"You both... are not my real parents, are you?"
Silence....
It was really hard for them to reply her question because this would turn out to be something that hadn't expected. But they need to say something and here they had no option rather to tell her the truth. Mr. Jones mostly feared to ever face this situation as he wouldn't want to dream any scene after her knowing the truth but now he was scared to even guess the next moment.
"Eve..lyn.. dear..li-"
"No. Just answer me. Are you my real parents? Are you?"
Mrs. Jones was completely taken back and she couldn't control her tears as they made their way out abruptly wetting her cheeks. Leon completely amazed by Evelyn's question, he too remain frozen. His mind was completely filled with assumptions and worries but he couldn't get any better. Mr. Jones and Evelyn were having stern eye contact as both were talking with their gaze.
"No... We are not. And now you know that we are not your real parents.... will you leave us?"
Mr. Jones questions with teary eyes as his heart broke with this very thought but he knew he had to prepare for the consequences and results. He had prepared himself for this situation but having it so fast and unexpectedly caught him off guard with insecurities and stress. He never wanted Evelyn to know the truth in the way it is happening now. He wanted to say this all to her from his very mouth with their family talking about it to her. But the situation just turned around making his plans flop and more birraze. He didn't know what he should do now to protect his family.
And Evelyn upon hearing this statement from the person who she always take as her father, made her realize how much she was loved. She just realized this was not her family. This very family where she spent three years of her life is not her family. She had her own but the thing is she doesn't remember them. The thought of her real parents suffering because of her made her curse herself and felt guilty. Even this family who gave her love, unconditional love as if she was there own daughter will suffer because of her. This thought made her feel bad at herself. She blamed herself for all these things going on.
"N...No... I a-am s-so .... sorry..."
She turns around and slam the door shut. She went inside and sat in the corner of the room with her knees covering her chest and hands folded on her knees supporting her head. She cried her heart out. She just wanted to disappear at this moment. Having her present all fake made her feel worthless. She felt as if this is not her, this identity is not her's. She didn't belong here but she had been staying here as if she is a part but the problem was she couldn't remember herself.
She didn't know how she was. She didn't know who she was. She had no idea what her past was because she remembered nothing. She don't know how her parents are. How they look and how they were. She knew nothing.
Outside the room, the whole family were crying with this sudden scene taking place. They never thought it would happen so fast that they couldn't even explain her the truth. They did not have any idea what was going on in Evelyn's mind. And they had no idea how she is going through this. They never thought she would get so much affected by this revealation of truth.
"Evelyn... please just don't do this to us. Don't shut down yourself like this. Come out and we can talk. Hmm?"
Mrs. Jones says banging the door with the hope of seeing her coming out or at least her reply but they got silence in response. This made her cry even more. Mr. Jones approach her and wrap his arms around her shoulder and gently pat her head trying to calm her down.
"Let's us give her space, honey. She must be overwhelmed with all these. "
He then massage her forearms trying to soothe her. Leon then wipes away his tears with a heavy sign leaving his lips. He then approach his parents and engulf them inside his arms. Both Mr and Mrs. Jones caresses his arms which were wrapped around them.
"Dad is right, mom. You need to take rest. Hmm? Don't stress okay?"
Leon says pulling back and smiling softly at his mother. Mrs. Jones nods her head caressing Leon's cheeks and tenderly pecked his forehead. Leon then grabs his mother hand and drag her towards her bedroom. He then tucks her inside her duvet.
"Just take rest okay? I will talk to Evelyn."
He says making her smile and nod at his words. Then he leaves the room making his way towards the living room where his dad was seated with a tensed expression. He knew his dad was emotionally wretched but he doesn't let other see him being weak. And Leon knew what he should do. First he has to talk to his dad about everything.
"Dad..."
He says softly making his way to the couch where his dad was seating completely lost in his thoughts. Upon hearing Leon's voice, he looks up meeting Leon's gaze and smile a bit. Leon takes a seat beside his dad and sign having lots in his mind but having problem in expressing it to his dad. He surely had lots to say about the things that happened today. He fidgets with his fingers trying to form a correct word.
"What is it, Leon? Just say it already."
Leon awkwardly smiles at his dad and looking away. He clears his throat and face his dad.
"Umm... Actually today, I saw two boys and they -"
"Was it them who told her who she was?"
Mr.Jones cuts off Leon, while Leon nods his head taken back with his dad's sudden outburst. Still startled Leon questions
"But how do you know them, Dad?"
"No. I don't know them. My friend informed me about two boys asking for Evelyn."
Leon nods his head processing everything. Mr.Jones then went back in his own thoughts. He sure wanted to know who they were and what their relation was with Evelyn. What if they were danger for her. He couldn't let that happen. He needed to do something.
"Dad..."
"Yes?"
"What are you thinking?" Leon questions
"I am thinking... what if they are some sort of danger for her. I doubt for their appearance all of a sudden."
He says trying to come up with some plan. Leon too process his dad's word.
"But I don't think so..."
"Hmm? Why?" Mr.Jones questions confused.
"Because they were begging our Evelyn to remember them. One was crying bitterly and I could see hurt and pain in his eyes." Leon says recalling the moment Evan was begging her to remember him and to not leave him.
"But how can you be so sure. We don't know them." Mr. Jones says conflicted with his thoughts and his son's words and assumptions.
"I feel it dad. And they even talked about some incident responsible for Evelyn's disappearance. But I didn't get anything. They didn't elaborate."
Leon completes with a shrug while Mr. Jones was quiet surprised with this new informations. It was sure they didn't have any idea who Evelyn was. Where she came from and who she really is. They just know she is now their daughter and they had to protect her anyhow.
"We need to find them. Do you know who they are? "
