Distance

CHAPTER VII: Distance

"What?" I muttered to myself.

I turned to the boys to ask if they know something about it but then, I saw worry in their eyes.

"Guys, don't give me that look." I tried to laugh but it didn't work.

"Little Blaire, we know you are not okay. Stop acting like you are when you are not." Maddox softly said.

I know I'm not okay. I'm just trying to be. I don't want them to see me weak. I don't need sympathy.

"Yes, I am." I tried to smile at them even though I know it wouldn't work. They just know me too well from head to toe. I can't hide anything from them.

"Okay, if you say so." Stephen smiled back at me.

I know that they do not believe that I'm okay. Maybe he just have said that to make me feel better.

"Then, shall we go to our headquarters?" Damon said while grinning.

"Okay!" we all shouted.

___

While walking along the corridor, I heard the students whispering to each other. Maybe they are talking about me.

Cameron said no one would know about our date. That it is nearly impossible for students to spot us there because the garden was not too crowded and is not popular among teenagers. Also, his car was heavily tinted. So how come?

I swear, the girls are giving me death glares. Damn. I should really distance myself from Cameron. I am not liking all the attention they're giving to me.

"Can you please get back to your business? You're making us uncomfortable with your stares." I was shocked when Aspen suddenly shouted. I can say that he is so irritated because of his facial expression right now.

"Girl, she got them whipped. What a slut." I heard a girl from my side said that. I was about to walk past her when someone grabbed her arm and pushed her back to the wall. When I tilted my head to see who did that, my eyes widen with surprise when I saw Tyler fuming mad.

"That's it I've heard enough. My sister is not a fvcking slut! You understand that?" he shouted at the girl.

I ran to him when I saw his fist balled up in mid-air and was ready to punch someone. I quickly held his hand to calm him down. Luckily, it worked.

"Hey, chill Tyler. I'm not hurt. See? I am fine." I smiled at him with assurance but it doesn't change the rage he's feeling. Not even a little bit.

"Woman, if I heard you talking about my sister again, you will receive a punishment." He then glared at the girl who is shaking because of fear.

Who wouldn't fear Ty right? He has a well-built body and is very tall. His voice is also scary when mad.

"And to all those who will talk bad about Blaire, I promise, I would make your lives miserable." He then walked out of the corridor.

"Damn. That was one hell of a brother." Stephen said amused.

"He's so cool when he slammed the girl onto the wall." Aspen said.

"You think it's cool when in fact, he hurt a girl who is helpless when it comes to fighting?" I hissed at them.

"She deserved it though." Damon smirked. They all laughed but I didn't even know what they're laughing at.

We are now here in front of our headquarters' door. My forehead creased when I noticed that they are not opening it.

"Where's the key?" I asked them but they all just pointed fingers to one another.

Gosh. These guys are really a pain in the ass. Thankfully, I have my key with me so I had no other choice but to open it. We each have a duplicate key in case we want to go there by ourselves.

I just slumped myself on a long sofa when I remembered something. I want to know what they're talking about earlier. So I grabbed my phone. Unfortunately, may phone's dead so I have to borrow one from them.

"Hey do you mind if I borrow your phone?" I asked Maddox who is just next to me.

"What are you going to do? Rummage through my stuff?" he asked while eyeing me.

"No, silly. My battery died and I just need to check something." I said to him.

"Okay, here." he just tossed his phone to me.

He just tossed his freaking phone at me. Can you believe that? Well, money is easy for him but what the hell?

So I searched through his news feed and I instantly saw what I was looking for. It's on trending!

'Astrid Blaire Pierce, a paid escort?'

'Blaire, the greatest slut.'

Those were just the two trending headlines.

Wow, I mean who would've thought that I would make it to the headlines? But not like this.

My eyes starts to water. How can they make the accusations without even knowing the whole story. I bet they just did that for fame.

But the news spreads like wildfire. I can see a lot of comments. The post also has many shares. But one comment caught my eye.

'Stop making wrong accusations. It could get you sued.'

That was from Cameron. I checked when did he commented and found out that it's been two days and he didn't even bother to tell me. So that is why he's avoiding me for the past few days. He knew the problem all along.

I returned Maddox's phone. I just stared at the ceiling to keep my tears from falling.

I can see them from my peripheral view, actually. I know that they're staring at me but I don't want them to see me on the verge of crying.

I know that they want to ask me questions but they just kept it to themselves.

Well, I know that this is actually how life works. Sometimes it's good but sometimes it is not.

_____

I arrived an hour late from my curfew. It is already seven in the evening.

I was already in front of our gate when someone's headlights flashed before me. I was trying to look at the driver but the lights are blinding me.

My eyes grew wide when Cameron came out of the car.

I didn't expect him to be here at this hour.

"Hey, why are you home late?" he asked but I just shrugged.

"Are you mad? I'm sorry about what happened. I honestly didn't know that someone spotted us." He softly said.

"It's okay, it's not your fault. We both didn't want this to happen." I smiled.

"I know you are the most affected in this situation. So please, tell me what's on your mind." He pleaded.

"Maybe we can keep distance from each other? To avoid any issues." I whispered.

"W-What? Blaire you know I can't keep distance from you." He said opposing what I want.

"It's just for the meantime Cameron. We can just keep it low key from public once everything is settled. When the issue's gone." I said with finality.

"Okay, if that's what you want. But I can't promise to stop pursuing you because I won't. And I will never stop." He sighed in defeat.
