Go Back To The Wife

If Wang Rouxi just knew that Xia Jiannan had proclaimed that he wouldn't marry Wang Xinji when she took him back at the Xia Family's Old Residence, she wouldn't be overthinking things right now.

Wang Huozhen sat back down on his chair, feeling a bout of exhaustion hit him. His outburst earlier drained much of his energy that he could only stare fixedly at Wang Rouxi who was standing in front of him, seemingly deep in thought.

An eerie silence descended over the study.

Wang Huozhen shuddered. He was not sure when, but he felt that the air suddenly turned a bit colder.

Shaking off that uncomfortable feeling, he said with much emphasis, "Yes, it IS like that."

His words snapped Wang Rouxi out of her previous state. Her mind ran overdrive as everything started to click in.

Not letting her emotions get the best of her this time around, Wang Rouxi managed to arrive at a plausible truth after a careful thought.

As they say, "Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement."

Wang Huozhen said that Xia Jiannan was engaged to Wang Xinji, but it was apparent that his daughter was against it.

If Xia Jiannan did agree to it, then why would the Xia Family be ecstatic upon knowing that Xia Jiannan got a "girlfriend"?

Why did the Xia's not mention anything about the marriage agreement then?

It could only mean one thing...

This Wang Huozhen wanted to force this marriage despite both parties' disagreement.

Wang Rouxi stared straight at Wang Huozhen with her eyes devoid of any emotion and said each word slowly and clearly, "I do not agree."

Wang Huozhen's fury sprang back to life when he heard this and he snapped at Wang Rouxi, "You don't have a say on this matter!"

"I have," said Wang Rouxi, matter-of-factly.

"You dare defy me, Wang Xinji?" Wang Huozhen abruptly stood up and slammed his fist on the table for the second time. "You will do as I say!"

The current head of the Wang Family seemed to have a habit of slamming his fist on the table, Wang Rouxi mused to herself.

Well then...

Without any warning, a fair and delicate hand landed on the mahogany table with a 'bang'.

Creak!

Creak!

Splinters of wood flew from the impact as the supposedly sturdy and durable mahogany table broke into two. The papers stacked neatly atop the table were now scattered on the floor in a mess.

It was not for naught that Wang Rouxi asked about the table material earlier. If this matter couldn't be resolved by peaceful means, she decided to give Wang Huozhen a surprise.

And a surprise indeed it was.

Wang Huozhen staggered back in shock and slumped onto the chair, his eyes as wide as saucers.

"Tell me now. Do I have a say in this matter?" Wang Rouxi asked innocently, her hands clasped behind her back.

She acted as though this had nothing to do with her at all!

"You..." Wang Huozhen was at a loss. "You're not Xinji! You're not my daughter Xinji! Who are you?"

Wang Rouxi neither affirmed nor denied his accusations. With one last look at him, she turned on her heel and left him with but a single sentence:

"No need to push through with this marriage because I am efficient enough."

To say that she was disappointed would be an understatement.

Instead of wasting her time here, she might as well just go back to her wife and spend her remaining free time with him before she had to work at the Wang Empire Estates.

Wang Huozhen was left staring at her departing back, trying to comprehend her meaning.

What did she mean by "efficient enough"?

Just then, he saw a glimpse of the worried Secretary Sun outside the study when Wang Rouxi opened the door.

Wang Huozhen was visibly shaken.

He would not be able to reach his position now if he couldn't even catch on to this simple fact.

That woman just now was the person his mother had chosen to take over the company!

Words couldn't even start to describe the immense regret Wang Huozhen was feeling at this moment. The words he uttered earlier came biting back at him and he felt a burning sensation on his face as though someone had slapped him a hundred times over.

'You will marry Xia Jiannan... We cannot guarantee if the person your Grandmother had chosen to take your, older brother's place will be efficient. It's good to have a contingency plan.'

Not only did he mistook her as his daughter Xinji, he even slapped her hard and offhandedly called her incompetent.

"Dammit!" Wang Huozhen hissed and buried his face in his hands out of frustration.

Nothing seemed to be going right!

"Great! Just great! You f*cking messed up, Wang Huozhen!" He chided himself.

With Shenyun still in a coma, they needed that woman to take over. Even though he wasn't sure what the Old Madam had seen in that woman, he could not possibly go against his mother at this point in time.

Wang Huozhen sighed.

What's done is done. He couldn't go back in the past to right all the wrongs, right?

This was what welcomed Shi Linlang when she opened the door to the study.

"Oh. My. Gosh!" She covered her mouth with both hands in shock, her eyes wide opened. "What happened here?"

Papers and office materials were strewn across the floor. The usually clean and tidy study was now in a scattered mess.

But that was not what shocked her...

It was the mahogany table which was snapped in half!

'Just how in the world would someone be able to break that sturdy table into two!' Shi Linlang exclaimed internally.

She hurriedly went over to his husband and checked on him, "What happened here, Huozhen?"

Wang Huozhen looked up to see his wife's worried expression. "Did you know?"

His voice was low, almost inaudible even.

Shi Linlang hesitated a bit before nodding her head, "Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I also just got to know it when Yiqi called her Miss Rouxi earlier."

Wang Huozhen fell into a deep contemplation upon hearing that. He couldn't let that woman report to his mother about what happened today!
