Chapter 21: Rest

I woke up, it all seemed like a dream to me, I was trying my best not to forget it. To be fair though, it was a dream, or at least it always seemed like it was. Mint got up and was smiling all excited. But for once I thought of my life all before all of this.

I truly did miss it, I would have been safe, and I would not be starving some of these days or having to go through these long endless walks. I never knew when we would meet the end of our destination.

I missed Tristan, life was simpler back then, I even though I always did my best to not make it simple, Tristan always had a way of relaxing me. I had been stressed for a long time now, I wondered if I got stressed to much like Tristan said, my hair would grow grey.

I missed him so much, I felt bad thinking about him, I loved Mint, but times were easier back then. I walked up to Mint and rubbed my cheek against her face. She began to purr, it made me feel a lot better just hearing that from her.

Stoneteller was just sitting there, looking at the ceiling silently, I had no idea what kind of thoughts went through that cats mind. He must talk to the dead non stop, he must be alone all of the time. I appreciated the help that they star cats gave me but I would not want to live with them, at least not yet.

"Alright you too, I hope you know your end goal. I will let you stay for as long as you want. But I think you should reach you end point as soon as possible." Stoneteller said to me. I nodded to him thankfully, he was a good cat, he said he was not leader but it kind of seemed like he was. I could tell the cats around there seemed to be drawn to him.

I looked at Mint, she was still hobbling around and I had forgotten that she had began bleeding again early. I looked at Stoneteller, I did not know if he was their medicine cat, like the star cats liked to call it or not. But she did need some help, I suppose we would spend the next few days here.

I guess I might have made her begin following me on the journey a little bit too early. I had to remember that she was still young and that she had been badly injured to the point, if Jayfeather had not have helped me she would have most certainly died.

I almost wanted to blame the star cats for it, they said they knew something was going to happen, but they had also said they did not know what it was going to be. I was just happy to have her still here with me and I felt slightly bad for rushing her.

"Stoneteller, do you have any medicine for Mint, she was badly hurt by a badger attack." I said to him. He stood there for a few seconds looking at the ground and then he nodded to me.

"Yes... We do not have those around here, but I have a few things that should help her get better." He said to me, he then walked over to Mint and then began checking her through thuroly.

"Yes we have cobwebs and a few other things to stop the bleeding and in case we have any poisoning." He said to me. I nodded making a mental note in my mind. Squirrelflight had told me, at first I must teach a medicine cat until they believe in the star cats.

I found it a bit strange, I believed there was a life after death but I never thought of it as the clans, and what happened to cats that weren't in clans after they die? I had only seen Tristan once and that was the first day I had seen any of the cats. I had not seen of him ever since then.

We began walking through the tunnel to Stonetellers normal cave. Once we were in there he stopped us and then he walked to the other side of the room. He began sorting through some things that looked like herbs, I was tempted to ask for help to ask which ones were which but I already noticed through a lot of them.

Jayfeather had taught me only the important ones as he had said to me. There were a few that I noticed that I had not seen before however. I was just too tired to ask about them, and Stoneteller always gave a long description when he was telling us about something.

He turned around and then walked over to where we were standing at, I was licking Mints fur making sure that she was okay, she was purring the whole time, I was so glad that she was appreciative of my love. I had so much love for her, I would choose her over the clans if it came to that.

When she almost died I was tempted to just head back and go and live with her in her twolegs nest. But in the end I decided that it would be best to continue on with my journey. I knew the star cats were looking up to me and I did not want to let them down.

Stoneteller began putting the cobwebs down on her and I got off of where I was on her. He then put something on that I had not seen before. I was tempted to ask, maybe it was a bad decision of me but I decided not too. I could tell it was late, there was no light pouring in from the other side of the cave and everything nearby was silent.

"Thank you Stoneteller..." Mint said to him. He nodded and began purring. He lowered his head and then began walking towards the exit of the room, nodding for us to follow him.

"Now... Go get some rest.
