Chapter Twenty Two

Lyla's Point Of View

I slammed the door behind me.

Jameson was waiting right by the door as always. He jumped in surprise, the loud noise startling.

I ignored him and stormed inside.

I ripped off my coat and threw it on the kitchen table as well as my purse, its contents falling out.

Jameson hopped besides me, brushing against my leg.

He wants me to pick him up

But, I ignored him once again.

I walked to my bed and got down on my hands and knees. Reaching my hand underneath the bed, feeling around for it.

Finally, my fingers found the cool metal.

I pulled it out and stood up.

Jameson's Point Of View

What's wrong with her? I almost got crushed by the door. She knows I'm always right there, waiting for her.

Lyla, she's in tears. Was it that jerkface Dylan? No. I know he cares for her. Maybe too much....

I followed her into the kitchen and watched her throw around her things in anger.

I rubbed my head against her leg, trying to get her to pick me up so I could comfort her.

But she walked away from me as if I didn't exist.

"Lyla?" I whimpered as she went up to her bedroom where all the others were at. I ran up after her, joining the other six.

"What happened?" Ben asked me as he stood beside me.

"I don't know. But she's really upset. She completely ignored me." I told Ben as the others began to gather around.

"Woah. She ignored you?" Peter gasped, in complete disbelief.

"She never ignores you." Sammi mumbled, glancing over at Lyla and widened her eyes.

"Oh my God!" Nalla shouted, taking flight.

We all turned our heads towards Lyla.

And we all screamed as well.

She has...

A gun.

3rd Person's Point Of View

Ben and Jameson burst into tears.

Elisa kept repeating no, over and over.

Sammi and Peter's breathing became uneven.

Nick stood frozen in place, in complete shock.

"Lyla." Nalla whispered, slowly lowering her height in flight.

Lyla loaded the gun and held it out in front of her, and pointed it at her.

Jameson cried out in despair.

Nick looked back and forth between the gun and Lyla.

Then he lunged at the gun, trying to knock it out of her hands.

But, Lyla saw it coming.

She moved the gun from Nick's reach. He was so close, a little further, he would've gotten it.

Nick landed and froze once again.

Everyone stopped moving and all sound ceased.

The boys all stared in disbelief as tears welled up in Nick's eyes.

Lyla had pointed the gun at Nick. Tears poured down her face as her hand shook as she held the gun. "No." Lyla's voice cracked. "No."

Nick whimpered.

"She's unstable. Completely unstable." Nalla gasped, flying onto Nick's head in an attempt to reassure the shaking dog.

"It happened." Sammi spoke, deathly afraid. "She finally broke."

Lyla took a deep breath and aimed the gun a t herself once more.

"We have to do something!" Peter shrieked, looking up at everyone.

"Transform." Elisa whispered

"We have to transform into humans." Ben continued, his eyes lighting up with hope.

"But we can't. It, it isn't safe." Sammi replied. "There has to be another way." Sammi swallowed hard. "D-Dylan or, or-"

"Another way?!" Nalla yelled. "This is a life or death situation! She saved us, now we have to save her!"

Everyone nodded, doubt dissolving from their minds. They could do this

They had to.

Then, they transformed.

"Stop!" Peter shouted, lunging towards Lyla, his arms outstretched.

Lyla yelped in surprise.

And a gun shot echoed through the apartment.
