First day Jitters

"Ouch!" I cried as a guy bumped into me.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't looking at where I was going." The guy apologized as he bent down to help me pick up the books I dropped.

"It's okay," I replied, my voice almost a whisper, as I took my books back. I couldn't help but notice that how gorgeous the guy is. He has sandy brown hair and the most captivating hazel eyes I've ever seen. He's a total knockout when he smiles, I thought to myself, my heart skipping a beat. His cheekbones look like it's been sculpted, no, wait, his whole face looks like it's been sculpted to perfection."How about you, are you okay?" He asked.

I just nodded 'coz I can't seem to find my voice. I felt like something was lodged in my throat.

"Good! I gotta go, see you around." He said as he waved a hand at me. Then I saw him walking towards the group of girls I was watching earlier.

I saw him put his arm around the girl who looks like Taylor Swift's's waist and then he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. The girl glanced up at him, gave him a big smile and said something. My heart dropped. So, he's taken already, and of all the girls to be with, he's with 'her. How can I even stand a chance competing with her? Not that I think I have a chance with someone as gorgeous as he is but it just means my chances just got slimmer. Just then, the first bell rang and it sent the entire student populace into motion. The crowds began to disperse and students went their separate ways to their own classes.

Once inside the building, I looked at my schedule. Amidst all the students bumping into me I tried to look for my first class' room number. 021 HOMEROOM, it says. That should be easy, I thought. This should be somewhere here in the first floor. I followed the room numbers and it led me to the right wing of the building. After I had passed three more rooms, I found it with a big sigh of relief. I went in, glad that the other students are busy talking with each other and paid me no attention whatsoever. I took a seat at an unoccupied chair by the window just before the second bell rang.

I looked around as the other students scuffled to their own seats. I saw the guy I bumped into earlier with the girl he kissed, they were sitting next to each other and talking intimately as if they were the only two people in the room.

"Hey, are you the new kid?" A guy with black hair and a messy quiff haircut asked as he sat down beside me. It brought me back to reality and made me realize I must have been staring at the couple for quite sometime. I turned my attention to him.

"Yeah." I noticed he's kind of cute too. Not gorgeous like the bumper guy but in a boy-next-door kind of way. He had playful brown eyes that felt warm and cute dimples so deep that looks like it has been carved out of his cheeks.

"I'm Mark Alexander. You can call me Mark," he said extending his right hand.

"I'm Cassie Jensen." I replied, smiling and taking his hand in mine.

Just then, the teacher walked in and the noise level went down. Everybody finally settled down in their seats. I gave Mark a quick glance and I was surprised to see he was looking at me too. He winked and smiled at me. I feel less nervous now. 'This school year may not be so bad after all,' I thought as I let myself relax in my seat. Unfortunately, my relaxation was short-lived as I was called to introduce myself being a new student. Maybe this will be a long day for me because I hate being the center of attention.

After I was given the chance to babble about my boring self, (my hobby was reading? I can't even reinvent myself and think of something more exciting like sky diving or riding roller coasters?) the teacher took attendance and I learned that the bumper guy's name is Raiden Patterson and the girl's name was Taylor Johannesen. The name suited her, I mused.

Half the period was used up by an ice-breaker bingo. What are we, 7? But I learned that Taylor speaks another language - German; Raiden is an only child and Mark is afraid of cockroaches. The other half was spent going through the syllabus, deadlines and the rules inside the classroom. She also answered the students' questions about the class and asked us about our expectations.

Mr. Drake was just ending his speech about how much harder this year will be for us and how the workload will increase when the bell ending his class rang. You can hear the loud sighs from the students as they got up from their seats and rushed out the door, almost resembling a mini stampede. I did not stand up and decided to let the big crowd go before me. I noticed that Mark stayed in his seat too. He notice me glance at him and explained, "I always wait until they're gone, I don't enjoy crowds and being squished like a sardine. What's your next period?"

I looked at my schedule, "History."

"With Ms. Cartwright?"

I nodded.

"Cool! I have that too. Lucky me." He stood up and motioned for me to follow him.
