Catch Her If She Falls

Xia Jiannan followed her, his sight never leaving her figure. He watched as she pulled the drop-down ladder.

'Oh, how could I forget the balcony ladder?'

After ensuring that the ladder wouldn't collapse, Wang Rouxi motioned to Xia Jiannan. "Go first."

"Okay."

He didn't say anything along the lines of 'ladies first' and scaled down the ladder without a fuss.

That's ungentlemanly, no?

But Xia Jiannan thought otherwise.

With her left arm injured, Wang Rouxi would surely have a hard time stepping down the ladder, and that's where he would come in. He needed to be there to catch her if she fell.

Wang Rouxi was unaware of his thoughts, but she was grateful that he was cooperative because the pain in her shoulder made her irritable. She wouldn't want to knock him out, to get him out of here before the house exploded.

As she watched him scale down the ladder, the once skilled assassin couldn't help but lament how she had lost her touch over the years.
