Chapter 31: Finding a Clue Pt. 1

Now alone in the crowd, l decided to get away for a bit. Trying to process everything that has happened so far.

I maneuvered through the crowd, and made it to the hallways where it was complete dimness and emptiness. No one seem to be lingering here no guests nor Butlers or Maids. It was kind of strange to me but I kind of figured it was like this due to the recent events that happened.

My parents didn't want anyone peaking into their personal affairs especially with their being a new Seamstress. So, I can see why they would limit people to only certain parts of the house.

I carefully crept down the hallway trying not to make much noise and when I reached the mid-point of it I slumped down to the wall. I ruffled the sides-of my up-did hair and cocked my head a little, finally having time to myself, to realize all that happened.

So Charles got a promotion because he helped my family raise the wine sales. Furthermore, my mother is apparently not upset with him about the whole "Going on the Forbidden Balcony Situation". Sir.Bertram has taken a liken to me and might even make me in the interest of a Suitor. Okay wow that's something, not to mention his sister Lady.Bellum is suspicious of me. For some reason, maybe she is trying to figure out

what 's actually going in this estate? Yeah probably. Definitely wanting my downfall hundred percent. Ughh.

I tilted my head back with pure defeat. I glanced at the wall, looking down and then looking back up with a sudden realization. "Wait isn't this-!" I stood up and walked to the slightly unpainted wall and peeled off the parts where the paint was barely on it and that's when I seen the portrait... I didn't notice at first but this was one of the main halls Rene' stayed in.. Well, when she was here of course..I continue to stare at the half covered portrait and tears welled in my eyes. "This was her hallway. They-they're to erase her, they're trying to paint over this portrait?!"

I stepped back with my eyes wide and I covered my mouth, slowly counting three. I wiped the water out of my eyes and shook my head going into a face of neutral. I wasn't about to get caught, not today. Not right now.

I took another deep breath and stepped in a slanted position, walking nine steps back. Clank, my back hit a door and I knew this was her room. So, I turned around and turn the knob of an unlock door.

I took a few steps forward, shaking my head in a bit of confusion to why the door was unlocked. "Huh? Unlocked I was sure I wouldn't get in here so easily, knowing that this area is supposed to be-!" I switched on the light switch, which was way brighter compared to the hallway I was in. So I gently rubbed my eyelids adjusting to the new brightness and when I seen how the room looked like my stomach felt sick.

I stumbled back seeing the knocked over selves, pulled out dressers, and ripped up letters. The room had been ransacked, it looked the same as a junkyard and the more I continue to see, the more nauseous I felt.

Obviously I wasn't the first one to be in here. Someone was looking for something. But who? And why?
