Chapter 4

David

I thought about last night how I chased her around the hall to take the phone from her but damn she was fast.

First I watched a movie on a workday and now I am chasing her around the house. Why am I doing this? That's so unlikely of me.

I chased around and then I finally got hold of her. I caught hold of her waist as she was giggling. That was the fastest laugh I have heard. I try to take her phone. In between the snatching of the phone, the rug underneath my feet shift and she slipped. I fell on the couch and she fell above me.

Suddenly this tension filled the room. She gazed at me with her big dark blue eyes. I was closely examining her face. I have never been this close to her. She had smooth, soft skin. Her eyebrows curved in swooping arches over her eyes. Her long pointed nose and tender pink lips had a tinge of the lipstick she was wearing earlier but it was her eyes that drew my attention. Her eyes sparkled like storm clouds right before lightning hit.

Her eyes were like the stars that lightened up the night sky. It had the hope and the fire of spirit which exhibited her strength and that she won't give up. As soon as her gaze met mine I couldn't take them away.

We were connected by just looking at her eyes. I fight back the urge to kiss her. I don't even know if she feels the same. I don't know how to explain what I was feeling. For a few moments she was above me we were looking into each other eyes and then she got off me and awkwardly smiled at me.

"Good night." Then we went off to our respective rooms to sleep. I laid on my bed looking up at the ceiling because I couldn't sleep. Did I do a mistake not kissing her? Should I have kissed her? I will never know. I stared at the ceiling, smiling. I couldn't get my mind off what happened.

Ava left for The Blitz. I had already taken a shower. I wear my white shirt and blue vest. I wear my shoes and watch and left. Like a normal day, I took my car to the office and reached work. I gave my car keys to the guard and he took my car to the parking lot.

I took up the stairs and the receptionist greeted me. I greet her back and took the lift up. I went straight into my office waiting. My coffee was ready on the table. I drank some of it and then I gazed out of the window and then I heard a knock.

"Miss Ava is here Sir."

"Yes, Thank you, Miss Aria. You can leave now. I will take over from here."

As soon as I heard her leave I turned around and Ava spoke in a louder voice than usual."You."

"Hello there."

"Do you work here too? How come I didn't know of this? It will be so great. We are going to be roommates as well as work friends." She still didn't understand why she was here. She still didn't get that I was the Mr.Smith everyone talks about. Now you understand the big house and rich parents. She can be so innocent sometimes and I loved her innocence. She thinks I work here. Technically I do but I own the company.

When she said she had an interview in the Blitz. I called Chris and told him to give her the position. So I wasn't surprised when she revealed that she was offered a higher position.

And the week off because I wanted to throw her off the track so that she doesn't suspect. Also, a reason to want to know her. "You are too naive, Ava. I never told you my last name, did I?"

Confusion was written all over her face. I walk up to her and stand kn in front of her. "So are you here to see, Mr. Smith?"

"Ava Johnson, let me make you understand, Now imagine, if we never met..."

"I am still blank but go on."

"Hey Ava, Myself David Smith."

She takes a minute to process the whole thing and then she realizes.

"Fuck I am so naive. That's what Aria meant when she was saying he is handsome and everyone wants him and I was wondering isn't Richard Smith in his forties."

I laugh at this. Dad retired around three months ago. There wasn't an official announcement in the news but people in the business environment knew about this. He passed it over to me and now I am in charge of the company.

"That explains the special treatment. I can't take any more favors, David. You have already done enough." She says and there was a frown on her face. I didn't want her to work as the receptionist. I wanted her close to me. Not only that I knew she is capable of doing this.

"Hey, I just helped you out. You deserve this job. I know you won't disappoint me." Plus I would love to have you by my side.

She was thinking about whether to accept it or not. I smiled at her with pleading eyes and I knew she wouldn't deny it.

"Ok fine but I have a condition if you want me working for you."

"Do you have a thing for conditions? Anyways say, what conditions do you have now?" Every time. When I asked her to stay with me. The conditions. When I asked her to watch a movie. The condition and now I am offering a job. Again, a condition.

"You will treat me like any other employee. I shall not receive any special treatment only because I know you."

"As you wish." That was fair. I agreed to it so she wouldn't deny it.

"So Sir, what I have to do today?"

"Hey, Don't call me sir. You can call me David." I accepted the fact that she will not receive any special treatment but I won't agree to her calling me by Sir. It's not about her. I prefer everyone working to call me by my name still some people call me by Sir, Mr.Smith.

"I should be professional."

"Ok then, as your Boss I order you to call me by my name."

"You are stubborn, you know."

"Is that what you tell your boss, I can fire you." I joke about it. There was no way I am going to fire her at any cost.

"I know, you won't." She winks at me and smiles playfully. She very well knows well that I won't fire her. As much as I want to talk to her more. I have to work.

"I want you to call all the models selected for the upcoming fashion show. I want to see what they have  prepared also inform Claire to come to my office."

"Done. I will schedule it for tomorrow. Anything else."

"No, I will tell you if anything."

She leaves the room and I go back to my chair trying to concentrate on work and not think about her.

Ava

How naive was I to not have recognized him? Damn my memory. He said his full name and that's when it hit me. The pieces of the puzzle glued together. I saw him on the news with Richard Smith. New york's most wanted man by the girls.

He was the eldest son of Richard Smith. He said his parents are rich. Of course, He is the son of Richard Smith, The CEO of Blitz. How can I miss this? I am so dumb. I should have figured it out by now. Ava, you are so naive and stupid.

I leave to do the first task given to me. I enter my cabin. I notice Aria was in, all excited waiting for me sitting on the chair. As soon as she heard me she walks up to me and by the look on her face. She looked all happy and excited.

"Tell me you are added to the list of girls who have a crush on Mr. Smith."

"You mean David. No, I didn't know he took over the business. He looked a little familiar when I met him at the bar but I am so so stupid. I missed that he is Richard Smith's son." I explained to her and she looks at me. I was confused by how she looked at me. Did I say something wrong?

"You call him by his first name. No one does that except Claire. He prefers us calling him by his name but we just can't. Do you know him?" Aria was a bit surprised.

"I met him a week ago, I live with him..." Before I completed the sentence, she screams. The whole office could have heard her voice. I told her to slow down.

"Oh my God, I am freaking out now. You live with DAVID SMITH. Are you kidding me? You don't like him. Have you not seen him? You are lying." She was true. I was trying hard not to like him but couldn't. We can see that later.

"He's just helping me out. He's just a friend."

"Even if he is helping you. How can you be JUST FRIENDS with the most eligible bachelor of New york? Any girl would die for this opportunity."

Okay fine.

I tried to not have like him.

Maybe a teeny tiny crush.

Alright. I have a crush on him and I find him attractive.

Okay, okay.

I like him but no one has to know yet so I diverted the question.

"Aria can we leave this topic here and work."

"Alright. Just one question before we get back to work. Please, please, please." I nodded and she asked me.

"Have you seen him shirtless?"

"Aria, Work. Now..." I glared at her. She sighs as I feel I made her disappointed. I brought her whole mood down. After she left, I called the models who were signed for the upcoming fashion week. I was sitting on my chair dialing the numbers when Aria's words ran through my mind.

I was now imagining David shirtless. I haven't got the chance to but I can say he has a muscular body underneath those clothes. He must look hot and sexy right. What is happening to me? Am I imagining him shirtless? Focus on work.

Okay, now what next?

David, David, David.

Oh no! Aria what have you done? Now, I can only think of him. Okay, concentrate. I called the rest of the models and after lunch, I sat with David to work on the designs of the dresses that were going to be worn by the models for the fashion show. We were so engrossed with work we didn't realize that it was 9:30 when we finished.

"I didn't realize the time. Let's grab some dinner." David suggested and then we headed back home and made dinner.

It was fun spending time with him. It felt real. I never felt I just met a week ago. I was myself when I was with him.

The month passed by in a blink as we were occupied with the upcoming fashion show. We would wake up early, come to the office, and go back late at night, have dinner, and sleep because we were so exhausted working throughout the day. We worked on Sundays too. There was a lot of work to do.

I worked hard for it. This was my first big project. I was so excited and looking forward to it. Meeting so many new people and the feeling.

Undescribable

and

Exciting...

I met Claire, she was the head designer. She was really sweet, funny, and energetic and I knew we were going to be great friends.

The day was close. There were two days left for the fashion show

Everyone was waiting for Claire at the rehearsals. Claire entered and she wasn't happy. The look on her face said something else.

"I have bad news David, Amy met with an accident last night and she is in the hospital now. We need a replacement."

Oh no! This had to happen now. David got up from his chair.

As soon as Claire told us about Amy. We were all stunned. No one expected this at the last moment. She was our lead model and how will we find a replacement in two days but we should not lose hope. I tried to comfort him. David looked upset. We have been working day and night on this fashion show and I understand his worries.

"How will we find a replacement in such a short period? And even if we find out someone. How will she perform in two days? This is the worst timing ever. We don't have time."

"I will check it out. I am sure we will find someone." I tried to calm everyone down. There are many models out there. I am sure we can find somebody.

"She is our lead model and has a major role in the routine. I can't believe this is happening now. Even if we find a model and make her do the routine. We have to adjust her dress with the new model size."

David was right but we didn't have a choice. We should start looking for someone than waste time.

"I am going to look for the models now. We should not waste more time on this."

I was about to leave to find someone when Claire stopped me.

"David, I know what to do. I found our model."

"Don't tell me it's Glenda, She sucks. I am not that rude to people but she is. The last time we hired her. She forgot to walk the ramp and ruined everything. We were lucky we still won. Isn't that what models are supposed to do and she forgot to do."

David had a frown on his face. He was upset and I didn't know what to do. He always knows what to do when I am upset and here I can't do anything.

"She is standing right here, Ava."

Claire had an idea in mind. She had experience in this field. I am sure we would do something but I wasn't expecting that she wanted me to model.

When I heard my name. I was surprised. Everyone's eyes were on me now.

No, I have never done this.

No no no...

"I cannot do this. I don't have any experience and I won't be able to do this. How will I match Amy? We should look for someone else."

"There is the first time in everything. Confidence is the key. I think you can do this."

Claire tried to give me hope but it wasn't helping. There was no way I could do it. Modeling. No...

David hadn't spoken a word. His face lights up at the idea.

"That is a very nice idea. You have been watching them practice. It will be easy for you than any other new model. I BELIEVE IN YOU, AVA. You can do this. "

I was conflicted but I agreed when I heard David assert he believes in me. Something arose in me. It was the boost of confidence I needed. It gave me strength. There is a first time in everything. I can do this.

I just hope I don't mess it up because I know how important this was for David and I didn't want to be the one who screws this up. I guess I will be fine if he is by my side. "Ok fine. I will do it. Bring it on."

(So David is Ava's boss. Will this bring them closer? Ava agreed to the fashion show. Will it be a success or a failure? What happens at the fashion show?
