Nightwing's POV
"Dude, you suck at dating!" Wally commented to him through the com.
"Yeah, who in their right mind would bring their girlfriend out for ANOTHER mission date?!" Artemis chimed in. Nightwing groaned while Percy laughed at his misfortune.
"Guy, it's fine. Lay off of him, besides I kinda enjoy this undercover mission." Percy said in her com. "Thank you," Nightwing said to his girlfriend.
Artemis snickered, "Looks like someone had a soft spot for you. You are one lucky guy, 'Wing." Nightwing smiled down at Percy's blushing face.
"I know."
The team was on a mission from Batman. They were to attend Queen Perdita of Latvia's gala as guests, but in secret, they were there to protect the queen from possible threats. *cough, Vertigo, *cough. So Wally, Artemis, Percy, and Nightwing went undercover as couples with fake names into the gala while Megan, Conner, and Kaldur posed as waiters and securities. Unfortunately, this mission occurred on the same day Nightwing and Percy were supposed to go on their first-ever NON-MISSION date.
"I promise you that after this mission we would go on a real date," Nightwing said to Percy.
She smiled at him, warming his heart. He leaned in for a kiss but was interrupted by Wally's voice through the com.
"Hey yo, Lovebirds! We are on a mission here, save it for later will ya?"
Percy frowned, her face tinted pink, " Were you spying on us, When you should be keeping an eye on Perdita?"
A smack was heard over the com and Artemis's voice came through, " He was, but then he got distracted. Don't worry I will keep an eye on him."
"I thought you and I were on the same team here! How can you betray me?"
"Do you have a death wish, West?"
Silence. Nightwing was having a hard time controlling his smirk, his girlfriend on the other hand had no shame of showing hers.
"Alright guys, let's get moving..."
The night passed on uneventfully. Dick was just about to call it a day when an explosion rocked the palace and scared the guests.
So much for being uneventful...
"Team?" Nightwing pressed his com, waiting for a clarification of what was going on as he and Percy ducked behind a wall to change into their suits.
"It's Vertigo! We need backup here! Do you have eyes on Perdita?!" Artemis shouted through the com. It seems that she and Wally were already engaged in battle.
"Superboy, Aqualad, and I will help you!" Megan said.
"Great, then we got Perdita," Percy said as she and Nightwing rushed off to help Perdita's bodyguards who were having a hard time fending off Vertigo's minions.
Percy's POV
"So how's the date so far?" Dick asked jokingly as he took down another man.
"It was..." She begins, swapping her leg under her component, knocking him off-balanced. "Full of action. In other words, I enjoyed it." She smiled at the bluebird before walking over to the frightened young queen.
"Are you okay, your majesty?" Perdita nodded and gave her a brave smile, though her eyes betrayed fear. Percy smiled back softly. She understands the queen's thought, being hunted just because of her status, she could relate to that. How many times had Percy been hunted just because she was a half-god? Once, twice, a hundred times each day.
Nightwing knelt next to the queen. "We are going to take you to a safe place, don't worry, he wouldn't get you."
Perdita nodded. Percy took the young royal's hand and led her towards the 'safe house'. When the League gained its popularity back in who-knows-when, safe houses were built in secret in almost every important building around the world. And there is one in the palace right now.
Riptide and Nightwing skillfully navigated through the huge palace. All around them fights were breaking out among the security and the bodyguards and as Percy would call them, evil-suit-wearing-minions-that-were-not-cute-at-all.
Another explosion sounded in the distance scaring the already terrified guests even more. Chaos was everywhere. Percy dragged the other two into a dark corner, avoiding a large mob that ran past them.
"Wing, they need help evacuating, we can't let the innocent get hurt." She whispered to her partner as she peeked over the edge scanning for signs of danger. "You go help the securities while I take the queen to the safe house."
"What?! No, I'm not leaving you, it's too dangerous!" Percy gave him a lopsided smile.
"Trust me, I have been in more dangerous situations than this. Go, I'll be fine." Nightwing glanced at her uncertainty but took off to do what he was told.
"Come on, we have to hurry," Percy said gently to the queen.
Two minutes into their run, Perdita seems to have recovered from her shock. "I don't mean to be rude," she began with a slight accent in her tone. "But I have never seen you before, are you a new hero? What is your name?"
Percy smiled but didn't stop running. "Well yes, I am new to the superhero business but I have been a hero in other means for a very long time. My name is Riptide."
Perdita nodded. "Thank you, Riptide, for you and your friends' help."
"Don't thank me yet, we still have to get you to safe-
"I don't think so, young hero." A voice snarled.
Percy stopped abruptly in her track and quickly pushed Perdita behind her. She glared at the man in front of her.
"Vertigo," she growled. The former-count flinched at the sight of her wolf-glare, but he quickly regained his courage and grinned wickedly at the demigoddess.
"How pathetic, a vigilante doing the work of a bodyguard." He spatted. Percy tightened her grip on the frightened queen. Something is not right, he is stalling.
"What are you up to, Vertigo." He chuckled.
"why to collect what is rightfully mine of course. And..." Vertigo snapped his fingers. A dozen men dressed in black ninja-type clothes dropped down from above, trapping Percy and Perdita in the middle. "To rid the earth of one more of its pests."
"Working with the league of Assasin, Vertigo?" Percy asked, noticing the men's uniform. "Not a smart choice."
Vertigo laughed without humor. "Oh, but it is smart enough to take you down. Believe me, young hero, I have seen you fight and I know all about your techniques, these guys here are enough to take you down and kill the girl."
Percy eyed each of the assassins with murder in her eyes. Know her techniques? Yeah, right. She has been trained to survive since she was twelve, the techniques so far she used for vigilante stuff is nowhere near her demigod techniques. She could take these guys and Vertigo down easily but can she protect Perdita too?
There is only one way to go. She hadn't done this in a long time...the last time she used this was when she was with the crews of the Argo II-No, don't think about them, she can't risk a blackout right now.
Percy lowered her voice just enough for Perdita to hear. "I haven't done this in a while but I'm gonna transfer you directly to the Safe House, don't freak out, and whatever you do, do not get out of the Safe House." From the corner of her eyes, Percy could see the confusion on Perdita's face but the girl nodded anyway.
Percy put her hand on Perdita's shoulder and concentrated, she felt the familiar tug in her stomach. Percy thought about the safe house and next to her, Perdita vanished in a burst of vapor.
She smirked at Vertigo's shook and confused face. "You know my techniques? No hon, THIS is my technique..." Without another word, she lugged at the still stunned men.
