Chapter 23: Another Disturbing Revelation

The mer-siblings led us into a large room containing two couches and a couple chairs.

"You might want to sit down. What we're going to tell you might shock you," Uo said, also looking serious.

The girls and I sat down, extremely worried about what they were going to tell us.

"A few months ago, our home planet, Kaiyo, was invaded by mysterious land dwellers. These invaders somehow created land on our planet, causing our atmosphere to become polluted by dirt. Because of this, the king ordered an evacuation of our planet. We eventually came across this planet and the king proclaimed it was uninhabited so we covered it with water. I never would have thought that there were people living here!" Nami explained, sobbing.

"But it's true, Nami. Though they were not what any of us would consider people, intelligent life lived here, in the lava flows and volcanoes. They were driven away from their planet, just like you and your people," I said, trying to comfort Nami, but also explain things.

"Something doesn't add up," Uo suddenly said, looking concerned.

"What do you mean?" Yuri asked curiously.

"The king said that the scanners didn't pick up any sign of intelligent life. Why would he say that if there was intelligent life here before us? The king would never lie to us about something! He's known for his honesty! Something's not right!" he exclaimed, getting up.

"Where are you going, Uo?" Nami asked, still crying.

"To see the king. I want to know why he lied to us. He must have a good reason! I refuse to believe he purposefully drove people off their own planet!" he declared before swimming out of the room.

The rest of us stayed where we were. We didn't know what to do. I guess it was brain lock. Finally, Mari snapped us out of it.

"Are we gonna go after him or are we just gonna sit here?"
