Chapter Thirteen

Nalla's Point Of View

One year.

It's been exactly one year since Lyla adopted us.

For the most part, everything's all sunshine and lollipops.

She would play with us for hours. Sometimes, she even read books to us. Peter loved it when she did that.

Lyla brushed their fur every day. She stroked my feathers every day. The other's fur is so soft now. It's amazing really.

I think one of my favorite times is watching Lyla give everyone a bath.

Nick and Ben, they loved it. But there was water everywhere at the end of their joyful water fight.

Elisa, is Elisa. She swam in the water, held her breath under water. One time, the kid freakin dove into the water.

Was she jeopardizing our identity?

Yes.

Did we care?

No

Lyla was too oblivious to really be suspicious. The only person we have to worry about is Dylan.

Oh yeah, Dylan graduated his police training thing. The two had a party here. It was a fun time I'll have to admit.

Back to the baths.

Elisa enjoyed the baths.

Sammi on the other hand, not so much.

Lyla had to drag Sammi off the couch and into the bathroom. Then another fight started in there as well.

One time, Sammi accidentally scratched Lyla. She started to bleed.

She didn't fight her again after that day.

Jameson, Peter and I never went into the tub. The other two went in the sink. They liked it.

Normally, as humans, they can't exactly bathe in the sink. So they loved the new experience.

Alas, there are always shadows to every sunlight.

Lyla would come home in tears sometimes.

She would be in the bathroom for an hour at times.

We could hear her quiet cries from the outside.

We're trying to help her. We want to go to her work, see if that's the problem.

Is someone doing this to her?

Sammi gets so angry. We all do. Jameson and Ben get emotional. Nick and Elisa stay silent, and glare at the ground. Peter and I have talked, see if there was any way we could stop her sadness.

The only thing we can do is be there when she needs us.

And that is exactly we will do.
