Chapter 21

Ava

David stood in front of the car all drenched due to rain leaving me with no choice to go out and question him. He is really stupid if he stepped out of the rain to do nothing. I stepped outside to question him. "What are you doing here out in the rain? Are you crazy? You will catch a cold. Why did you bring me here?"  He faced me looking at me as he said."You tell me."

He brought me here and he is asking me. He is gone mad.

"You brought me here and you are asking me."

"You are marrying Lucas . Do you love him?" He asked looking straight into my eyes. That was out of the blue. Why is he concerned.

"Yes, I love him." I lied. He cannot know.

He comes close to me and slowly runs his fingers down my arms. I shivered and I felt shivers down my spine. "Then why do you still react to my touch. I can feel your heartbeat fast."

I couldn't speak a word. What he did say was true? Am I that bad at acting that he came to know I was lying? "All lies. You can't lie to me, Ava. Lying doesn't suit you at all."

"What about you? You are marrying Samantha. Why are you interested in me? You have no right to question me when you are marrying Samantha." I felt the anger within me. He does think I am happy seeing him getting married to my best friend. After having to taunt me about being after money, he is here claiming that he knows me. "You still don't understand, don't you. You are still so innocent, Ava." He says looking at me. I was clueless."No, I don't understand. Kindly explain."

"Oh, Ava." Then David comes closer looking at me. He places his hand on my cheek and I look up at him. I look at his deep brown eyes I missed. I feel his touch. I should back off but I didn't. I was missing this. I looked into his eyes. There was silence for a few moments but our silence spoke volumes. We were apart for so long yet I connected to him immediately. We were standing in the rain all wet looking into each other eyes.

"It was all a setup. The engagement party. It was a trap to bring you back. All those remarks and everything. If I was getting married, don't you think that my family would be present at my engagement party. I thought you will not be able to stand the thought of me marrying someone else and then you will tell me the truth but instead, you go and ask Lucas to marry you." He sighs and I was surprised by this revelation.

"You acted very well but you can't hide it from me. I knew something was off since the moment you left. I tried to find you but you left no trace of you and then I saw Samantha at the coffee shop talking on a video call with you and then we made up a plan. Yes, Samantha is getting married but that person is not me."

I was shocked. I judged him so wrong. Yet he can't know the truth. No one knows the truth and no, this cannot happen. "I want the truth Ava, Samantha didn't tell me as she thought it is not her place to say."

"David. I might have had feelings for you before but not now. I am marrying Will. You will find someone else too." I said trying to convince him again.

David then came in closer and kissed me and I couldn't stop it. I kissed him back. I couldn't pull back. It was six years yet he still had that effect on me. He made my heart race every time. Then he placed his hands on my cheeks kissing my forehead and rested his forehead on mine. "I missed you, Ava."



I couldn't stop my tears and I couldn't resist anymore. I took him by surprise and he held me back. I snuggled my head on his strong chest. It felt so good to be in his arms again. It made me believe that things will be fine again. I can't hide it from him anymore.

"I love you so so much David. Every word I said that day felt like a dagger stabbed in my heart. It made me heartache. I wish I had a choice." I let all my feelings out. I cannot hide it anymore."What choice?" He looks confused.

I took a deep breath and continued. "Harry and Maisha made me leave. They said if I don't leave you Maisha will take over The Blitz and leave you with nothing. I didn't want to be a reason for your downfall. You worked so hard for it." Tears fall down my cheeks as I try to remember the day I left. I was shattered to have seen him cry.

"I caught Maisha a year after you left. I didn't know she blackmailed you with those papers. The papers were fake. Maisha ran away and didn't come back. The police are searching for Harry and Maisha. They have done a lot of crimes apart from this and..."  I am so so stupid. I can't believe this. If only I told all about it to David we would have been together and he would have been by my side when I gave birth to Shane.

He kisses my forehead and looks at me."You are not stupid Ava. I would have done the same if I were in your position. Since the day you left, there hasn't been a single day I didn't miss you. Every day felt like a year. Everyday doorbell made me believe you came back. Every notification or ring had me thinking it was you. I missed you so so much and now that I have you I won't leave you ever again."

I break down into tears. All those times I yearned for him he did too.

Now that I know the truth. I felt guilty to have left him and to have stolen his first moments of Shane. He had to know."I missed you too David. Every word felt like a gaping wound. It made my heartbreak when I saw you cry when I was leaving. I am so sorry David. I not only left I also hid the fact that I was pregnant. I took five years of his childhood from you."

He chuckles."I know Shane is my child. I knew it since the moment I saw him. You can't deny how similar he looks to me but he got your smile."

"I am so happy, I can't explain."

I hug him again to make myself believe. I didn't dare to blink because it felt like a dream but then he held me tight and I buried my head in his chest. I was where I belong to. Back in his arms. All of what happened isn't a dream. It was real."I love you so much, Ava. I missed you so so much. You can't even imagine."

"We need to tell Shane you are his father."

He pulls me apart and breaks into laughter. "He already knows. He approached me at the party saying I was a special person to you and there is something that tells him that I am his father."

"He is too smart. You can't get away from him. He plans to be a detective." We laughed and meeting him again didn't feel like we met after so long it seems like yesterday. That is what makes us. Now I have him again and my happiness is beyond words. He rests his forehead against mine laughing and I smiled.

"Hey Ava, Move in with me." He says with pleading eyes and his eyes sparkled with happiness.

"I will have to think."

"What?" He looks surprised and shocked and that made me laugh.

"Is that even a question? Of course, I can't wait." There it was again. My cheeks are probably red due to blushing and my cheeks hurt from smiling. I was all happy again.

"You didn't change a biiiiiit...Aachoooo..."

He sneezes out loud and I realize we were still standing in the rain. We didn't realize as we were so lost in the moment."How long were we standing in the rain?"

"Enough to catch a cold."David sneezes again and again.

"Let's go. Let me get you somewhere warm"

"I am sure you can make me warm."

He winks at me and even while sneezing he can't stop flirting.

"Classic David. Not changed a bit."

Then we both break into laughs.
