[What do I do? How can I face them? Most probably, why and how am I here? Do they know about my past?]
Tho they were never her family but she remembers only them as her family which came out to be fake but they still loved her as their own... She clearly remembers asking them if they were her family. And she did remember them hesitating to answer her if hey were her parents but they finally did answer that they were her foster parents not biological parents and this troubled her a lot.
[Where could my real parents be? Do they miss me?]
Evelyn kept thinking of every possible thing she could remember and comprehend. She sure wanted to know the truth but all she had were fragments of her nightmares and her memory ever since she woke up. She wanted answers to solve every question and doubt she has been having after her talk with Evan and Shane. Their words kept ringing in her head but she didn't want to believe those because... they do not exist in her presence but in the past which she had no memory off.
"I-I need a-answers. I need t-to ask ... them."
Evelyn stutters grabbing her head within her palms. She sobs sniffing, still not sure what she should do. She sure had resented herself for giving them stress and problems but for now, all she wants is to be left alone so that she can think of something or if she can remember her past if she forced herself too. But only she remembered was the day she opened her eyes in the hospital with her foster parents around.
She slowly stands on her feet but has been in a constant posture, her legs went numb and she felt uncomfortable as if every single cell of her legs were shaking and moving but she couldn't walk. She stumbles on the bed as she let herself be laid on the bed. She continued sobbing muttering a 'sorry' but she had no idea whom that sorry belonged too. If it was for her real parents or for her foster parents who she now calls her mom dad.
She signs with a deep intake of breath as she tries to slowly stand up again. With constant crying, she felt a bit weak as she had her body trembling with muscles cramped. As she stood up, she wiped away her tears but she couldn't hide the fact that she cried- just so much that she had her eyes red and swollen with her nose with a shade a tinted red. She signs making her way to the door. She felt bad to have ignored Leon's words when he had called her a few hours ago but listening to him made her weak and vulnerable. She felt distant knowing that he was not her brother.
She opens the door and walked out to be surprised. As Leon was still there standing by the side of the door. As soon as Leon sense a presence behind him, he turns around with much excitement. And he for sure smiled brightly and engulfed Evelyn in his embrace. He felt relieved once he got to see his sister. He always wanted a sibling and having Evelyn was the happiest thing that he received till now. He dearly loved her as his own. And his heart did hurt seeing his lovely and cheerful sister changed into a gloomy crying mess.
He finally let out a drop of tear as he kept patting her head. Evelyn hugged him back and they both enjoyed the silence which was a comfort for them being with each other. "Eve, cry as much as you want for now. Once I pull back I don't want to see you crying. " He says making the other chuckle and snuggle more into his chest for comfort.
She silently sobs for a while and she pulls back wiping her tears away.
"Are you hungry? You haven't eaten since morning," he questions receiving a subtle nod from her. He grabs her hand and drags her to the kitchen. He places her on the table.
"Just wait. I will call mom and dad. We can all eat together." He speaks and turns around.
"They... haven't eaten?" Evelyn inquires with her eyes down watching her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her clothes.
"No... um... they wanted to wait till you come out. And now that you are out we can all eat.!" Leon says walking away with a smile. He runs upstairs yelling for his mom and dad.
Soon Mr. and Mrs. Jones rush downstairs with Leon following behind. Mrs. Jones approaches the girl and engulfs her in her embrace. "Oh my baby...." she kept smooching Evelyn with affection as her state was overwhelming for Mrs. Jones to bear, who could see their children suffering in front of their eyes.
"Are you okay dear?" Mr. Jones questions just to receive a nod in return. With that, they sit across each other and ate their dinner.
Once the dinner ends with much silence and awkwardness which was much more for Evelyn as she felt outsider among the people who once she considered a family- her family. This brought tears in her eyes.
"Can I ask you all something?"
Evelyn asks with her voice cracked, the other could feel how troubled she was. "Of course dear, go ahead. " Mr. Jones speaks with a smile on his face. Leon keeps his gaze constantly on his little sister with worry and love. While Mrs. Jones was fidgeting with her fingers.
"C-Can you tell me w-who I am? And How am I-I here?"
She stutters, the other glance at each other as they had anticipated this to happen but they felt disappointed as they had no answer for her questions. They knew what she knew but a little more about how they found her. They were conflicting if they should tell her.
"I know you have lots of things going on in your mind. And about your question... we really don't have answers. We are sorry but we don't know who you really are." Mr. Jones says as he looks away trying to control the overflow of his emotions resulting in his tears. He sucked back his tears before they could escape his eyes. Evelyn nods her head disappointed as she had hoped to get a clue from her new family. "But where did you find me? Was I already in the hospital?" She questions in between her sobs. They all felt bad for her.
"No, your mom saw you in a critical condition. We were visiting our mother in the countryside, and we came across you. You were deeply wounded on the branch of the tree by the riverside. We took you to the hospital. We contacted the police officer but we couldn't get a hold of your identity except for that chain of yours. " He speaks while Evelyn grabs her necklace feeling a sudden hit of emotions making her break out in tears. She at least had something from her past- that would be her identity.
"Thank you so much for saving me. I don't know how I can repay you for all this. You all accepted me in your family and loved me as one. I felt as if I belong here... thank you so much. And I am sorry I became a burden to you all. " Mrs. Jones broke in tears hearing her confess her insecurities. She shook her head and walked to her. She engulfed Evelyn in her embrace. "No Baby. Don't say that. You were never a burden for us. We really love you. We want you to think of us as your mom and dad as you did before. Nothing changed, just the situation go messed up. But you needed to know this but not its soon. Don't worry, we are here for you." Evelyn sobs snuggling deeper into her mother's comfort and smell calming her down. She pulls away and smiles at her.
"How did I get so lucky to have you all?" She says making the other smile at her. Mr. Jones too went and joined the hug. Leon ran to them hugging his family. Leon smiles and says
"Let's be a happy family again."
