"Well if you didn't know, all submittable work at Sunnies Reach can be remotely done, you just have to request so. The building frankly just for show and tell, and for tax filings… I've been told." Eiichi rested his head on my thighs, smiling like a fool at me. I shot up quickly.
"What!" I screamed at the top of my lungs and attracted the unsavoury stares of passersby.
----------
I swung my manager's glass doors wide open and stomped into his office. He was busy drawing something with a perplexed expression on his soft features. Park Daisuke's expression went from surprise to irritation as soon as he recognized me.
"We could work remotely, all this time, and you made us come early to work..."
"Honk. Honk." He made the squeezing sign with his right hand while he stared straight at me. His lips were pursed, and his eyes were shiny and widened.
"Ah… Where are my manners? I will be in the cubical if you have the time to talk Mr. Park Daisuke, manager sir." I shut his door quickly, and I scurried off to my table to die a million deaths. But I swore I saw the corners of his lips turn up in amusement. Could he be enjoying mocking me?
Today Park Daisuke called a surprise meeting, so I couldn't fake being ill right after being perfectly fine a few seconds before. I scuttled to sit at the back of the group so I could hide. If I couldn't see him and he couldn't see me, then I could keep pretending like nothing ever happened.
"You might be wondering why I've called this meeting." He crossed his legs in his armchair. Ugh, who sits in an armchair at the office, he was so vain. The rest of us were sitting in uncomfortable plastic chairs; I was sure my ass would turn to stone. "And no, it's not to inform you that we will be getting a cappuccino machine. Buy your own damn coffee." He turned to look at an employee who bowed his head in embarrassment. "In 3 weeks we will be going on a bonding excursion." He looked like he was going to barf when he said the word 'bonding'.
The room rumbled with mummers and confusion. Why all of a sudden were we going on a bonding trip?
"Silence. If you are curious as to why this is happening. Those above me think I'm not transparent enough with my subordinates and think I should take this opportunity to bond with you lot." He winced again. "And to thank for this shitty...I meant sudden development, we have Ho Mizuki." He got off his seat and waved at me in the back… Fuck! What did I do? When did I do it? And why would I even do this? I struggled to get up on my feet as the entire room shifted to look at me in the back. I shouldn't have sat here, I could literally see everyone staring at me.
I finally got up and waved shyly. Was this my punishment for...honking? I didn't remember reporting him for anything, I didn't even know where the human relations department was; there were over 20 floors in the damn building.
"...Hi," I muttered quietly.
"Why don't you come forward, don't be shy." Park Daisuke smiled and blinked his eyes coyly.
I will poison you one day, Park Daisuke. It will be my last mission, I swear it. "What is going on Park Daisuke, sir?" I whispered low enough for only him to hear me.
"I should be the one asking you that, it seems you have a lot to say about my way of managing." He whispered back.
"I didn't report you," I whispered back sharply.
"Yet, here we both are." He turned and did the honking sign. Fuck this, how long was he going to hold that against me. Was that why he blamed me for this.
"I was asleep, I apologized already for that," I whispered. But Park Daisuke turned his attention back to wide-eyed and perplexed employees, all seated staring confused at us.
"Mizuki will be my assistant during the trip, as it was her idea. She'll be my second in command for this brief moment. Think of this as a little break, but never forget that all the work you didn't do during the trip will be pilling up and waiting for you when you return." He smiled at the groaning employees and turned back to me. "And we can all thank Ho Mizuki for this little kink in the workflow. You are all dismissed."
The employees rose to their feet and exited the hall room, kissing their teeth, eyeing and swearing at me. I didn't do anything, he is setting me up, don't listen to him. He is the devil, the devil I tell you. After the room had cleared, I practically jumped on Park Daisuke. "I didn't do anything," I growled.
"Honk. Honk. You've done plenty." I grabbed his hands and stared him in his face.
"That's getting really old sir." He rolled his eyes and shook me off.
"What do you want, Ho Mizuki? I was sure that would chase you away as usual."
"First off, I want to apologize for all that has happened, I'm to blame, whatever. But putting this on me is unfair, I never reported you. I ask that you clarify with the others that you were wrong." He sat back in his chair and cocked his head, confused as a kitten.
"Aren't you the gift that keeps on giving. You are just chuck-full of advice." He smiled coyly, "now, who should I tell I was wrong?" He looked around for something, then picked up what I think was an imaginary pen and notebook. "Should I take notes? You may begin." He smiled dryly at me. The insufferable fuck.
"I...I don't know all their names, but everyone that was in here." I fisted my hands.
He sighed then clicked the imaginary pen. "I'm sorry no one in my department goes by that name, but feel free to report me some more to human relations." He rose up and brushed past me. His shiny shoes clicked away behind me.
"What a child. What a baby faced twerp, with squishy cheeks and stupid perfect hair. Man-child is what he is." I slammed my beer mug on the table.
"Are you angry with Daisuke or not?" Eiichi reached out to take the beer from me.
"No. No. Fuck him. He sucks. You know, when he was buying me lunch, I thought… hmm maybe he isn't such a bad guy. But I must have been b...blind, he is the devil Eiichi, the devil." I took another swig from my mug and face planted on the table. "I'm going to make him suffer on this trip, I'll make him suffer."
"I'm sure you will. Why don't we slow down with the drinking." Eiichi gently pulled the glass from my hands. I'll make the world see him for what he truly is, an escaped asylum patient that needs to be locked up. With the keys thrown away. No one would think you are so great when you look crazy as fuck. I then giggled maniacally to myself.
"Winter is coming, Park Daisuke. You better not be caught unawares." he, he, he, he, he. Barf!
