Beneath my calm poker face of an exterior, I am actually boiling internal; truth be told. I never expected being put in yet another situation where I have found myself helpless before the actions of another.
After the teahouse incident where Momo was grazed by a bullet, I told myself that I'd never find myself in similar circumstances. I deluded myself with visions of a future where my power had risen and I was in total control of everything; where nothing could go wrong.
But that… That's just not the way life goes.
I'm nowhere near the theoretical limit of power my Quirk should be able to evolve to. But, I'm more than strong enough to utterly trample on the League of Villains as they came to the USJ. Yet… if not for another bout of insane luck, had Shigaraki gone after literally anyone other than Setsuna… even with my Stage 8 Medic Paradigm, there probably wouldn't be much I could do.
Had Setsuna not quickly detached the rapidly decaying parts of her body and given me enough time to assist and heal her. She probably would've died, too.
I couldn't help but feel responsible. After all, had I never come into the picture, she'd in Class 1-B and spared the trauma of almost dying to a psychopath. Had I not buffed everyone to hell and back, she might have been less gung-ho about trying to launch a sneak attack. Had I treated this situation with some semblance of solemnity… Had I not played games with lives at stake…
Perhaps it doesn't matter in the end.
It's been at most a second and I've decided the futility of considering the possibilities of different actions. I have only two things to take away from this experience:
First, I'm not a god, nor will I ever become one; some things will always be out of my control.
Second, I refuse to live in fear; fear of divergence from canon events, and fear of my actions.
...
"Enough talking!" Tomura Shigaraki, Tenko Shimura, whatever you want to call him, said. "For all I know you're just making stuff up with a mind reading Quirk!"
"So you'd rather fight?" I scoffed, "I've already broken one of your arms. But, hey, if you're looking for a beating, I wouldn't mind paying you back for hurting my friend."
"Kurogiri!" Shigaraki barked before he broke into a charge.
"Is this a joke?" I deadpanned as Shigaraki's form was covered by a warp gate.
Why do people with teleportation powers always go for the back, first? It's honestly predictable.
In an instant, I turned around with the intention to instantly end the fight. But Kurogiri showed me he could make the fight actually challenging when he kept a portion of his Quirk blocking my sight. That, combined with the fact that he could warp parts of Shigaraki's body would prove to almost rival Mirio in bullshittery.
My lips quirked upwards as I chanted, "Thundara." A moment later, lightning hit my body and split into a domain of crackling sparks; hitting everything within five meters of its epicenter.
It stung like a wasp, but going by the grunts and charred scent that lingered in the air, Kurogiri and Shigaraki probably had it worse.
I used the moment they were stunned to switch Paradigms and, 'Commando, Ruinga.'
A silver-white point of light shot from my hand, reaching under a meter away from Shigaraki just as he turned his head up to see it, before it contracted into a mirage of nothingness.
Mmmm…
A silent implosion distorted my view of Shigaraki for a split second before a wave of darkness from Kurogiri got in the way. A couple meters away, a meter-deep crater in the shape of a perfect semicircle revealed the damage my attack was capable of.
"I thought heroes were supposed to be above killing," Shigaraki taunted.
"Good thing I'm not a hero yet," I quipped back. "Besides, I thought you were gunning for All Might? If you can't even handle me, do you honestly think you stand a chance?"
Eyes narrowing, Shigaraki looked at Kurogiri and made to sucker punch a rapidly forming foot-long warp gate. Seeing an identical warpgate on the left side of my periphery view, I jumped away in time to see an arm grabbed at the space I had previously been occupying.
"Attacking from a distance? I can do that too," I snorted and held my hand up to hold the exotic pistol that instantly formed.
"Blitz!" I yelled, as I left an afterimage behind. I was moving so quickly that by the time Kurogiri attempted to redirect my bulletstorm of an attack by covering both Shigaraki and himself with a wall of black fog, I was almost behind them.
Ratatata! Gratatata!
You'd think I was holding a pair of submachine guns from the incessant and rapid fire, but the guns in my hands, the Total Eclipses — Sazh's Ultimate Weapons — were in fact pistols.
"Motherfuck!" Shigaraki cursed, as anyone would after getting shot at least a dozen times. He'd survive, I made sure of it by aiming at his limbs.
Alas, I couldn't shoot him up further as Kurogiri reacted quickly enough and expanded his original wall of fog into a dome, effectively covering them from all angles.
Still… the seconds started to pass with the dome unmoving and just as I was suspecting something was wrong, I heard a scream to my right.
"Shit!" They had gone after Aizawa, triple teaming him with the Nomu that had been stalling him. In the short time I'd been watching the decoy dome, Kurogiri and Shigaraki had gone after Aizawa's face — his eyes, probably — but had only managed to score decay marks on his cheeks and chin before I reacted.
That's it.
I'm done with surprises for the day. In my heart I knew I could eventually beat everyone in the USJ by myself and come out unscathed, but being handicapped by allies so much more vulnerable than I, had stressed me to the point of using one of my ultimate abilities to just get this over with.
"Armiger!" I activated the 'summon' for my Commanda Paradigm to gain Noctis' Power of Kings.
Immediately, the Total Eclipses pistols in my hands dematerialized in favor of Noctis' Ultima Blade. Around me, the nine strongest cold arm weapons I was capable of sustaining appeared hovering around me. But, most intimidating of all was that the previously Ravager-exclusive teleportation ability was now available; for all of ten seconds.
"I AM HERE!" All Might loudly announced as he burst through the USJ's entrance with an entourage of U.A's teachers. Yet, I didn't even spare the lot of them a glance.
It took a second for me to warp strike the Nomu who held Aizawa down for Shigaraki to Decay. In the next two second, the three swords hovering around me flickered several dozen times to slice the humanoid abomination into dozens of chunks.
Seconds four and five were spend collapsing Shigaraki and Kurogiris' stomachs with punches that carried just enough force behind them to not pierce and kill the two of them. As the two flew through the air, Kurogiri covered them to teleport back to wherever they came from, leaving Shigaraki exposed for just long enough that he tried to intimidate me with a glare.
His glare seemed to say, 'the next time we meet, you're dead.'
I didn't flinch, instead, I glared back, 'test my patience again, and not even All for One will be able to save you.'
The instant passed and though I still had time remaining on my Armiger, I cancelled the ability to switch to the Medic Paradigm.
'Curasa,' I casted and Aizawa stopped grumbling and walking around, presumably from trying to distract himself from the pain of having part of his face decayed by Shigaraki's Quirk.
I paused as a flash of green from my chest indicated I had just evolved my Medic Brand to Stage 9.
'Nice,' I thought, before starting to walk over to the USJ's entrance. Thirteen was lucky I'd just reached the point of being able to cast one of the most overpowered abilities in any game; even beyond the Final Fantasy Series.
"Midoriya!" I heard Iida yelling as he approached. "Did you just kill that man in cold blood?!" He pointed at the squirming pieces left behind by the Nomu.
"First, that's not a man. It's a Nomu, which is more like a puppet than a sentient person. Second, no. It's not dead, it has a Hyper Regeneration Quirk, see?" As I continued to walk, the Nomu slowly but surely healed from wounds that would have killed anyone else a hundred times over.
"Regardless of the facts, I think you should see our counselor, Hound Dog. Being forced into committing such violent acts may prove to lay the groundwork for mental health issues going forward."
"Sure..." I said, though I had no intentions of actually going through with his suggestion; at least not now. Maybe if I started getting nightmares or something, but seeing as I know the Nomu isn't even a sentient human, I don't think I'll be troubled over eviscerating it.
"Fam, you gotta teach me some of those moves," Camie was the first to say as I finished climbing up the stairs to the USJ's entrance.
"I just wish I was resistant as you when it comes to getting electrocuted," Kaminari whined.
"Your swordsmanship was… impressive," Ectoplasm, my math teacher, said.
"It seems we came here to just see Midoriya wrap things up quite nicely for us," Midnight added with a sigh.
"Don't forget, I still need to check and treat any of the wounded," Recovery Girl said.
"Actually..." I sauntered right on over to Thirteen.
With a grim look on my face I hoarsely said, "Rise..."
'Raise,' I subvocalized.
And just like that Thirteen regained consciousness and got up as if her back hadn't been shredded to mangled flesh by her own Quirk.
"Holy shit! Did Midoriya just use necromancer powers?!" Kaminari asked the person to his right.
"Revelry in the dark. Hmm..."
"Now I just have to see if it will work on actually dead people," I muttered, earning pale looks from everyone.
