#39 Sudo's enlightenment

[Sorry but Hasabe is big no. I tried to invite her to your study group but she probably doesn't want to be anywhere near Yamauchi and Ike.] Yuichi sent a message to Horikita during the lunch break.

*bzz* The reply came almost immediately.

[I understand her reasoning. Then the only option is Ayanokoji convincing them.]

Yuichi looked weirdly at the display for a few seconds before he decided to write something he previously didn't want to.

[No, Kushida is the only option left...You know it very well. Anyway, what do you have against her? Is there any special reason why you don't like her?] (Y)

[Do I need to have a reason not to like somebody? It's Ayanokoji's problem to solve, there is no need for you to meddle any further] (H)

[Ay, ay, your Highness!] (Y)

[...-_-] (H)

[Hey, that's you!] Yuichi replied seeing Horikita's face in her last message and it indeed became her last message as a sign read appeared but she never replied back.

'Did I take it too far?' Yuichi thought scratching the back of his head.

Yuichi had the urge to send her last smiley face but he decided that he wants to be free from surprise attacks during classes.

Yuichi went to the cafeteria while typing another message to Sudo since he didn't know where he is right now.

[Yo, do you want to join my study group?] (Y)

[Eh...A study group? We will have to skip club activities because of it, won't we? I am not sure, man...] (S)

'Well, I didn't expect him to agree outrightly'

[Come on, Sudo! You had Four-fucking-teen points from that mock test. I am not letting you drop out so be prepared to study today. 5 PM at the library, don't reply to this message, thank you.]

[What the hell?! Iwamura! I never agreed to this!] (S)

[I apologize but right now I am too busy to reply to your message. This is an automatic reply.] (Y)

[Like hell it is! Iwamura, reply to me!] (S)

[I apologize but right now I am too busy to reply to your message. This is an automatic reply.] (Y)

'Fuck!' Sudo thought while gripping his phone tightly.

At almost 5 PM, in the library, on the 1st floor.

"Hi, everyone! I am sorry for being the last one to arrive despite organizing all of this." Yuichi said with an apologetic smile when he approached the desk occupied by 3 people.

"Hi, no problem Iwamura-kun."

"Hello, yeah, it's not even 5 PM yet"

There was another student with dark short hair named Miyake Akito.

"Iwamura, what the hell was that?!" Sudo immediately demanded answers.

"What do you mean? Anyway, since you are here, I will help you get at least 50 points in midterms." Yuichi said before sitting down next to Sudo, opposite to Hasabe.

"That sounds like a lot of work to do..." Sudo sounded unconvinced.

Yuichi took out his textbooks and put them in the middle of the desk.

"I have copied most of Horikita's notes so feel free to look into my textbooks." Yuichi said and everyone except for Sudo nodded.

After a while of studying in the group and Yuichi controlling Sudo that he studies seriously...

"Ugh, I don't understand this!" Sudo groaned before raising his voice in frustration.

"Psst, this is the library, tone your voice down, Sudo. Plus, raising your voice won't help you get the right answer, instead of doing that, just ask me for help next time." Yuichi said before looking at Sudo's problem.

[A, B, and C collectively have 2.150 yen. A has 120 yen more than B does. After C gives B two-fifths of his money, B would have 220 yen more than A. How much yen did A originally start with?]

When Yuichi read the question, his eyes widened as he had no idea that Sudo is so...stupid.

"Um, guys, can you please continue without me? I will focus a bit more on Sudo now." Yuichi said towards Hasabe and Miyake and both nodded their heads with understanding expressions.

"Alright, Sudo, let's start with the easiest task, write all the information you know down in your textbook." Yuichi said and Sudo started writing down, literally copying the question.

"No! Wait!" Yuichi quickly stopped him and explained to him how he should get rid of unnecessary words and information.

[A + B + C = 2.150

A = B + 120

B + 2/5*C = A + 220]

After more than 7 minutes of explanations, Sudo was finally able to finalize the start.

"Ok, now, there are probably more ways how to solve this and don't get scared by the 3rd line, it might be confusing at sight but it's really easy" Yuichi quickly comforted Sudo before he could run away from this.

"I know that it's easy for you, tch." Sudo replied angrily.

"*sigh* No, it isn't, Sudo. I can't solve it by looking at it, even I have to write a few steps to solve it." Yuichi sighed and replied.

"First of all, you need to get rid of one person with an unknown value. Do you see that 2nd line? You can replace everywhere where is [A] with [B + 120]. As for why...because A EQUALS B + 120, that's why you can simply replace it. Do you understand this?" Yuichi asked, maybe acting as if he was talking to an idiot but Sudo never really called out on him treating him like an idiot because...he is one and thanks to that he couldn't detect it. Sudo was just thinking that Yuichi is really good at explaining these things, unfortunately, those 2 sitting opposite to them were also listening. They were occasionally throwing Sudo pitying glances but they never meant anything bad by it.

"Good, so replace all As" Yuichi replied, letting Sudo write everything down.

[B + 120 + B + C = 2.150

B+ 2/5*C = B + 120 + 220]

"Good! This is the second step." Yuichi looked at the results and lightly clapped his hands, making Sudo feel a bit embarrassed as he frowned down.

"Now what?" Sudo asked, tapping with his pencil against the desk in a nervous manner.

"Sudo, you do know the rules behind equations, right? When you move something from the right to left and otherwise." Yuichi asked with an uncertain.

"O-Of course!" Sudo replied with an upset expression, maybe Yuichi went too far this time.

'I guess he isn't that lost...'

"Good, now you have 2 people with an unknown value, look at both lines and try to see if you can get rid of 1 person in any of the lines. Also, you can simplify the line where you can't get rid of any person" Yuichi said and waited a few minutes before Sudo finally written something down.

[2*B + C = 2.030

2/5*C = 340]

Sudo looked uncertainly towards Yuichi who just smiled and nodded his head.

"You should be able to solve everything by yourself now if you know the rules behind equations. Once you solve 1 person, others will be easy." Yuichi said and Sudo sighed in desperation before burying his head into his textbook, trying to solve everything else by himself.

After more than 7 minutes, he finally showed his textbook to Yuichi.

[2*C = 1700

C = 850

2*B + 850 = 2.030

B = 590

A = B + 120

A = 710]

'Thank god! I don't know what I would have to do if he did something wrong...' Yuichi sighed in relief before giving Sudo a thumb up.

Both Miyake and Hasabe who was watching the entire process couldn't help but smile, holding in the laugh when they saw Yuichi's relieved expression.

"Thanks, Iwamura...It wasn't that bad." Sudo said with a faint smile, having the feel of success in him made him happier before Yuichi dropped the bomb.

"Good, now let's move onto something harder" Yuichi said with a bright smile and closed eyes.

"H-Harder?!" Sudo exclaimed with a disbelieving expression.

"Of course, that was the easiest math problem from the mock test. We will go probably until mid-difficulty, there is no need for you to know how to solve complicated math problems yet." Yuichi said.

"...Yet?" Sudo muttered as the corner of his mouth started twitching.

"Of course, don't tell me that you thought that this math problem was one of the hardest out there, haha. We still have a long way in front of us and I am not letting you out of here until you learn everything." Yuichi laughed and said with a bright smile which made Hasabe and Miyake look at each other with surprised expressions before they faintly smiled.

"Oho? So you will keep me here, huh?" Sudo said with an amused smile while rolling up his sleeves.

"Heh, try me" Yuichi glanced at him and snickered.

'Letting him have a taste of success and mood is immediately better. Let him understand something he never understood and he will think that studying might even be fun, though it is very short feeling, very similar to adrenaline.' Yuichi thought with a faint smile.

This is something Horikita would never be able to do...She only sees the goal in front of her and she never truly thinks how to get to that goal. Yuichi is aware of Sudo's opinion on studying so instead of forcing him to study, at first, he is trying to set the right mood and slowly improve Sudo's opinion about studying.

"Still, Iwamura, I don't get why you put so much effort into studying...Don't you want to become a professional basketball player? I also think that I have learned today more than enough to get through the midterm when it comes to math." Sudo said after another hour of studying.

The whole group was mostly quietly studying the entire hour but when someone wasn't sure about anything, everyone tried to input their thoughts.

"I want but where is it written that anyone will take me into the team? Where is it written that I won't be injured before becoming one? It's good to have some kind of back-up plan. Of course, I admit that knowledge you learn at school is usually useless in the outside world but school teaches you how to use your brain and not to apply when "that" guy wrote "that" book and when he died. I completely agree that it's completely irrelevant when we are learning about someone's life who is already dead but you should at least have a basic knowledge. No need to know everything but at least know his name and in which century he lived. The past is what forms the future, from humans' mistakes and accomplishments." Yuichi replied

"Hmm..." Sudo just hummed to acknowledge hearing Yuichi's words but he never really replied. He just kept reading Yuichi's notes.
