The next morning...
The annoying alarm clock went off, but turned off again. I looked to my other side of the futon to check, and there Mitsu was.
"Ohayo~ " she greeted in her mother language.
"Mitsu? You came early, what's the rush? "
"I missed you. " she moaned. "Can't I come see you early in the morning? "
"Point taken. " I said, right before I laid a kiss on her perfect lips.
Meanwhile downstairs, Rose whipped up a coffee and did her work on the kitchen counter. She was typing words on a laptop in one hand and crunching numbers with a calculator. With so many people on the black market craving human organs, blood and marrow, it was a difficult choice to make between the price and offers made by buyers.
"Getting headaches? " Caleb said as he noticed Rose massaging her temples, with his favorite Makarov pistols at his side. "Try sleeping more, dumbass. "
"I've survived on 5 hours of sleep every night, even up until now. So piss off. "
"Don't die now. " he said, hefting a box full of weed bricks to the truck. "I'm heading out. You want anything? "
" Just get me something to eat, I'll be fine. "
"Gotcha. I'll be back in 2 hours, give or take a few minutes. "
Shannie walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. She toyed around with a small streak of water, as a little exercise. She had a bottle of soda in one hand, sipping it in intervals.
"Goddamn morning this is... " she muttered.
Rose waved at her in response.
"You look stressed. Anything up? "
"Don't I look like this all the time? What's so different now? "
"There's a certain line between dead tired and brain damage on your face. We've learned how to differentiate that. So, what's up? "
"There's a guy downstairs, he's a tough fighter. Tranquilizers and tasers don't work on him. And I need those livers. "
To be honest, I don't really like dark humor. But holy shit, she can beat H. P. Lovecraft in grotesque literature if she wanted to.
"Well, I'm not going down there. Not the depths of hell, no thank you. " Shannie said, dissolving the water in the air. As I walked down the stairs with Mitsu following behind, Shannie turned to me and pointed.
"Annson. "
"Yes? "
"Get down there. "
"Oh, aren't we feisty this morning? You're tempting, but I'm afraid I'll have to deny your servi- "
"I mean, get down there. As in the FUCKING basement. "
The liveliness vanished from my eyes, with horror substituting its absence. I tried to refuse and bail out, but the three girls ganged up on my ass and made me drew the short straw.
"Where's Caleb when you need him... "
I slowly open the door (classic DDLC reference). The pungent and irritating smell of blood and viscera from the basement flew almost immediately into my nostrils. I walk into the brightly lit room and saw a surgery table, with the lamps you see in hospital operations. It was shiny clean, with leather straps for the arms and legs. The floor however, was bloodstained in patches instead of splotches.
At the left side of the room, there was a metal chair and tools of pain. Several hospital screens (which are now stained crimson red) covered the torture chair like a cubicle. On the other side is a metal door, leading to Rose's bedroom. Although she rarely sleeps, at least there's a place for her to rest.
"God damnit... Let's get this over with. "
I crossed the room and stopped at the front of a corridor. There was a man screaming to let him out, obviously one of Rose's victims.
"Let me out! You don't know who you're dealing with here! Oi, lemme out! "
"Man, you're a racket. " I said.
"I dunno who ya are but you're with that bitch, ain't cha? " he said.
"Guilty as charged. So why not settle down- "
" Wait a minute. You're him, you're The Police Hound! "
A Gangster, with an Ability no less.
Fuck.
At that moment, he raised both his arms and barbed wire appeared, coiling around my neck. I activated my Ability to melt off the wires but to no avail.
"Tough luck, man. It's strengthened tungsten, your fire won't help you now! "
My hands grabbed the wires as a reflex. But the more I lower the chances of being choked and bleed to death, my hands paid a painful price.
"Can't believe I got lucky. Killing a Hunter with my own Ability. Wait till The Revenants hear about this! "
Blood was oozing out even more now. I could land a blast at him, but his Ability would finish me off either way. In that second, a white butterfly flew into view. It flapped its snowy wings into the cell and onto the prisoner's shoulder. Instantly, the wires disappeared and glowdust replaced its absence. I took in a big gulp of air and launched a fire burst at him, knocking him to the wall.
"You're seriously hopeless, A-chan. "
"Can't help it, let's go. "
" You alright? "
"It'll heal, but it'll be a long while. "
Mitsu held my neck and closed her eyes. Slowly, the scars and scratches healed and disappeared.
"Thank you, Mi-chan. "
"No... problem... " she said before going into deep sleep.
Mitarashi Mitsu is a support Ability User. Her Ability, "Monarch in A Machine ", allows her to neutralize other Abilities for a short while, depending on how many butterflies she creates. However, these white butterflies are fragile and can be easily destroyed like normal butterflies.
Then there's her healing Divinity, "A Doctor's Heartache ". This Divinity can mend any wound, internal or external. As a side effect, it drains Mitsu's energy, making her tired and sleepy. The worse the patient's condition, the more her energy is used.
"Whoa, what happened? " Shannie said as I walked up the basement stairs, with Mitsu in my arms.
"A little disagreement, nothing more. "
"You had better not damaged the organs. " Rose said, going down.
"Yeah, yeah. "
That night, Mitsu slept side-by-side with me. It was cheesy, but the both of us cuddled. Caleb warned us if we were to have some hand-holding action, he would not hesitate to whip out the Mossberg 930 and bestow divine punishment for betraying The Lonely Otaku Alliance.
Rose, again, worked in her laboratory. Caleb was working hard to get a good score on Borderlands 3 while Shannie hit the sack early.
We didn't know what would happen after.
