"I don't get it", Catherine exclaims.
Her and I have been going out for a while, and this is probably our fifth round or fifth date.
"Don't get what", I ask her after taking a sip of a milkshake through a straw.
"You! Like the way you dress", she replies. "What's wrong with how I dress", I ask her while looking at my clothes.
"There's nothing wrong with how you dress, in fact it's an interesting fashion sense. It's just you don't really dress like the big time business investor type", she claims. She starts pointing out and says, "look at this, sweatpants, hoodie and vans. And not even a gold watch at least".
"Maybe I like to be different that's all", I tell her. "Yeah. But this is really cutting the difference in half. There's a big scoop here, I can feel it in my gut", she claims while wiggling her finger in my face. "You're just looking for things that aren't there", I tell her, soon after taking another sip of my milkshake.
Catherine pouts her lips and sticks out her tongue afterwards. "Oh no, I know that face all to well", I tell her. "What face", she asks me with a smile. "The face of you're not convinced with what I'm saying and you're going to keep poking into the matter. I've known this face since we were kids", I tell her.
"I don't know what you're talking about", she exclaims while making the excat face again. "See! You did it again", I scream out. "Let it go Catherine", I tell her. "Okay, okay", she replies. She takes a sip of her milkshake but with a subtle twinkle in her eye.
She notices my phone ringing and the number saved as Devil displayed on the screen.
"Devil! Who's that, your boss or some crazy ex lover", she asks with a chuckle. "Definitely not a crazy ex. Never had one in the first place to then have an ex", I tell her. "Never had what", she asks in a confused tone. "A girlfriend", I tell her. She remains quiet for a few seconds and exclaims, "oh I see", then after bites her straw before having another sip.
"Let me answer this", I tell her. "Hello", I say to the caller on the line. My manager answers back asking, "are you busy right now". I tell him, "yeah. Very busy". "Well free yourself up now, we got business to attend to", he demands.
"Like now", I ask in an annoyed voice. "Yes now", he exclaims. Soon after a car pulls up to the side of the ice cream place and hoots for me. I look at it and exclaim, "how the hell did you even find me". My manager answers with, "I put a tracker on your phone. Now bring your ass back to the hotel", he screams afterwards.
I cut the call and get off my seat, telling Catherine, "I need to go now". She replies with, "off to do The Devil's Work I see". I turn to her with a smile and tell her, "I don't know how to feel about that". She waves her hand and says, "bye bye K. Have fun in the Devil's playground".
I roll my eyes and tell her, "next time you're buying the drinks". She winks and says, "round six then".
I leave Catherine and walk to the car.
I get to the hotel and see my manager waiting there for me.
"So, what do you want", I ask him. "You remember that RnB artist from a few days ago. Well he's almost done with his song, but it needs another one of your deep lyrics. What you got", he asks me.
I look at him and burst out laughing. "You caught me in a really good mood today", I tell him while still laughing. "Give me a few minutes", I tell him while grabbing a pen and paper.
5 minutes later. ...
"Done", I exclaim while handing him the lyrics. "Alright let's see what we got here", he says while looking at the lyrics.
How I feel ain't a choice of words, and as I see you ain't defined by curves.
My heart moves fast, I need you to slow it down, while I wanted you back then, I need you right now.
So how about you come around, come around to my house. Let me show you what good loving is about.
Take a load off of your weight on me, ring your pretty voice in my ear cause you can always call on me.
Keep me away from living lonely, rushing into love, but still kissing you slowly So maybe be the girl I call my one and only.
After reading them my manager looks up to me with a raised eyebrow. "Who is she", he asks in a curious tone.
"She who", I ask him. "The girl who clearly has you in your feels", he replies. "I don't know what you're talking about", I tell him with a chuckle. "You seem to have forgotten how good I am when it comes to this kind of stuff", I remind him. My manager just looks at me with unconvinced eyes. "Mmh, if you say so K. Good work", he tells me.
Soon after he says that I begin to laugh and mumble, "Devil's Work".
My manager asks me, "what was that".
I tell him, "oh nothing. Just an inside joke".
