THE SOONER SHE GOT IT DONE, SOONER SHE WOULD BE ALRIGHT!

The car stopped in a place that she had never been to before.

Throughout the journey, not even one single word was exchanged between them as they traveled through the city chaos.

By the time they had reached, whatever this place was called to be, it was already six in the evening.

He sprinted out of the car and so she followed his lead. She came around and stood beside him.

Her gaze followed his and looked at the vast empty property, a stranded mansion laid in the between, protected by the wired fencing.

"The next sunrise, this property would seize to be a Cardoso possession."

She looked up at him. Even though his eyes were still trained on the front. So it had to be the Heartland Property, which the sibling must have been arguing about. She assumed.

"Where we are standing right now..."

He parted his gaze from the view to lock with her eyes. She did not look away.

"...where my father had told me how they came to meet and fell in love."

When he let out the word 'Love', it seemed so weird. She could not perceive him to be a man who was capable of understanding what 'love' was or is. From so far, of what she had come to know about him, at least...

But then was she capable of love either?

"They got married in the church, on the other side of this street. Bought this mansion and conceived me here."

A small smile shone on his face as he reminisced about those golden memories.

His parent's love story had a profound impact on him. She could be sure about that piece of information.

"They had to move to look after my grandfather, the present Cardoso residency...where he met Semina Inna, a servant."

He did not have to tell more about it, she could connect the bits to know where the story led and how it must have had its tragic ending.

"Now Regi wants to sell this property."

He looked down, disappointed about his sister's actions. She had given him an ultimatum till midnight and if he did not accept it, she could as well go to the point of ending their relationship, when she was the only family he had left.

"Talk with her..."

It made him look at her. The first words she spoke to him after he had held a gun against her.

"You think I have not?"

"Let her know what this means to you...more than a family heirloom."

Alister stressed. He listened without stopping her. A man, who found it so hard to listen but the moment was so, that he could do better than talking was listening.

"Regi hates our father...she hates me too."

He passed out a small laugh and she could tell that, he had already given up on the property.

"If you think you have already tried harder, but if not, then do not let it go just yet."

She concluded. He did not say another word out next, and the silence followed, filling in the gaps between them and the surroundings.

'Try harder!'

She talked about that and to see if there still was one way. That he could think about and seemed like a possibility.

He looked over at her. She was too consumed with breathing in the view before her.

"Although..."

He immediately flipped his eyes off of her, when she began. The feeling of being caught in the act had taken over him.

And the feeling of being watched without knowing had made her cheeks warm on their own.

"Why bring me here?"

She composed herself before asking. There was no need to let a stranger know about something so intimate to the family.

The question took him off guard. Something he had not thought about himself. Why he did do what he had done?

"That is for me to ponder about and nothing that you must care of. "

His answer was kept short and simple. She nodded her head, looking away, feeling stupid that she even bought it up.

"Let's get going then..."

He proposed and walked away, without waiting for her. She followed him anyway and got inside the vehicle on standby for them.

"Make a drop at Miss Flow's home."

He told the driver as they were back in the City Road. It made her stare at him. She always had to fight with words to make him drop her back at her place and then try to take her with him.

Did someone do voodoo to him for willingly dropping her back to her place this evening?

But then she was reminded of Blake's words. The more time she took, the more danger she put her family in.

"No..."

It made him narrow his eyes at her.

"Lucas, drive straight to Mr. Cardoso's place."

"Yes, Miss!"

He responded and throughout, Ryan's scrutinizing gazes did not leave her face. She knew how strange it must have sounded for her to say that.

Every evening, she would be the one hell-bent on being dropped off at her place and he would be pulling the rope to the other side, at last giving up.

"Courtney is not home...and I...uhh...I hate being home alone."

She lied. She needed to spurt out an excuse at least to make for her sudden change of mind.

She knew what kind of man, she was sharing the car with. Not just any man who would not care about someone suddenly wanting to follow him back home.

"I...uhh..."

He made her so nervous with his eyes all over her when it was something she did so often working...lying must not be so hard for her.

"Lucas to my penthouse then."

"Yes, Mr. Cardoso."

Lucas took a different turn, changing the route from the original route to his penthouse.

She took a deep breath, that he had bought yet another lie of hers, and laid her head back on the seat, even though she felt his stares from time to time.

The sooner she got it done, the sooner it was over, the sooner everything would be fine...the sooner she would be alright.
