The Tides

I wake up early this time and roll over so I'm hanging over the edge to see if Raven is awake, she's asleep. I climb down the ladder as quietly as I can, I touch the ground with my feet and move so I'm standing over her. Taking a moment to stop and take in her beauty.

"Raven" I whisper

She replies with a mumble and rubs her eyes, I look around to make sure no one's looking and kiss her, her lips soft between mine. I pull away to breathe and smile at her, she smiles back at me and rolls over.

"Now go away Thomasyn it's too early" she mumbles

"Okay sleepy head"

I leave her be and walk quietly through the bunkroom and outside, the sun has barely made it up into the sky. I go find Miss Kennedy and ask her if I'm allowed to surf while everyone's still asleep, surprisingly she says yes. I get my things together head down the path to the beach with Miss Kennedy following.

"I'm going to walk to sirens corner and back, I trust you can be safe on your own?"

"Yeah of course"

"I'll be back in roughly half an hour" she says as she begins her walk

"All good"

I attach my leg rope and run out into the water, the warm water splashes me as I paddle out over the waves. They're not as big as the last few days but still big enough to ride. The sun breaks through the clouds and lights up the ocean with its rays, its warm touch wakes me up even more.

Waiting for a set I see something making ripples out a little further than me, I swear if that's a shark! Should I paddle over to investigate or paddle into shore? ah fuck it, I begin slowly paddling over to where I had seen the ripples last. I sit up on my board to have a better view, I wait there for another ripple or splash. Looking around there are no signs of movement anywhere, as I go to lay back down on my board something pulls me under the water, I hold my breathe quickly and frantically look around to see what is pulling me down but I can't see anything. Its pitch black which is strange because the sun was out .Freaking out I start to waste my oxygen, my heart and chest start to ache, my eyes start closing and my head starts to hurt, no way am I being pulled under and drowning to death. With the remaining consciousness I have left I start kicking my legs hard hoping whatever was dragging me would let go. No this is not the en….

I wake up to someone calling my name. I look around and nothing looks familiar, a young women probably close to my age comes from behind me so she's in front of me. Her hair is long and bright red, she has angelic aqua and green eyes sort of like mine.

"Hey your finally awake, I was calling your name for a while. You're not dead so you can stop pinching yourself and no need to stress I can hear your heartbeat you're safe."

"Where am I? How do you know my name?"

"My names Emori, I know your name because we've been looking for you since you were born. You're deep underwater in the kingdom of Thaivalon. Oshiera she's awake, she's an elder she will tell you everything you wish to know"

Who is Oshiera? And what is Thaivalon. Emori seemed genuine when she said she wasn't going to hurt me. How can I be underwater but still breathe? It doesn't make any sense, maybe I'm in the hospital in a coma or still dreaming. But that doesn't explain why I can physically feel the roughness of this seat or how I can feel my body getting hotter because of my racing heart.

"Ah beloved Thomasyn, I know you must be scared and confused but your Mother wanted us to find you before they did and tell you who you really are and who she really was." Said Oshiera in a stern and calming voice.

Emori called her and elder yet she looks only a few years older than Emori and I. how does she know my Mum, maybe she knows the truth about what really happened that night and can explain what this perfect scar means and how I got it. But who are the others she was talking about, am I in danger?

"We are the Thaivalon we are one of the 4 kingdoms of mermaids and mermen, however our kingdom only has women. The other 3 are the Siroxthia, where the evil mermaids and mermen go and sirens are born. The Watarei who can only take on sea form and finally the Ocelin where all the mermen are from"
