Chapter 25: Rebecca's class activity

As Nelson had said. All subjects have abided by his instructions. The whole class was rearranged for the sake to their Summoning Class.

It was three days after that fiasco, currently they are attending their Magic Language period now. Surprisingly their advisor was a little accommodating today and was not very strict like on the usual days.

She allowed everyone to choose their seats and discuss other subjects as long as the content is somehow relevant to their topic. Usually she gets really angry when she hears someone not paying attention about her subject. Though understandable, she rules this class with iron chains.

That all said, everyone was on a field day with these little mercies. Everyone is exceptionally relaxed about the subject. That was all until Ms. Rebecca made them group in accordance with their Summoning Class's arrangements.

As previously said by Leila, some groups were a concentration of many smart students. Each of them have their own logics and specialties, on the type of activity that Rebecca asked for they are sure to shine.

The activity for today was a quiz. Each group will be given a small white board to write their answers with. They are to translate a sentence given by their teacher into a magic language. Afterwards one of the group members is to perform the spell out of the translated sentence in order to see the effects of their answer. Points are given in accordance to the effectiveness of their translations.

Once again Leila, Harvey, Khelly, Ryan and Sophie is on the same spot. On virtue of democracy, they all agreed to have Harvey to face all public affairs such as getting instructions, talking to the teachers and etc.. It was a unanimous decision that everyone agreed on(except Harvey of course).

Leila is not very excited with the activity. It's a simple matter to her, so no challenge at all. If she took all the work, how will her team learn? So she just decided that if their score is too low for her liking, only then she will personally answer a few rounds to salvage the group. Though she will not answer at least once to make everything a little fair.

Though she has to make sure that Khelly will be answering at least a fourth of the questions, the blond needs to do so to appease the former goddess with her offense yesterday. The rest of the remaining questions will be distributed according to who will be pointed by their spinning bottle. Everyone will get their turn, Leila made the Mana manipulate if someone is always chosen and others were not.

"So who will be the first to answer?" Harvey said as they all put on a serious face. All of them are focusing on the bottle in the hands of Harvey.

Their set up was very unusual, everyone was watching them with questions. All students were wrecking their brains to send their best teammate out and determining the sequence afterwards. Not to mention the activity is almost starting, but that group actually has the nerve to play spin the bottle in this type of environment. So everyone is naturally a little curious about what they are doing.

Some of those groups were dissing them on the side. Some just ignored them in favour of their own team's welfare. It was a curious sight, but the people in question were having a battle of nerves with the bottle.

The group (except Leila) was praying not to be pointed. They can be the second, third and so forth, but no one wants to be the first one to go. Who wants to bear the pressure of scoring high or low for everyone? Seriously none of them wanted that. With the situation at hand, someone has to be a sacrifice.

If Leila were to choose by herself, she would send Khelly, but the girl in question is not confident with the subject. Harvey is fine, but he doesn't like being a sacrifice again. She herself doesn't want to go first because it's boring and the other two are just scared to be blamed or be a target of the rest of the class.

Though the reason why their group particularly resisted being the first to answer actually laid to Leila herself than the pressure that being the leading answerer bears.

Yesterday Leila thoroughly gave all her group mates a simple review about Magic and it's language. Prior to that they all agreed that each and everyone of them are to learn with the other's specialized subjects.

Their teacher Nelson has emphasized that they are to learn skill from their teammates, but with their group that it is impossible for them to do so until the weekend.

Leila passed the entrance exam with her wilderness survival, Harvey was combat skill, Khelly with cooking, Ryan with bomb assemble and disassemble(don't ask why he knew that) and Sophie with her exquisite make up skills( she can make you look someone else entirely). Sophie can teach them in between classes, but for the rest. Please they ought to look for a suitable venue to showcase all that.

Which brings them to plan an impromptu travel to the nearest mountain this Friday. They will stay there for 3 nights and 2 days before going down and heading straight to the school.

With the given unusual situations with their unique skill sets, they opt to learn whatever one is most proficient with to utilize their time effectively.

So they wasted no time doing so. They arranged a group study that will have them take turns teaching everyone during breaks and after school. Furthermore they got to bond with each other during their study sessions. Only drawback was that when Leila teaches she wanted perfection, leading to Khelly being a target of Leila's ire. The blond didn't take the session seriously, the reason why the former goddess was angry at the girl for a while.

Obviously the rest of the group don't want to earn the irritation of the black haired girl more than they already do. If they somehow mess up in answering the question, won't that be inviting Leila to supervise them again?

Going first and embarassing themselves is not an option at all! That is just to nerve wrecking on various levels. Leila forbids them to be lousy and weak with her teaching them the subject. It will just make her too determined to make them master the subject faster.

Without any warning Harvey spun the bottle with such force that it only needed a little more force for it to hover above their table. Everyone had their breath on hold as they stared at the outcome of the bottle's spin. Most of them wish that it won't point to them.

After a few seconds, the bottle finally stopped and it pointed at Harvey. The others heave a heavy sigh as their wishes and prayers are answered.

Harvey on the other hand wanted to protest, but he remembered that he was the one who spun it in the first place. Was he supposed to be angry at himself for spinning it too perfectly back at him? No he won't, but he could only lament his consistent bad luck that he acquired ever since he was 8.

The rest of the order of people next was arranged in a peaceful manner.

Rebecca saw all that bizarre way of choosing their lot and was quite amused with it. Their approach was unusual, given the rigid environment of this school, it was a refreshing sight for her that she let them be. She even waited for them to finish their game before she ushered everyone to give their attention to her.

Unknown to the students this quiz has multiple hidden intents. One was to punish them for not respecting their teacher(Nelson), her wanting to test them and the school demanding an evaluation for each class. Their current activity is in fact a little advance in their current topic.

Their quiz was a disaster in the making. At a glance, Rebecca could assess her students' level of mastery. Most of them have literally transcribed the sentence she gave, making the student who was tasked to materialize it suffer some inconvenience. Though it was not as good as she wanted them to be, she just needed to revise her lesson plan for the next two days. Suppose that the higher ups are satisfied with the current level of their students.

But she was rather surprised with the group who chose their line up with a bottle. They are quite decent, although some of their translations were quite rough. Surprisingly they didn't call upon weird magics. It makes her look at them favourably.

Seeing their mastery, she decided to distribute these kids over the other groups to promote learning together. Saving both her time and effort in teaching.

If the group of Leila were to hear that they would probably cry with tears of joy. Maybe they will also start worshiping Rebecca until the next good teacher will show themselves to these poor students.

But unfortunately they can't read minds, they can only live in fear that they will always be in the constant presence of Leila. Which is so scary now that the other is determined to make them well learnt.

The quiz continued on with them winning by a landslide. It can't be helped if they did, Leila had to answer at least two times. All those turns scores them a perfect while the other group only gets scores a little above average.

It was a fun activity in Leila's opinion. In addition to knowing her team's current ability with the language of Magic, she gets to know the interesting reactions of Mana whenever a wrong word was made.

Magic Language is a very special language. To the Mana it's like a lyrics that they needed to make a music with, while to humans it's a tool to make magic spells. This relation is very symbiotic, both necessary for each partner to grow(Mana) and to learn(Human) about magic.

Every good dictation, pronunciation, and wording of a magic word causes reaction to the surrounding mana. Alongside with their elemental affinity, everyone has different sorts of results.

In the eyes of Leila who sees the whole process, it was an unexpected find. She first observed it whenever her parents used their Magic, but she never got to see others perform magic up close. It made her very interested in the reactions and made her feel a little itchy to make some experiments.

Holding herself back with a deep breath, Leila knew her new project in the evenings. She would like to have it by the weekend but with the planned trip, she obviously can't have that. So the evening is. Hopefully her parents wouldn't mind the mess she will make later.
