Fight or Flight (3)

The other three students actually did not have to stay idle for too long, as their opponents seemed to have arrived within their perimeter in no time. This came as quite a surprise to them, since it was as though their opponents knew exactly where they are.

"We are more than 500 kilometers away from their flag mast, aren't we?" Arnold asked Darius, who was standing next to him. "They were able to come over and find us at such a short time?"

Darius, knowing what Arnold was implying, had his face twisted. He replied in a solemn tone, "It seemed that one of our opponents have the ability to track us. It must be their esper ability."

"That's gonna be trouble." Arnold furrow his brows. He pressed on his earpiece and informed Elliott and Lucas, "Guys, it seemed as though the other team has someone with the esper ability to track our location!" However, to Arnold's dismay, there seemed to be nothing but static coming from the other side.

"Something is wrong. I can't reach them!" Arnold immediately turned his face and informed Darius. The other boy, who saw the seriousness of this case, tried to contact Elliott again to no avail. Then, he gave Arnold a solemn gaze before stating, "We need to leave. Now."

Darius immediately turned his back towards Arnold and started running. Arnold followed behind him. They ran across to Nick's place as quickly as possible. After running up the stairs towards the 8th floor, where Nick had been, they found that there was no one there.

"It seemed that Nick already knew something was wrong and left before us." Arnold said. "But why wouldn't he come over and inform us of this problem when we were standing on the building right across from him? In fact, it's quite suspicious that Nick did not say anything even up until we can see those guys in our field of vision. With his sniper rifle, he would have noticed something was wrong minutes before we did."

Darius did not say anything. He walked around the entire floor and tried to analyze the scene. However, he could not come up with anything. It was then that he noticed their opponents seemed to have already arrived in front of the 10-story building. His face immediately turned ugly. "We've got company."

Arnold, who also saw the two opponents approaching the building, gave a nod of acknowledgement. Then, he asked, "Do you know of the esper abilities of those two men?" He simply wanted to double check with the person in front of him if he had any more information before they engaged in combat.

Before the start of the game, Elliott and Lucas have informed all of them the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing team. At that time, Lucas was the one who spoke the most, he said in an analytical tone, "From what information I could gather from the school and from secretly observing them these past few months, it seemed that we are in for quite a tough match."

After saying this in the start of the conversation, all the other teammates had their face turned solemn at the time.

"Jammy Dean. He's the captain of the opposing team." The personal chip from within Lucas' wrist suddenly glowed. A hologram was revealed in front of the boys, showing the face of the man in question. The person that was shown in front of them had quite the cheerful face. His graceful smile and curved eyes showed his class that was different from upper-level citizens. Even though what appeared before them was only a hologram, the aura exuded from the person could not be ignored. He looked like a noble gracefully passing through a park, looking confident while exhibiting the right amount of narcissism.

"He was ranked first in close-quarters combat last year. One might think that this is his specialty, but he also exhibited great results at long-range shooting and short-ranged shooting. Basically he is an all-rounded character in terms of combat. However, what is truly frightening about him is his ability in forming tactics on the go. Since joining the different team-building exercises throughout the years, he had seldomly lost a game. From looking at the footage of his past exploits, I can see that he is actually a person that make up his plans on the go. Apparently, this talent is highly regarded by the higher-ups and rumors say that when he graduate, he will be directly promoted to the rank of Captain."

The information given to the boys caused them to unconsciously gasp. Elliott then reassured the rest of the team, "Don't worry, although they have a master tactician on their team. We have a master strategist on ours." He patted on Lucas' shoulders, firmly holding onto them as he stared at Lucas, giving a smile that practically said, "I believe in you."

Lucas, who was suddenly praised as a master strategist, was obviously not used to it and immediately blushed. To prevent the atmosphere from getting even more awkward, he ignored Elliott's praise and continued giving out information about the other members of the opposing team.

"Luckily for us, it seemed that the teacher knew if he put a whole bunch of elites in one team, the game would become too lopsided, so the rest of the team's stats could be said as average. The next person to note is Alex. He's the sniper for the team."

Lucas then showed the hologram of Alex. The figure of this boy in front of them actually was quite a surprise. Alex was 13 years old, the same as Lucas. His build, however, was even smaller than Lucas. One had to wonder if he could even lift a sniper rifle, much less shoot it.

"Don't underestimate him." Lucas furrowed his brows after taking a look at the expressions of his other teammates, "This person had never missed a shot in his life, always able to precisely aim for a person even if the person is moving about. Although his skills are not as good as Nick, this is only due to his physique. Because of his build, he could only use shorter-ranged sniper rifles, which means that he only has an effective range of 600 meters."

Arnold, who had no idea what the standard was for the effective range of snipers, so he gave Nick a questioning look. Nick, noticing his confusion, whispered close to his ear, "My effective range is 1500 meters. If I concentrate well, or if the terrain is good, I can shoot up to 2000 meters away without any problems."

Arnold gave a nod of acknowledgement and continued to listen to Lucas.

"Jonah Yamamoto. Although from the first glance, there seemed to be nothing notable to be said from him, it is said that this person is quite slippery. He seemed to be trained in the ways of the ninja from before the apocalyptic era, so his specialty is assassination. His ability to hide within the shadows and move without a sound is unparalleled. He can slit your throat from behind without you even noticing it. Of course, he's not allowed to do that in this game, but he can still stab you from the back and instantly eliminate you from the game."

"Natasha. She's the only girl in our opponent's team." When Lucas showed the hologram of her body, some of the boys immediately whistled, staring at her round chest and bust that attracted all the men's lower parts. Lucas, who saw the lust in the hormonal teenagers' eyes, immediately rolled his eyes and shouted, "Pay attention!"

The boys immediately stopped looking, but would still take quick glances at the girl's hologram from time to time, causing Lucas to furrow his brows.

"Natasha is also a long-ranged specialist. Although her precision is not as great as Alex or Nick, her range is much longer than both of them. Since her family had the money to afford to give her expensive weaponry to train herself, she could use newer, more expensive models of sniper rifles that had a range of up to 5 kilometers. With two snipers on their team to compliment each other, if they team up against us, we will be put in quite a disadvantage."

"Finally, there's this person. For some reason, I could not manage to gain any information from him. He had just been admitted to the academy a few days before Arnold, so we don't have any emprical data on him. What we do know is, from his student files, it seemed that although he just entered the academy, he seemed to have already been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His name is listed as Dominic. That's all I know for now."

Arnold raiseed an eyebrow, it seemed that he was not the only one who got such a promotion from just entering the military. It seemed that he needed to pay more attention to this person.
