Their First Day

It's the first day of high school and little did they know things were going to happen to them.

-Morning, Twins' House-

"It's your first day of high school! Whooo!!!" Their dad screams with excitement and opens Caleb's and Beca's bedrooms which are side by side.

Caleb tries to sit while collecting his souls and rubbing on his eyes. "Yeah... First day of high school..." Caleb answers but not as excited as yesterday because, as a normal human being, he just got up.

"I am so ready for cheer's try out!" Beca, who's very enthusiastic, tumbles from her room to high five his thrilled dad.

"Now, talk about energy!" His dad shouts to her.

"Take a bath and get down already, you two! Breakfast is ready!" Their mother shouts with a happy tone from the first floor.

-Felix's House-

"You up son? The First day of high school, always exciting! Don't forget you gon' be tryin' out for the basketball team, okay?" Felix's dad wakes him up by turning on his bedroom's light.

"Urgh, I hate meeting new people," Felix complains and rolls into his bed again.

Felix is not as socially active as the rest of them. He hates meeting new people. He just hates people in general except the five of them. The first day of high school is not very exciting for Felix, but unfortunately, he doesn't have a choice.

Joanne's House

"Morning, my daughter! Are you ready to get more A's this semester?" Joanne's dad greets her in the kitchen.

"Oh, you're making an omelet?" her mother shows up while looking at the breakfast that Joanne made.

"Morning! I'm afraid I don't have enough time to prepare a fancy breakfast to you guys," Joanne says serenely to her parents.

Kai's House

"I'm officially a senior in Seaside High now!" Kai's brother, Ethan, slides into Kai's room.

"I can't believe I'm a high schooler now!" Kai also shouts while looking at the mirror with excitement.

"Don't forget that you're driving your brother and Val to school today, Ethan." Their mother says delicately while putting a pat on Ethan's shoulder.

Val's House

"Are you ready, Val? Don't be late on your first day of High School!" Val's dad, William Gilbert, shouts from the kitchen, trying to reach her on the second floor.

"I'm coming down! Is breakfast ready, yet?" Val also shouts to her dad.

Then, the bell suddenly rings. It seems like Kai and his brother, Ethan, have come.

Val walks down to open the door and Kai and Ethan are there smiling.

"Are you ready for the first day of high school, Val?" Ethan asks her softly with a smile that makes him very popular.

Kai, who sees them smiling at each other, rolls his eye and makes his way through the door.

"Good Morning, William!" Kai greets Val's dad with his first name while giggling.

Yes, they are that close. They have known each other since Kai and Val were in the second grade in elementary school.

"Have you guys had your breakfasts?" Val's dad asks them both.

"Yes, mother cooked for us. Thank you for asking, Sir" Ethan answers him formally.

"Well, it seems like she's got more free time these days, huh," Val's dad responds to tease their mother, who is also his friend.

-Bus Stop-

Joanne, Felix, and some other kids are waiting at the bus stop.

Joanne is sitting there calmly and patiently while Felix is standing while shaking his legs from getting nervous.

"Relax! it's not gonna be that bad!" Joanne tries to comfort him.

"Oh yeah? Well, don't blame me! Blame them who describes high school shitty in tv shows!" Felix answers with a shaky tone.

Seconds after that, the bus arrives with a bunch of kids in it. "Let's go, bro!" Joanne grabs Felix by the shoulder merrily.

They get into the bus trying to scan which seat is empty. They walk into almost the end of the bus and stop there.

"Should we sit here?" Joanne asks Felix.

"No, don't sit there. It stinks... just sit here," a brunette haired boy suddenly talks while pointing at the seat on his back.

Joanne looks at him for a moment to see who just talked to them.

"Oh, thank you," Joanne responds to him politely.

"What a nice way to start high school!" Felix says sarcastically while getting slightly anxious.

"Hey, Felix, do you know who that was?" Joanne asks him while trying to get a view on that boy who's sitting in front of her.

"I just got here, Jo," Felix answers sarcastically while squinching his eyes.

"Well, I just thought you might know..." Joanne answers.

"I don't know, lemme guess... Hmm, Mr. who makes you fall in love at first sight?" Felix teases her.

"Hey! It's not like that! There's no way such a thing exists anyway! He's just... nice, you know..." Joanne complains.

"If you're that curious, just ask him!" Felix encourages her.

"W-what? N-no way!" Joanne rejects his suggestions nervously.

"Well, at least you seem attracted to him," Felix says with a little bit of giggling.

Joanne just stares at him with a disbelieving look because she thinks it's ridiculous to like someone at first sight.

-Seaside High-

"Don't get nervous, honey! You'll ace your try out!" Twins' dad comforted Beca.

"Huft, alright! I'm fired up and ready to be a high schooler!" Beca shouts passionately.

"High school ain't about being in a club only... It's also about studying, dude!" Kai nags, and also teases his twin sister with a disgusted look.

Beca just glares at him for making that look.

"Well, you both'll do great, so I'm leaving 'right!" Twins' dad says cheerfully while waving away to them.

He then drives away and leaves the two of them together.

"Well, ready to write some new chapter in our lives, sis?" Caleb grabs Beca's shoulder with a wide smile on his face and they both enter the building.

-Hallway-

"Loosen up a bit, dude!" Val grabs Felix's shoulder because he seems so tense on his first day of high school.

"You know I hate meeting new people... I get weird, freaky, cold, and stupid on the first meeting..." Felix utters while looking sulky.

"Now, come on! Don't wear that sulky expression from the first day! Smile and things will get better!" Caleb motivates him with a bright smile on his face.

Felix just rolls his eyes because he is so not ready on going to high school and facing new changes.

The bell rings to remind them of the first period. They all got into their classes and start the first day of studying at high school with different feelings.

-After School, Seaside High-

"Are you ready for the tryout, Caleb?" Joanne asks him with a little bit of excitement in her tone.

"Oh, I am so ready to rock it, baby!" Caleb, thrilled, shrieks in delight while spreading his arms.

Caleb's answer puts Joanne to laugh. His 'baby' can seriously make her giggle.

"Oh, it's them!" Joanne points the rest of them in front of Kai's locker.

Both Joanne and Caleb go to them.

"If you pass the tryout, you'll be cheerin' for us, Beca!" Kai says to her with thrills in his tone.

"Oh, I am so gonna ace this! You three better do good later!" Beca roars from getting fired up.

"How about you, Val? The tryout for the band is also today, right?" Felix asks her.

"Yeah, we're not worried though. Who can beat your guitar and singing skill, seriously, Val?" Kai praises her.

"You are gonna take the vocal and guitar position easily that we don't even need to encourage you!" Caleb also adds.

They just nod while smiling because they all agree Val is just going to be superb in today's tryout.

"What about you, Jo? Is it just gon' be some paper test?" Beca asks Joanne about her science club.

"Yeah, but in the end, everybody will probably pass so I'm not worried even the slightest," Joanne answers calmly.

"Alright then, let's ace today, baby!" Caleb encourages everyone while throwing his fist on the air. They all just crack up from his 'baby' again.

-Science Club Test-

Joanne enters the room confidently with her bag. She sits in the front and takes her books out of her bag.

However, a whisper starts to appear saying, "urgh, another Asian with probably straight A's that will take our place here."

"Oh my god, yes... Can't they just make a club just for Asians? Urgh, it's so annoying..." someone also whispers to express his disturbed feeling toward Joanne, who's Asian.

She hears them gossiping for a while and starts to open her book, trying not to let them get to her.

As an Asian living there, it's always been like that for Joanne. People have always taken her intelligence for granted as if her race has anything to do with it. There are probably only two things that keep her running for straight A's.

The first one is her family, especially her strict parents who always pressure her to get straight A's.

Yes, a very typical "Asian thing".

The second thing is, probably annoying for others, her curiosity. She has always been interested in studying, not like Beca who thinks that doing physical things is so much better than studying.

Those whispers are probably affecting her a little bit. Although those stereotypes have been thrown to her for years, she is still not used to it yet.

Joanne, who starts to feel insecure about herself, just reads her book more focused than ever to block their whispers about her.

-The Band Tryout-

Val enters the school theater passionately. She walks confidently with her head up. She sits with the other students who are also for the tryout. The tryout is being held in the theater, even though the practice is not usually there.

"Woah, she's so pretty. What do you think she'll do?" a girl whispers about Val.

"I don't know... sleep with one of the members? Hahaha... she'll probably gonna use her face or body to get in, though..." a guy also whispers.

Val who hears them just sit straight as if they weren't there. She would be lying if she said that those words do not bother her.

However, those rude comments just make her more determined to show what she can do.

"So, the positions that we're looking for are vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and drummer. So, if you all wanna be one of us, then show us what you got," the keyboardist, Mike, says to all of them.

The participants, one by one, go up to the stage to do what they can. Some sang, some played guitar, some hit the drum. Some were bad and some were good.

However, competition is not a new thing for Val.

Val, who's up next, is so fired up that she doesn't tremble even for a second. She goes up to the stage confidently with her guitar.

"Ooh, a little blond girl holding a guitar while dressing as half gothic princess... Interesting..." Peter, the guitarist, mumbles.

Val starts to play Canon in D by Pachelbel, but with a new arrangement that she made with some vocals in it where she can sing. She plays her guitar and starts to sing with her husky, but sweet voice.

Even though she only plays the guitar, her performance shines brighter than the previous ones. Smiles start to appear on both Peter's and Mike's faces.

Her singing skill, guitar skills, facial expression, and attitude show how comfortable she is performing on stage. Everybody can see how she enjoys it so much that it's contagious to the audience.

The members give her a standing ovation with big smiles. Well, not everyone can pull off a Canon in D live version well. The tryout eventually ends with the result coming out days ahead.

Everyone is out of the theater and Val walks straight up to the bathroom. She is just walking to reach the girls' bathroom when she hears someone mentioning her.

"That blond girl is never gon' make it to the team, at least as a guitarist..." a guy says.

"Well duh! No one wants to watch a little girl playing guitar with her weak hands!" another guy mocks her.

"Heheh, you're right. It would be so annoying if she makes it to the list..." the previous one says.

Val, who was hearing the whole thing, starts to walk fast to the girl's bathroom with anger inside of her.

The anger starts to burn and annoys the hell out of her.

"Argh, ta' hell with those people! I am so sick of this!" she yells.

She washes her face to cool herself down.

"It's so annoying every time I do shit, everybody just has to correlate my gender with it," she whispers while looking at her reflection on the mirror.

"I thought the first day of high school would be great. What is this shitty experience?" she mutters with irritation and despair in her eyes.

At that moment, she recalls the faces of the others.

She wonders for a bit.

Do the others also experience similar things as she does? Do the others also face some rude comments that can break their confidence?

Do they feel suffocated on this first-day or does this only happen to Val? Those things keep getting into her head right now.

It seems that in moments like this, she really needs their comfort to heal.

However, little did she know that someone was siding with her. Before she could hear the person, she already decided to walk straight with fury inside her.

"Bro, you ain't jealous, right?" Felix teases Kai.

"Tch! J-jealous? Why would I?!" Kai scoffs while looking at the other way.
