There was a gentle knock on the door, and Celeste being the light sleeper she was, opened her eyes immediately. Once she realised that the sun was filtering through the gaps in her heavy velvet curtains, a beautiful smile spread across her lips.
She sat up and ran to the door, opening it to reveal her father. "Is it time to go to Hogwarts?"
"Indeed it is, Celly. Got your trunk all packed up?" He asked his youngest who was bouncing around, no sign of sleepiness. She had always been an early riser.
"Yes, Papa, all done since yesterday!" She exclaimed happily.
"Good job! Now, go get dressed and then come eat some breakfast, alright?"
"Okay, Papa. Je t'aime!" (trans: I love you)
"Je t'aime aussi." He ruffled the top of her messy hair and then left to the dining room, a fond smile on his face. (trans: I love you too)
Celeste laughed happily as she danced around her room, making her way to her closet. Her smile widened at the sight of the gorgeous wand that laid atop her little carry-on bag. She grabbed the clothes she left out from before and made her way into the bathroom.
After she cleaned up and got dressed, she came out and stood in front of the mirror with her comb in hand. She examined her outfit as she combed her hair. It consisted of a deep red dress and a black coat over top. Once she combed her hair, she concentrated on it and turned the ends of it a matching red to her dress, smiling in satisfaction.
"Mama is going to murder you for that hair, Celly." Someone called from behind her. She whirled around to see her thirteen year old brother leaning against her door, arms crossed and a smirk on his face.
"Even if she does make me change it, it's not like she's with us during school, is she, Killian?" Celeste replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"You're going to cause chaos in Hogwarts, little one." He laughed.
"Help me with this please?" She held out a necklace and a bracelet. He nodded and came forward, clasping the beautiful diamond necklace around her neck. It was a gift from her parents when she got her letter. And the bracelet, he helped her put it on as well. It was a simple gold one, gifted from Killian and Thomas for her last birthday. She hadn't taken either off since she got them.
"Merci, mon frère." (trans: thank you, my brother)
"De rien, petite soeur." He squeezed her shoulder lightly. "Come on, I'll carry your trunk down." (trans: it's nothing, little sister)
"Alright, I just need to grab my bag and I'll be right there." She nodded her head towards where her dark trunk was stood, her name engraved on the front. Killian grabbed her trunk, which had a charm on it to make it feel lighter than it was and carried it out the door.
Celeste grabbed her carry on and safely stowed her wand into it, along with her sketchbook and a few pencils. She added a lip-gloss and a little toy for her kitten to play with. She then slung the bag across her shoulder, wrapped a scarf around her neck and knelt down, one knee on the ground.
"Nox? Nox, come here kitty." She called out. Her little black kitten stumbled over from where he was hidden under the bed. Celeste smiled and lifted him into her arms, stroking his ears and the top of his head with her painted nails. "Let's go Noxy."
Celeste finally left her room and made her way down the carpeted hallway to the grand staircase. She walked down it and turned to a room off the side where everyone else was sat at the dining table. "Bonjour, ma famille! What a wonderful day it is, oui?" She grinned as she kissed her mother on the cheek, hugged her other brother, Thomas, and then sat down beside Killian with Nox in her lap. (trans: good morning, my family)
"Have you not noticed it's pouring outside, Celly?" Killian asked, knowing full well that she had.
Celeste scowled. "I have, actually, Killian. But, the mere fact that I am going to Hogwarts today makes me forget all of that."
"What house do you think you'll be in, my little Celly?" Her mother asked. "Hufflepuff is the best, if I might add." Their mother was a proud badger, and she never let them forget it, constantly covering all their rooms in canary yellow and black decorations, despite Thomas being a Slytherin, Killian a Ravenclaw and their father a Gryffindor.
"Mum, that's is where you're mistaken. Slytherin is far better. Celly is ambitious, she'll be in Slytherin, just like I was." Thomas puffed his chest proudly. He had graduated the previous year, but his room was still all emerald green and silver.
"You got ambitious right, maybe that's why she'll be in my house, Thomas. She's a Ravenclaw and there is no doubt in it." Killian patted his sister's back.
"You're all wrong! My daughter is a Gryffindor, and there is no doubt in it. look at the bloody way she's dressed. It's a red dress, and even her hair's red!" Their father commented, pointing.
"Hair? Red?" Marie Fawley raised her eyebrows, looking right at Celeste, who quickly turned her hair back fully into platinum blonde.
"Red hair? Mama, you must be mistaken. I have platinum hair." Celeste laughed nervously. She was a brilliant liar, but if there was one person in the world who could make her break a sweat and lose her cool, it was her mother.
"I better have been mistaken, ma cherie." Her mother cast her a warning look. (trans: my darling)
"Anyways, I am not sure which house I will be in, but no doubt I will have someone I know in every house. I hope Sirius and I end up in the same house." Her parents exchanged a look and Thomas scowled.
"Hogwarts will be nothing but chaos with you and Sirius joining this year. I can only hope Narcissa and Andromeda might be able to reign you both in." Killian commented.
"This is Andy's last year, and I have no doubt Narcissa will be a Slytherin, whereas for me, I am not fully sure where I will end up, and I don't think Sirius is fully Slytherin either." Celeste replied, a pout on her lips at the thought of Andromeda Black leaving them next year.
"For his own sake, I hope he is Slytherin. God knows what his parents will do to him if he isn't." Marie commented, shaking her head, clearly disapproving of how the Blacks treated their children.
"Celly, make sure he knows he's always welcome here, including Christmas and summer breaks." Zachariah said to his daughter.
"Yes, Papa." She finished off her food. "Can we leave now?"
"Yes, we can leave now." He chuckled. "Poppy!"
A little house elf appeared, dressed in clean clothes with the Fawley family crest emblazoned on it. "Yes, Master?"
"Can you please clean this up?"
"Yes, Master." She bowed and snapped her fingers.
"Thank you Poppy!" Celeste smiled and waved at the little elf, who nodded her head and disappeared. "Let's go!" Celeste cradled Nox in her arms and made sure her carry on was around her, and her scarf wrapped around her neck. September weather was no joke. Especially since they lived in Northumberland, which was in the very north of England.
Celeste waited at the front door while everyone gathered their things. Thomas stood beside Celeste along with their mother. Their father carried Celeste's trunk and Killian carried his own. "Alright, we'll see you lot there, then." Thomas grinned before grabbing Celeste's arm and Disapparating.
They appeared at Kings Cross station, and Celeste steadied herself. She had apparated with people before, but it would always be a little weird and disorienting. "You alright, Celly?"
Celeste took a deep breath. "Yeah, I'll be fine." She looked around, recognising the scene from previous years when they brought Thomas and Killian to the platform. Her eyes glimmered at the sight of the scarlet train that she would finally board after waiting so long.
Soon enough, her mother appeared, her arm linked with Killian, and their father appeared after them, Celeste's trunk in his hand. Celeste barely managed to hand Nox to her brother before Marie let go of Killian and lunged at Celeste. "Oh, ma petite cherie! I will miss you so much!" (trans: my little darling)
She crushed her in a tight hug that was reciprocated for a while before Celeste patted her mother's back. "Mama, I can't breathe. S'il vous plait, mama!" (trans: please)
"Alright, Marie, I think that's enough." Marie let go of her daughter, who coughed and then straightened her dress, and patted her hair. Her father grabbed her in a hug, lifting her off her feet and swinging her around. He let her go after and smiled down at her.
"Oh, Celly, I can't believe you're leaving!"
"Come on, Papa! Don't cry! I'll be back for Christmas, promise!"
"Yes, of course. and be sure to invite anyone you want over; I want to meet everyone who's sane enough to be friends with you." He grinned at her.
"Very amusing, Papa. You should be a comedian." She said sarcastically.
"I know, I know. Je t'aime, Celly." He kissed her forehead.
"Je t'aime, Papa." She hugged him one more time. Then, she hugged her mother. "Je t'aime, Mama."
"Je t'aime, ma cherie." Her mother waved at her. "We'll take your trunks to the trunk carriage. See you at Christmas."
She then headed to Thomas, while Killian said goodbye to their parents. "Tommy." She pouted.
"Celly." He chucked in response. "Come here, kiddo." She took Nox from him and placed the kitten in her carry on, and then hugged her eldest brother tightly.
"I'll miss you, Tommy." She said into his shirt as he ran his hand through her hair.
"I'll miss you too, Celly. I'll see you at Christmas though, got it?" He pulled away and held her by the shoulders.
"Got it." She smiled tearfully and wiped under her eyes.
"Now go on and save Sirius from his family over there." He pointed to where her best friend was stood with his family. She nodded and waved before lifting Nox back into her arms and leaving towards that direction.
Walburga saw her approaching and the stern look on her face vanished and was replaced with a smile. "Celeste, dear."
Sirius turned around and smiled immediately when he saw her. "Cel."
"Good morning." She smiled gently at them all, linking her arm with Sirius. "I hope you're all doing well."
"Doing great, thank you, sweetheart." Orion replied. He was quite fond of the young girl. Even though she might not be a Slytherin, he didn't care. She wasn't his child so that wasn't something he needed to worry about. He liked her because she was pureblood, and from a respected family. She was rich and polite and well-mannered. Everything needed in a good wife.
"That's wonderful. Oh, I wish you could come with us, Regulus." Celeste smiled sadly at the 10 year old stood by his mother.
He smiled back and brushed a hand through his dark hair. "As do I, Celeste, as do I."
"Well, we're going to be late, so we really do need to head off. Goodbye, see you at Christmas, maybe." Sirius waved and dragged Celeste onto the train, both of them laughing. "Oh, thank you for saving me, Cel."
"My pleasure. Always happy to be your knight in shining armour, Sirius." She smirked, causing him to roll his eyes. They managed to find a compartment with one other person in it, and they sat there after asking for permission.
The train started moving, and two other people joined them. A red headed girl and a boy with a hooked nose and dark hair. They had a quiet conversation before the boy exclaimed happily "But we're going! This is it! We're off to Hogwarts!"
The girl wiped her face and nodded. Celeste wanted to ask her if she was alright, but the other boy with her made her feel uncomfortable, so she held herself back. "You'd better be in Slytherin."
"Slytherin?" The other boy in the compartment spoke. He had messy black hair and hazel eyes. "Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" He directed the last part of his sentence towards Sirius and Celeste.
"Well, considering my older brother was a Slytherin, I don't think they're that bad. If I catch you badmouthing a house one more time, you'll regret it." She threatened him, but it was light-hearted, and the boy grinned at her response, glad to see she wasn't afraid to speak out.
"My whole family have been in Slytherin. Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where you heading, if you've got the choice?"
The boy pretended to lift a sword. "Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart! Like my dad!"
Celeste got excited and sat up. "My father's a Gryffindor too! My mother was a Hufflepuff. Thomas graduated but he was the Slytherin, and Killian is a Ravenclaw."
"You've got quite the variety, haven't you?" He replied.
"Quite. Papa wants me to be a Gryffindor, he thinks my dress is an indication."
The other boy made a small, disparaging noise. "Got a problem with that?"
"No, if you'd rather be brawny than brainy-"
"Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?" Sirius commented, causing Celeste to laugh and the other boy to grin in response. But Celeste lost the smile as she looked at the other boy.
"Listen, you might have a preferred house. But just as I said to him, let me catch you badmouthing another house, and I'll use some of the spells my brother taught me to teach you a bloody lesson."
The red head flushed and gave the three looks of dislike. "Come on, Severus, let's find another compartment." They left, leaving the three sat there.
"I'm James Potter by the way." James introduced himself, brushing a hand through his messy hair. "Lovely to meet you."
"Celeste Fawley."
"Sirius Black."
"You too look like you know each other."
"Since childhood." Celeste nodded.
"Our families meet up a lot."
"Yeah, pureblood functions." Celeste rolled her eyes. "They suck, but my parents are kind of obligated. They don't believe in any of it, though."
"Wish that were the case for me. Walburga and Orion can suck my-"
"Alright, Sirius, save it for later." Celeste smacked his arm, but there was a smile on her lips.
Suddenly the door to the compartment slammed open and the three jumped in shock. Killian was stood there, already dressed in his Ravenclaw uniform, and accompanied by a few of his friends. "Bloody hell, Killian, cause me a heart attack before I make it to Hogwarts, will you?" Celeste placed a hand over her chest.
"You disappeared on me at the platform. Then, Tommy told me you went to find Sirius."
"Well, I couldn't leave him at the hands of the monsters, could I?"
"Suppose you couldn't." Killian then noticed Sirius with her. "Alright, Sirius?"
"Hey, Killian."
"Oh, Killian, this is James. We just met him." Celeste introduced them. "James, this is my older brother Killian."
"James Potter. Nice to meet you." James smiled up at the tall boy.
"Merlin, you found someone willing to hang out with you, Celly." Killian laughed when his sister scowled.
"Get out, Killian. Before I send an owl to Thomas and make him come get you. or better yet, why don't I practise some of the spells he taught me? It'd be a good way to get ahead of everyone else, wouldn't it?"
"Very funny, Celly. I expect a Ravenclaw tie next time I see you." He waved and left with his friends. Celeste turned to Sirius.
"I'm not putting up with him for the next 5 years. No way. That's it. Sirius, you have to remove my memory, I'll be stupid, and I won't get into Ravenclaw."
"Cel, I think the fact that you're willing to take those measures would be enough to get you into Ravenclaw." Sirius shook his head in amusement.
Celeste covered her face with her hands, groaning in exasperation. Her hair flashed a variety of colours as she tried to contain her annoyance.
"WOAH! YOUR HAIR!" James yelled out. Celeste lifted her head, a curious look on her face. "It changed colours!"
"Oh bloody hell, I've got to get it under control when I'm upset." She rolled her eyes. "My hair indeed changes colour. Most of the time I can control it. I'm a metamorphmagus, meaning it isn't just hair." She winked before adding cat ears to the top of her head and then removing them.
"Merlin's beard." James gasped.
"Speaking of, mama's not here, so, I might as well change it." Celeste concentrated for a while and the tips of her chair changed to match her hair.
"Vous a-t-elle menacé de changer de couleur?" Sirius asked, immediately imagining the look of outrage on her mother's face when she saw her daughter's pure hair tipped with a scandalous red. (trans: did she threaten you to change the colour?)
"Bien sûr, elle l'a fait." Celeste sighed, running a hand through her hair, and then dropping it to stroke Nox. (trans: of course she did).
"So sorry, excuse those of us uneducated, but what bloody language was that?" James cast them an incredulous look.
"French. My mama is part French, and she taught me and my brothers." Celeste explained.
"I was required to learn a language as a child, so I thought why not learn the one Cel speaks, that way we can talk about people without them knowing." Sirius winked at James.
"Don't worry, James. I'll teach you French, so you don't feel left out." Celeste mocked.
"Very funny, Celeste."
"I know I am. By the way, you can just call me Cel, most people do." She offered, and he nodded, smiling. "Mind if I call you Jamie?"
"Go for it."
Nox then leaped out of her arms and stretched on the ground. James awed at the sight of the kitten. "He yours?"
"No, I kidnapped him and stuffed him in my bad." She sent him an exasperated look. "Yes, he's mine. His name is Nox. I didn't want an owl, besides, why have brothers if I can't share their owls with them." She shrugged.
"That's going to be Regulus next year. He's going to hound Leo." Sirius sighed.
"I still don't understand why you called him Leo."
"He's my child, and it's Black tradition to name your children after constellations."
"Yes, I understand that. But why Leo? That's the lion constellation."
"Technicalities." Sirius waved his hand, and Celeste slapped it before it could smack her across the face.
"Watch it, Black." She warned.
"Or what, Fawley?"
"You don't wanna know."
"I wanna know though!" James piped up, causing the pair to laugh.
"I've only just met you, James, but I can already tell we're going to be very good friends." Celeste smiled at the messy haired boy, who grinned back at her in response.
