Chapter 38: Opps! 2

The Elka Antelope was attracted to Ryan when the rock hit it. The attack was not really damaging to the beast. But it disturbed it's momentum. And that made him a target to its anger.

Ryan dismissively thought that he might have the potential to be a tank. That throw was not even intended to actually hit it! He just wanted to participate somehow, but he end up hitting the bullseye anyway.

Only that he is just clearly too weak to be one. A dumb move now that he had to run for his life once again. And he definitely needs to gather all his energy in avoiding the beast's attacks. It is aiming to kill them at any given opportunity, and he don't want too be the first casualty.

He led it to the first trap. It was from the leftover they used for the main trap. It was also designed to explode. Just not very strong, but enough to annoy and deal some damage once in a while. An attempt he really don't like to repeat. Heaven knows how much trouble it will bring him should it will be known to his family.

"Khelly any help please!" Ryan shouted as he threw a punch that had missed. Three of the mini traps he made had already exploded. Another three more and he doesn't have anything else to surprise the beast.

"Okay!" Khelly said as he she made the filled the craters from with water. Some were deep, deep enough to drown someone. She's hoping that the Antelope will fall to one of them and deter it as much as possible. Wishful thinking, but who knows it will be helpful later.

And it was. Ryan fell to one of the 'puddles' and the beast did not pursued the boy anymore. Though the chubby boy was left swimming to the edges to save his dear life.

Khelly was the next on that the beast targeted. They were chasing each other. Urgency is evident to the girl, but it thrilled her immensely.

Despite the tense situation, the girl is still playful as she had always been. She was enjoying the rush that is filling her being. She even have time to run her mind wild. And as if she remembered something she turned around and aimed target the beast.

"Nwatr." Khelly chanted as she aimed her index finger to the Antelope. Green mana concentrated into its tips and then shot out like a bullet. As it left from her control she added. "Pàsén".

The concentration of green mana was then coated with blue mana. The fusion seems to harden the sphere. And making accelerate faster than before.

"If you have something like that you should have said it earlier!" Ryan said as he run for his life when the beast was missed. He just came out from the water and as preparing to give his assistance. But luck was not really good to him for this day. The 'bullet' is nearing him as he just came back to his feet. It will kill him if he don't move. Impromptu.

The mana had contact with the ground and left another crater. It was dangerous to be hit by that one. And it was even silent when it left such damage.

The boy is having grudges over the lack of information of the the blond's capabilities and skills. They could have lessen the time and effort if they were informed of having an attack at this caliber. The boy wouldn't have to risk fiddling over the bombs parts and materials that he should not be touching yet. Imagine when his mother get to hear about it! He'll be grounded for at least a year!

"Opps!" Khelly exclaimed as the Antelope is chasing her now. Her lips were in am upward curve, adrenaline now coursing her veins."It slip out of my mind! I don't use them often enough after all!"

Leila shot another arrow when the beast almost pound the blonde.

"Concentrate." Was all Leila said as she aimed one of the beast's legs.

That was only one word. But somehow the two children felt coldness in their bones. They knew they angered their resident little teacher.

Seemingly aware that if they continue to play this game of chase, the beast stopped it's attacks and promptly run to another direction. It's planning to flee.

Realizing that the three made sure to cover all possible escape path they can. No way they will tolerate making their prey escape after all this time. Their efforts gone and their final objective lost too? Never!

So with more energy and power than before, they played the beast like a sheep with its shepherd dog guiding them there direction. Cornering it while leading it to the main trap they set up earlier.

As a creature of mana the Elka Antelope was, is is naturally very sensitive to its surrounding. But at the moment it is currently very spent to notice minute details of its environment. If it was in its peek or at least in its normal state, traps of this kind easy to evade. It wasn't even hidden quite well even by the students' standards. So that's how they get to lead it to their desired area.

When it finally fell into the main trap, it was severely hit. It's hind legs broken and bleeding. It was crying in pain, looking all pitiful.

Khelly a naive girl she is, was feeling sympathy over it. She even had the urge to go near and heal it. But she remembered she was one of the reasons why it is on this condition. What else could she do for it when she was the one who aimed for its life earlier?

"Don't look at it on its eyes." Leila told them as she threw a dagger tp Ryan to make the final blow. She saw the glint inside the eyes of the blond, she's questioning the this whole act itself. So from that look, the former goddess knew she cannot make the girl kill the beast.

"Do it fast before it will attract something we cannot bear to confront with." Leila cautioned them. Knowing fully well that her companions are not used to taking lives of other creatures, she hasten them. The forest is dangerous, it's either to kill or be killed. Her team needs to come in terms with that as early as they can.

She really hoped they learn of this very core. The world is not a very kind place. And this act is in fact more kinder than what most people does to their fellow men.

Ryan was trembling when he slit the beast's neck. He killed a living creature. His first kill and he's feeling mixed feelings.

"Collect the horns as your proof of your first hunt." Leila said. " Let us be fast and drain the blood. We need to leave as fast as possible—"

As she said those words, a shadow was casted upon their forms. Goosebumps rising from their skins. Another beast is here to challenge the hunters for its prey.

Khelly and Ryan turn pale when they saw the intruder's appearance. It's huge eagle with feathers of various shades of green. It is flying above them eyeing the carcass of the dead Elka Antelope they just killed.

"Damn it!" Leila cursed. She surveyed the area before they selected the Elka Antelope as their prey. No dangerous beast is ought to show up after they were done of their hunt because most of them should be scared away from their commotions. Her party cannot take this eagle at all in their current level.

" Reibās!" Leila casted over their area.

A dome of white sheltered them afterwards. It repealed the upcoming talons of the eagle. But it wasn't able to block the aftershock of the attack.

Leila was not taking chances now and put her party behind her mind. She left the dome after she gave the two a restriction spell. She won't allow them to be harmed in any way.

With practiced ease, she aimed the eagle with dead accuracy. Each arrow aiming to inflict pain and scars. But the feathers of the beast is very tough. It barely make any difference.

The former goddess doesn't want to kill it. She just wanted to scare it off. But this predator is persistent and very resilient. Again and again the two—a girl and a bird fell into a strange dance.

Ryan and Khelly watch it all with awe. But puzzled why Leila was not taking it down the fastest speed as she was teaching them.

They watch as Leila no ran out of arrows. The beast having prominent power as if death is coming for the black haired girl. Only instead of becoming passive, the girl became more aggressive now that her weapon is no longer usable.

Spells of various magnitude were unleashed. Things that children of their age should not know yet, but wielded masterly by a mare fourteen years old. AN unbelievable sight that are usually just told in legends of old.

They went one for a while before the eagle decided that the prey is not worth it. It flew away like it wasn't even there in the first place. Only leaving strong gust of winds as an indicator of its previous presence.

Grandpa Rodleo clapped his hands as he praised the children's well done job. He didn't joined the fray to see their worth. Besides his presence is a threat itself to the beast in this area should they find his existence. His whole body reeks of many beasts' blood after many years of hunting them.

If he went on and saved them when the eagle showed up, he wouldn't see their reactions towards unexpected scenarios. Though he was a little disappointed with the two city children's reaction towards the eagle, he just suppose it's better that they didn't try to disturbed the battle. It is a feat that most hot-blooded teens are not very proficient in applying most of the times.

But a frown is marring his brows. That eagle is not a native in this area of the valley. It's nest was on the west side of the forest, nearest to the lake of Lola where cliffs were nearby. And normally it's hunting area was with the vicinity of its nest.

He have to take note of it and gather the villagers to be wary of anything strange within the forest. He's afraid that this year's beast tide will be a different from the usual. As he scanned the area just now, beast and animals that should be on their territories in the heart of the valley is lingering over the edges of the training grounds for young hunters. It is definitely an abnormality worth to be alarmed with.
