- Flashback ended, Caleb's room -
"So, what?! Are you guys a thing now??? Stacy! You're the one who bitched about how we're not supposed to have sexual relationships with the basketball and football members! And to do it with my twin brother??? What the hell?!" Beca screams with shock and fury.
Caleb meets Stacy's eyes. But she looks away, feeling ashamed.
"I'm sorry, but it's never gonna happen again, Beca. Trust me," Stacy says calmly, trying to gain control of the situation.
Beca scoffs and rolls her eyes out of bewilderment. She looks at Caleb as if she's telling him how shocked, angry, and disappointed she is.
Caleb's eyes then move on to Stacy with confused looks.
He's feeling guilty toward his twin sister for fooling around with the captain, who's been throwing shits at her for dating a basketball member. And now, Stacy's doing the same thing with Beca's twin brother. How sick is that?
Caleb knows it's wrong, that he's supposed to hate Stacy. But as he gets sober, he wonders if Stacy could stay. It's confusing for him.
As his thoughts wander around, Stacy's voice pulls him back to reality.
"This was a mistake. This shouldn't have happened," she says while putting her clothes on, without even looking at him.
Caleb tries to smile while struggling to find the right words. He scoffs and says, "So, what? This is it? You don't even wanna try to work this out?"
"This is nothing. We hooked up twice. We didn't even connect. There was no talking. What thing are you even referring to?" Stacy asks him.
Feeling played, Caleb looks away.
He's not used to being on the played end of a love game.
Out of words, he lies down on his bed while covering his eyes.
"Just- go," he says coldly.
- Meanwhile, Val's living room -
It's raining that morning. Val and Kai have a routine every time it rains. They'd wear sweaters, make hot chocolates and watch movies in Val's living room. Sometimes the others would join them, and sometimes it's just the two of them.
Today, it's the latter.
"Okay, what do you wanna watch?" Val asks Kai while sitting down beside him.
"Hmm... I was thinking about some Marvels?" he says while holding the remote.
Val rolls her eyes and says, "Oh, come on! I don't wanna watch men get feral because of vengeance or spite on a rainy day."
"Okay, what do you wanna watch then?" he asks her while chuckling.
She smiles while putting the finger on her lips. "What about Glee? I could watch some drama now," she says with a cheeky attitude.
"Oh, come on! We listen to Glee all the time! Why do we have to rewatch it, too???" he complains.
She looks at him and says, "Exactly! We listen to it all the time! We have to rewatch it too! Sometimes I forget what they're fighting about in a song!"
"Urgh, can't we watch something else?" Kai insists.
She looks at the remote and grabs it fast, smiling like a brat.
She mocks him with the remote, but Kai is quick. He tries to grab her tiny wrist that is holding the remote. Being too focused on her wrist to get the remote back, he stumbles over something near the sofa.
He lost his balance and almost fell on top of her had he not grabbed the sofa. But it's too late to save them from the gap and the silence.
They're only inches away.
He looks at Val. His eyes analyze her face, from her eyes, nose, and lips. He stares down at her lips for a few seconds and looks up into her eyes again. But his eyes turned different now. They're not the innocent look that he usually has on him.
His eyes are filled with so many things now, the confusion of a best friend, the questions on whether she feels the same way, and the desire to have the taste of her lips.
And he's not alone.
Val is doing the same thing. She's switching between looking into his eyes and his lips.
His brown eyes are looking into hers. She looks at the corner of his eyebrows, bangs covering his eyes, tall nose, and rosy lips.
She's always thought Kai was good-looking but never really saw how gorgeous he was.
His sudden movement surprises her.
He lowers his body.
Their bodies get closer.
They can feel each other's breathlessness. They are close at this point, close enough to hear each other's fast heartbeats and smell each other's scents.
He tried hard to hold on, not fall on top of her, and not give into temptation.
But she gave in first.
She moves her hand from his shoulder to his collar.
She was about to pull him closer, but he pulled away. As he tries to sit up, he grins while rubbing her head and messing with her hair.
She flinches as if there is electricity running through her body.
Blood rushes into her cheeks.
Val tries hard to hide her blush at his sudden touch on her head.
It's not that Val's not used to touching Kai, but she's not used to Kai being the one in control. Usually, Val's the more dominant, from deciding on becoming the bigger spoon.
But now, the table's starting to turn around. Kai starts to act, making her feel things new for her, new feelings she's unfamiliar with.
It wasn't even a kiss yet, but the thought of it could make her knees weak.
As Val is still trying to grasp what just happened, Kai calmly searches for Glee on the TV, the show Val wanted to watch.
Then, the bell rings.
Still in her thoughts, the bell rings again to pull Val back further to reality.
"Oh, y-yeah! The door!" Val stutters while standing up unstably.
Kai only giggles while still staring at the TV.
Val walks to her doorstep, trying to act as usual, as if she didn't hope a kiss was about to happen between them.
It's Beca, standing with rage in her eyes.
"You cannot believe what I just saw!!!" she screams dramatically.
Feeling relieved that Beca is deep in her problems, Val lets out a breath.
"Okay, get in, honey," she says calmly to Beca.
Val is not ready to tell her what just happened or what has been happening with Kai and her, or how she feels about it. She's not even prepared to sort out her emotions yet.
All these years, Kai has been her best friend. But these days, to Val, he's more than that.
Val's living room with Beca -
Feeling baffled, Beca walks around the living room while folding her arms angrily.
"YOU CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I SAW IN CALEB'S ROOM TODAY!!!" Beca shouts frantically while shaking her head to express her shock, rage, and disgust.
Val and Kai look at each other with confusion.
"I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START!!!" Beca shouts again while simultaneously trying to get the picture of her twin brother and Stacy on top of each other out of her head.
Val tries to calm her down and softly says, "Okay, why don't you start from what you saw today, babe?"
"I saw Stacy and Caleb doing it in his room! MY twin brother and MY cheer captain were getting down on each other's bodies!!!" Beca shouts.
Val and Kai look at each other with confusion again.
"Wait, isn't that against the rules?" Val asks to clarify.
"YES, THAT'S THE THING!" Beca answers, trying to get them on her side.
Val squints her eyes, "I don't get why you're this angry, though. Isn't it normal for Caleb to fool around with a girl and break some rules?"
Kai and Beca look at each other, hiding their guilt.
Beca hasn't told Val about Nicholas yet. But she told Kai about it from the night they were stuck on the basketball court. Yes, they are finding a way how not to make Val feel betrayed.
They couldn't find a way to make it seem like they didn't exclude her. So, Beca told her about Nicholas.
"WHAT?! You have a secret boyfriend, and you didn't tell me?!" feeling betrayed, Val shouts.
Beca panics and tries to negotiate, "I'm sorry! But we did promise to keep it a secret! I did tell Kai, though!"
"W- THAT'S WORSE! You told Kai, but not me?!" Val complains to Beca while hitting her arms.
Val gasps and screams to Kai," You knew, and you didn't tell me?!"
Feeling unfairly dragged, Kai whispered to Beca, "Well, I told you that in confidence!"
Beca just smiles apologetically for throwing him under the bus.
"I'm sorry, but you guys are totally missing the point! Stacy gave me shits for dating Nicholas, but now SHE'S the one fucking MY twin brother, a member of the freaking basketball team!" Beca screams out of frustration.
"But, isn't this a good thing, though? It's a loophole. You have all the leverage to blackmail her!" Val says in delight, thinking about ways to make Stacy pays.
Beca gasps happily now that ideas pop into her head, "OMG VAL, YOU'RE A GENIUS!!!"
Kai tries to neutralize Val's extreme advice. "Okay, blackmail is a STRONG and BAD term to word this," He says while glaring at Val, who's sulking.
"Think about it as negotiation, bec. Maybe she can change the rules, and you can date Nicholas peacefully," he adds.
Beca smiles and stands up firmly. "Okay, I'm gonna go and see Caleb now!"
She leaves the house.
"You know it's gonna be ironic, yet funny, if she's gonna break up with Nicholas after all the things she went and will go through for this," Val says while folding her arms.
Kai squints his eyes to disagree, "Well, you know how much of a hopeless romantic Beca is. When she loves, she goes full Beca."
"That's the thing! She will get hurt in the end if we don't hold her back," Val, feeling protective of Beca, refutes him.
Kai scoffs and rolls his eyes.
"Val, why do you gotta be so negative and anti-romantic all the time?" Kai asks while looking into her eyes.
Her eyes shake for a bit, and she looks away. "I'm not being negative! I'm just- I don't wanna see her cry over a boy again."
"Well, she is for sure going to cry over Nicholas, and it's your job to be there for her whether you like it or not," Kai says.
Realizing he's right, Val rolls her eyes and leans on his shoulder. "I know... I'm sorry for bumming this afternoon out."
