A Prophecy

The first thing I did the next morning was apologize to Ruby. Surprisingly she forgave me without protest I guess she knew what happened the night before but I wasn't about to bring that up. Even more surprisingly she decided to stay home the rest of the week. We played games laughed ran every night. It was great! Dad even softened up on Uncle Rhy. I don't know why he was so hard on him before. No more trouble all week. We had a wonderful time as a family.

One problem Pops and Uncle Rhy won't say anything about why Mom was so bent on taking me to see them. The week is up today and I haven't learned anything!

"So Pops, Uncle Rhy... this has been one of the best weeks of my life.... but.... you still haven't...." Pops cuts me off.

"Told you about your mother." He finishes for me. I nod at him.

"Alic!" Ruby whisper yells at me. She has tried to avoid anything that would upset them... she actually seems to like them now.

"Its ok Ruby." Pops says smiling at her. She backs down. "We haven't said anything because as soon as we provide the information your Alpha is likely to send us packing."

"So" Uncle Rhy continues "we decided to wait untill our week was up... as soon as your father comes home we will tell all."

We played cards until Dad got home. I'm actually pretty good at this now. Apparently their pack plays alot. They said some kid from Michigan ended up there, taught them and well it stuck. I am so excited. I'm finally going to get some answers!

Dad wasn't gone very long. Thanks to our guests he tries to be home as much as possible. I can't wait. I am bouncing up and down at the door when he gets home.

"Well hi Alic!" Dad says when he sees me eagerly waiting. I pull him into the living room where everyone in lounging.

"Come on!" I yell at him. He is not moving fast enough! I need to know about my mom!

"What's the rush pup?" He asks chuckling at my frustration.

"I think he wants us to start talking." Uncle Rhy says as we reach them.

"Finally gonna give us the information you promised?" Dad asks.

"We got our week and are men of our word." He responds. "Pops why don't you explain."

Dad sits in one chair the Delta in the other. Uncle Rhy and Pops sit on the couch between the chairs. Ruby and I are seated cross legged on the floor staring at Pops awaiting his words.

"Well your mother, my daughter, was bringing you to see us." Pops says to me then pauses and looks out the window. "Clayton do you know what seers are?"

"Crack pots who think they can see the future. Nut bags the lot of them. Nothing they say makes sence. Then they make a vague prediction that could mean anything and call themselves prophets." Dad says.

"Most of the time that is the case." Pops agrees. "However in my youth I met a family that truly have a gift. I trusted them enough to alow them to stay in my pack. True seers."

"So let me get this straight the "important information" you have for us is from a crazy person!?" Dad yells. This has quickly turned hostile.

"Abby belied it." Pops says. No one ever uses Moms name its always your mom or Clay's mate. Hearing her name makes me miss her even more. "That's why she was bringing Alic. She was good friends with one of the girls in the seer family. She gave Abby a prophecy that shook her. Your mother believed it has to do with you Alic."

"How?... I mean... what is the prophecy about?" I'm not sure I want to know. In every book I've read prophecies don't end well for the one in them. Pain and an early death that's what prophecies give you.

"Over the past twenty years the prophecies have been building on one central topic... the Alpha King of all werewolves." Pops says and my jaw drops.

"What makes you think it's him?" Dad asks

"We didn't." Uncle Rhy says. "I mean anything is possible but Abbs was convinced once she heard the last bit."

"And I'm not as doubtful as I was when she came to us. He fits more of the older prophecies now." Pops adds.

"What exactly do they say?" I ask. I can tell Dad in unconvinced but I'm curious.

"Well the first one just stated that the Alpha king would come." Uncle Rhy says.

"The next said once dead he would return home." Pops laughs. "I thought they had lost their touch when I heard that one... that is untill you called us Alic. You were dead... legally and to all of us and you returned home."

"Then it was about his lineage. A true Beta from an Alpha's seed." Uncle  Rhy continues. "Clayton- true Beta, Abby- Alpha seed. It adds up."

"What brought her home was when they predicted an oddity in his bearth. The Alpha king would be born on the day of the equinox under a full moon." Pops says. I look to my Dad and he is shaking his head.

"I'll admit it is compelling... but Seriously?! She thought a two year old was a king? Its ridiculous!" He yells

"Some of these predictions were made before Alic was born. I know it sounds crazy but it is possible." Pops says. He looks at me mournfully. "It says that you or he will become an Alpha as a result of great pain. The change will be out of necessity. For his own survival... it made me wonder if your mother's death may have triggered it... how else could a little pup survive that?" I look away.

"Mom saved me... I had nothing to do with it... I'm not an Alpha... I'm not even sure how good a Beta I'll be!" I protest. No way! I am not cut out to be an Alpha let alone the King of Alphas!

"How do you know?" Uncle Rhy asks. "Have you ever tried to use an Alpha command? I mean that's the easiest way to see if a kid got his fathers Alpha so why not with the King Alpha?"

"I. AM. NOT! AN. ALPHA!" I say again. I can't issue an Alpha comand because I'm not one.

"Try." Dad says. I look to him confused. No way he believes this! "It can't hurt and it will settle things."

Everyone is staring at me. What do they expect! Am I going to start levitating! I am me! Just me! Nothing special here!

"Come on pup. Just give it a shot. No matter what we love you." My uncle says. I take a deep breath.

"How?" I ask. I mean seriously how do you issue an Alpha comand? How is it different from any other order an Alpha gives. I mean I know it is I've felt it but i don't know how.

"You focus your power and force it into your voice... like this!" Uncle Rhy looks to his Delta and winks at me grinning. "GET UP!" The delta jumps out of the chair and stands at attention. "Try to make him sit."

I look at the man standing there. I pull myself up and stand facing him. He is much taller than me and stronger. No way I can make him do anything.

"Sit down." I say weakly.

"Confidence Alic! Power. You have to want him to do it." Uncle Rhy pushes "try again." I look back at the larg man. With a deep breath I gather all I have in me.

"SIT DOWN!" I order.

I turn away from him and walk to the door. This sucks!

"Alic wait." Uncle Rhy grabs my shoulder.

"What!?" I yell at him turning around. "What do you want now!?... I did as you asked and made a fool of myself! Nothing happened! And Mom... she died for nothing too." I went from a yell to a whisper in one rant. Mom died because she thought I was special. She was wrong. "I'm going to bed."

"Its only 3 o'clock." Ruby says.

"I don't care! I'm done with today! I'm going to bed!" I run upstairs and slam my door. Uncle Rhy can take the couch tonight I want to be alone.

About a hour later I hear the door open.

"Go away!" I groan not looking to see who it is.

"Is that any way to talk to your Alpha?" I sit up straight to see Alpha Lilly.

"Sorry Alpha." I mumble.

She moves over to me and sits on the edge of my bed. She pats beside her and I move to the spot.

"Your Mom was a good friend of mine." She says smiling at me and moving my hair out of my face. "She loved you... she did what she thought she had to do."

"She was wrong about me and was killed for thinking I was something... I'm nothing." I respond and she wraps an arm around me.

"You are not nothing. You are strong and brave. You may not be some Alpha King but that is no different from who you were yesterday is it?" She asks.

"I guess not." I mumble. I didn't even want to be a king. But Mom...  "but she thought I was." I tell her.

"Maybe... but I tell you one thing. She would be proud of you. Her bright little boy. A survivor and all the stronger for it. You are special Alic. Important... to your father, your sister, your family, Aaron and I, the boys, the pack, you are important and we all love you." She says.

"Thank you Alpha." I look at her. I don't think I've ever really talked to Alpha Lilly before. I guess because I'm in Alpha Aaron's pack I just always went to him but she's my Alpha too.

"Come on." Alpha Lilly stands up offering me her hand. "Your family leaves tomorrow. You can't mope up here all evening. Let's get some dinner."

I take the hand and go downstairs. We eat well and Alpha Lilly leaves. After dinner we all go off to bed. I take my place on the couch. Shortly after everyone is in bed I feel someone sit at my feet. I look up to see Uncle Rhy staring at me.

"We need to talk." He says and I sit up.

"What now?" I ask yawning.

"Don't dismiss the prophecy so soon... your mom was convinced and I've never known her to be wrong... you may not be Alpha yet but that doesn't mean you won't be... one thing I didn't say earlier. The Alpha king will be like the first Alpha, insanely powerful. The power from every Alpha who died without an heir will funnel into him. If you find out you are him... your Alphas may not accept you. So if you become our king and things get dicey over here come to my pack. I'll keep you safe and train you to be a great Alpha. Even if you aren't him come visit your cousins would love to meet you." I just nod at him...what do you say to that? "Goodnight Alic." He says as he stands up.

"Night Uncle Rhy." I respond and drift off to sleep.

"The boy! We need the boy!"

I cry into my mother's shoulder as she runs.

"Shhhh.. baby it will be ok."

"Just kill her and take the boy!"

I feel myself skid across the pavement. Looking down my shirt is shredded. I feel pain through my entire body. My blood soaks my shirt as I scream for my mommy. She picks me up and begins running again. She places me on the back of a truck.

"Hold on tight Alic... I love you... don't forget who you are. You are a king."

Mommy turns and runs back the way we came. The truck roars to life and pulls away.

"Mommy!" I call but the engine cancels out my voice. I hear her crying out in pain as the wolves attack. Eventually she falls to the ground. I can't stop crying.

My arms go numb as do my legs. I am shaking and I lose my grip falling onto the street.

"Mommy..." I whimper longing for her to hold me. My chest feels sticky. It hurts I... I... Darkness consumes me.

"Wake up Alic!" Ruby  plops down on top of me.

My chest is burning. I've never heard her speak in my dreams before. Those men they were after me. She really thought it was about me.

"Are you ok?" She asks looking worried.

"Yea... bad dreams... it's all good!" I ignore her concerns.

"Well then get up! Pops and Uncle Rhy are leaving." She says.

We see them off. I'm gonna miss them. The last thing my uncle told me before they left was simply "remember what I said." He still believes I am to be king. You know what I'm 12... I'm not going to worry about it. We shall see what the future holds.
