Today Class 6-A of Lynier No. 4 Primary School was on a field trip. Every week for the past month they visited the factories and offices of different occupations as to find where their interests lie.
When students graduate from Primary school and into Middle school, they could finally get their first Pokémon. These 3 years of Middle School would be very loose, and students would be given free rein to train their Pokémon and learn about the occupation they want to have when they grow up.
Some students would join their parents in their work, others would try hands-on on different occupations, and others would travel to other Forts via plane. They would only have to report once a week to their teacher through a video call about their experiences, with the approval of an adult to confirm.
Students have to be prepared to enter into the high school of their choice and pass the entrance examination.
Thus, these field trips had a big effect on what students want to be when they grew up. They had already visited the Police Office, a Construction Site, and recently the Wool (and Mutton) Farm.
And today they are visiting the Lynier Power Plant.
The Lynier Power Plant was the source of all the electricity in Lynier City and was located at the far South neighboring the Wool Farm. It was so that any accidents will not distract or implicate the residents in the city.
As the students one by one got off the bus, they marveled at the size of the Power Plant.
Spanning a total land area of 120,000 square meters, enough to completely fill their line of sight, it was really big. It was necessary, because it needs to generate enough electricity to power all the houses, buildings, and the walls of the entire city.
Dad's Wool Farm also regularly visit the Power Plant to sell electricity and managed to earn extra big bucks.
The teacher assigned everyone in five groups, unconsciously grouping Raiden and Max along with four others.
For the past 6 years, Raiden and Max were always together, and they did everything together. If you see one of them, then the other must not be that far behind.
It was to the point that people felt something wrong if they see Raiden or Max alone. Now they were together again in the same group, and it was a good thing.
At the entrance, they were greeted by five workers who each lead a group and served as their tour guides. They handed out a pamphlet containing the layout of the entire Power Plant, with simple explanations on each part of the building. It was quite colorful and was an intriguing read.
The students were curiously looking everywhere. They watched as workers were busying about and Pokémon like Voltorb, Magnemite, and rarely, Magneton and Electrode floating and rolling about.
One worker explained, "We mainly use the help of Magnemite and Voltorb when collecting electricity because they have a steady current of electricity that lessens the strain on the machines. A fluctuating current would be hard to convert Pokémon moves to electricity and we will lose some in the process."
The workers then took turns to explain the general process of each sector they passed by and answered all the questions of the students.
As they were walking, Max saw many black marks on the walls that looked like burns.
"Excuse me, sir. What are those marks from? Was there an accident here before?" Max pointed at the walls. The other students also looked over and made their own guesses.
"Ah." The tour guides were surprised as they didn't expect these kids would notice. They didn't mention it as they weren't proud of it, but it was not something secret either.
They mused for a while before deciding to tell the students.
"Indeed, there was an accident here 8 years ago. At that time, we made use of Fort Pokémon under the leadership of Trained Pokémon. We had hundreds of Electric Pokémon and electricity was so much cheaper back then.
Everything was fine until an Electrode suddenly fell into Rampage and Self-Destructed right in the middle of the facility. Electrodes were the scariest Pokémon if they become Ferocious.
The explosion was so great it caused a chain explosion among electric-type Pokémon. We lost all our hundreds of Fort Pokémon.
Fortunately, we were having our 5th anniversary party outside the Power Plant. None of our workers were injured.
After that the Pokémon League banned the use of wild Fort Pokémon in important areas of the city." The worker told the story smoothly.
It was only devastating in a way that most machines were broken, causing enormous losses. It was not because of the casualties. After all Fort Pokémon were still wild Pokémon. It's just like Torchic. Only some found it a pity.
"Woah." The students marveled.
They weren't scared. They were already 12 and 13-year-olds. Puberty was knocking on their doors. They weren't kids anymore. Some twisted boys even secretly found it cool.
Raiden thought about the Wool Farm. It seems like it was okay because Mareep and Flaafy weren't too dangerous.
As they continued on with the tour, they then reached the place where the electricity was stored.
Six 2-meter tall and 1-meter wide metal drums stood tall in the far end of the facility. It was locked behind fences to stop people from touching it and get electrocuted. There were tens of thick wired connected through these barrels towards the high voltage towers.
"Pokémon electric-type moves are neither the same nor are compatible with the electricity in our homes and appliances.
Thus, we channel the electricity we gathered into these barrels, which we call Batteries, each containing a thunderstone and filled with electrolytes. This converts the electric moves into electricity we can use."
At this time, tens of workers were working on with one of the barrels that already looked a little worn.
"Oh right. Today was the day where we changed one of the Batteries. This particular Battery has been in operation for 10 years, surviving even the explosion 8 years ago.
Changing them isn't that dangerous. We had been emptying out all the electricity all this morning and it seems it's already done. We also have a new Battery already on standby, so residents at the city won't even notice."
The worker carefully explained as the class went on to watch as the workers lifted out the Battery.
As soon as it touched the ground-
CLANG!
Nothing happened. It just made the normal sound of ringing metal.
One worker used a set of giant pliers to open the lid of the barrel, and then-
BANG!
The lid flew out up high and was deciding on which person to land on. But this was the last of all the people's worries as a bright blue light with a hint of gold whizzed everywhere at an extremely fast speed!
"Kikikiki-ki-ki-ki-Kiiiii!"
The blue light danced around like electricity, passing through walls and laughing disconcertingly.
Everybody was shocked! But they knew... It was a Pokémon!
And then suddenly, it stopped midair!
It stood at 20 centimeters tall, only as big as a palm, had a golden body and blue thunder-shaped wings.
Once all the people got to see it in entirety, only a few knew what it was!
Before the workers could even react, Raiden suddenly shouted.
"It's a Rotom! Everybody, evacuate!"
"Kiki-ki-ki-kiiiii!"
A Rotom was a very rare Pokémon to see in Elendel. As an Electric/Ghost type Pokémon it was almost unheard of until technology advanced to this point.
Ghost-type Pokémon were born from the spirits of deceased Pokémon. They do not have memories of their past life but were entirely new entities.
Raiden knew of Rotom at first glance from the knowledge of his past life and remembered that it was a mischievous Pokémon. But he also read from a book, that mischievous Pokémon are more dangerous as they knew nothing of the bounds of danger.
This Rotom was also a special Rotom. It was smaller than it seemed and instead of its usually red-orange core, it had a gold body and a much brighter plasma.
Raiden then thought of a few things. The explosion 8 years ago, hundreds of dead electric type Pokémon, and Power Plant. It then all fell into place. This Rotom was born here!
"Kikikiki-kiii!"
As the students were trying to back away, the Rotom suddenly dived into a worker's body. It just went through, but not before electrocuting the man.
"Kiki-kikiki-ki?"
It then went through two more men, shocking them, figuratively and literally. Then it turned it sights to the class of boys and girls.
The Rotom then dashed dizzyingly fast towards a female student, and she fell. But the Rotom did not go through her and was nowhere to be found!
At this point everyone forgot to run, as they stared at the girl who had her head down, waiting for something to happen.
There were a few seconds of silence, as the teacher approached the student.
"Student, are you okay?" The teacher asked worriedly.
As the girl lifted her head, she laughed... Disconcertingly.
"Kikikiki-ki-ki-ki-Kiiiii!"
She suddenly stood up and began to run. Running towards the wall.
THUD!
A thud painful to hear sounded across the room, as the girl fell to the ground with her head bleeding and her arm twisted.
Everybody winced in pain for the girl as some felt fear they never had before. She was possessed!
Rotom went out of the student's body as it searched for another 'playmate'. By this point everyone broke out into a run. Fear clouded their minds and their judgement.
The workers didn't have their Pokémon with them as they used them to work in other areas. It was also difficult to fight against a Rotom who was extremely fast without hurting the students.
The teacher called out his Machoke and Chewtle, but even he knew it was pointless. Machoke as a Fighting-type was useless against Ghost-types and Chewtle was just too slow.
Raiden just stood still and just watched on with a pale face, as he knew that those who run will catch the attention of the Rotom more. And he was right.
Rotom overtook everybody who dashed towards the exit and possessed the male student who was at the forefront. It controlled his body to turn around and ran into another student at full speed.
Both students who ran at full strength crashed together with a sickening crunch as a cry of pain filled everybody's ears. The student who was not possessed broke his arm and a bone stuck out his flesh as he bled and bled until he fainted from the pain.
"Kikiki-ki-kiki-ki-kiiii!"
The Rotom then flew out from the boy as it suddenly stopped and looked as if it thought of something even more fun.
It dashed towards the lights.
The lights flickered for a few seconds and then everything went dark.
"Kikikiki-ki-ki-ki-Kiiiii!"
Screams of terror, cries for help and shouts of pain filled the air for a few minutes along with the occasional terrifying laughter.
Running was useless as this was the Power Plant with a lot of dangerous areas and wires. These people were just scaring themselves as tears flowed out from their eyes.
Seeing nothing was a lot scarier than before as the people were feeding themselves with even more terrifying scenes.
"Max! Max, where are you!?" Raiden was panicking. Although he was more mature than others of his age, he was still a kid at heart. He crouched down and crawled, looking for wherever Max was.
As he reached someone, he looked at who it was. He was lucky, it was Max.
"Max, are you okay? Come on, let's leave quickly!" Raiden urged.
As he looked closer at Max, he knew something was wrong.
"Ki-kiki-ki-ki-kikikiiiii!"
Without even thinking, he punched.
