Do or Die 4

The massive beast ate its fill before crouching and heading in the opposite direction to where I had established my home for the span of this test.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I rose stiffly, then stretched, choosing to head back in case I ran into another of those dangerous creatures.

"Hey, you!"

A male voice suddenly broke the silence. I was shocked because I hadn't even noticed that this boy was nearby.

Was this some innate skill?

After analyzing my options, I elected to avoid him, advancing on. What a naïve individual; didn't he watch movies?

I am confident those movies in the wild –

My thought was cut off with an overwhelming feeling that we were being stalked.

Annoyed, but distracted by an inkling of familiarity as I grabbed the stupid male, I didn't even bother to acknowledge him when, alarmed, he raised his voice.

"Hey, what are you holding me for?" he demanded.

For a bigger guy, he was quite a senseless one; he could not even detect danger nearby. A wulver appeared in the spot I had just snatched him from.

Scanning our surroundings, I took note of three smaller wulvers hiding among the vegetation and slightly further in the thick jungle area.

Dragging the annoying male, I ascended higher into the tree when he started screaming.

I rolled my eyes a bit, releasing him when I felt satisfied that we were sufficiently high enough. Please don't tell me this fool is afraid of heights?

For a maximum of three days, we remained there since he could not manoeuvre among the various branches; the fool either looked like he would pass out or fall from fright.

"Why me?" I questioned inwardly, but amused myself by interrogating him.

"How old are you?"

"Forty-five."

"Mmm."

"Since you seem to be female, you should be thirty-five."

"Mmm,"

"You aren't talkative, are you?"

I shook my head. It was still strange speaking kytrean, the ubiquitous language.

In my head, my dialect is still there. Teaching my mom was hard, but at least we spoke sensitive stuff without being detected.

Bajan dialect was to be a lovely language, but to many, it simply came off as vulgar.

"OK, I'll take that as a yes. My name is family name Cehn, first name Sie. Thank you for saving my life."

I nodded. I couldn't see his face behind the helmet but that was OK. Since his name was said "backwards" it seems he was of Asian descent. Either way, none of that mattered right now; they were the majority on this continent anyway so I've already become accustomed to them.

For the past three days, those wulvers were surrounding this tree, and it was annoying of course. If I leapt I'm sure I could get to the next tree before we had to head down among those onyx to get back in the forest but this boy... Ah, such dead weight.

Sigh, if I tossed him down so he could be bait I'd have a chance –  but I couldn't.

What if I had an extremely dire situation later?

Nope, I can't toss him as bait yet.

"As an elite, I am sure someone trained you. Follow me – do or die!"

I'm tired of being a sitting duck. Look at how many of those things are shot easily like that. What if a bird type appears? We'd be snatched up!

Crouching low, I leapt from branch to branch then tree to tree, ignoring the fact that he might not be able to follow.

Sigh, I still had a day of travelling to return to my old area.

"A break... Please... Let's... Just... Rest,"

I rolled my eyes at his panting outburst continuing on, albeit a bit slower.

What was to take one day, took two.

Damn dead weight!

"Ah, you are back!" something flew at me, I evaded it and watched as it flew past, the crocodile fang drawn in readiness. I turned to look at my "prey".

Oh, it was her. She now wore her helmet; now that was sensible. Her suit still looked presentable, but why?

Why did this girl, who looked around my age, have A-cup breasts while I was still flat?

I had those when I was twelve, in my last life. Even if I looked 'adorable' now, compared to before, why the hell – out of all damn things – do I still have a washboard-like chest!?

"You left so long, and I waited... I even learned to climb to survive from the others,"

She sobbed. I ignored her, turning to climb the tree,

"Wait! Don't leave me!" she sobbed. I avoided her and progressed upwards as high as I could before pulling out the first skin and starting to sew it together with a bit of spider silk.

I was grateful for the clothing and textiles class, even being a dancer. I'd sewn my own costumes, mended clothing that was damaged and even shoes.

Oh, how grateful I am for my past life!

That I paid attention, even though at the time I thought at that time it was not essential.

This was taught by the Wu family later since the mother here was... useless in that aspect.

I have to congratulate her, though. Everything from skinning, hunting and climbing were all her.

If she had not diligently taught me for six years how to survive on that island –

My gaze settled on the useless boy and girl below and scoffed.

I'd be just as useless as those two.
