Chapter 43: Unanswered Questions

As we journeyed on, I decided to ask the girls what their opinion was of the voice I heard while wielding Kojomaru.

"So you're saying that when you closed your eyes as you were readying yourself to use Kojomaru, you heard a voice? Did it say anything that stood out to you?" Touwa asked, her interest piqued.

"The only thing the voice said was, 'You are just like Sa.' Do you think Sa was the legendary heroine's name?"

"Hmm… That's very interesting. I find it strange that no one seems to actually know anything about the legendary heroine besides her gender, sword, and feats. Can you think of anyone from your family that has hero-like qualities?"

"No! That's the thing that bothers me. If I really am the legendary heroine's descendant, how come I come from a family of farmers? It doesn't make any sense!"

"Don't worry about it, Hana. I'm sure you'll learn the truth in time."

"I guess so."

The more I thought about it, the more I realized I knew very little about my family's ancestry. I knew that my father died when I was little due to a farming accident, but I knew nothing else about the rest of my family. I had always assumed my ancestors were farmers from rural Japan, but now I'm beginning to think otherwise. For starters, I was able to summon all of the girls at once when they were seeds, a feat that should have been impossible for anyone, human or not.

"Are you ok, Hana? You look kind of sick," Yuri asked, giving me a concerned look.

"I-I'm fine. I've just realized I might not be who I think I am."

"What do you mean?! You're Hana Kojo, the bravest human I've ever met!" Akino chimed in, walking backwards in front of me.

"I don't mean that. I mean that maybe my ancestors weren't actually farmers like I thought they were. Didn't you guys find it strange when I could free all of you at once from your seeds?"

"Well, yes. We did actually. We finally decided that it was because you cared so much for nature and for others," Touwa replied, somewhat startled by my question.

"O-oh. I guess that would make sense. Sorry. I'm just extremely confused by all of this. I mean, I'm no hero. I'm just an ordinary girl.

"Are you still spouting that **** (poop)?! Look around you! Does an ordinary girl go to other planets and save them from disaster? Name one! I'll wait," Mari exclaimed, still irritable.

"No, but…"

"But what?! Just face the facts already! You are special!" Mari suddenly blushed after saying that so she added, "Don't go getting a big head, alright?"

"You're right. I'm not normal. Thanks for helping me realize that, Mari."

"Y-you don't need to thank me, stupid! You really are stupid, aren't you?!"

"Oh c'mon, Mari. We all know you love Hana so quit with the tsundere act!" Yuri teased.

"W-what are you talking about, B-Bubblehead?! H-how could I love someone so stupid?!"

"Mari," I said, turning back toward the blushing redhead.

"W-what do you want?!"

"I really do appreciate everything you have done to help me. Without you, I probably would be dead right now, so… Thank you!" I smiled, hoping to calm Mari down.

After I said that, Mari turned even redder (if that's even possible) and collapsed. Sighing, Yuri picked her up and carried her on her back until she recovered.
