"You're really going to work for Dan Williams?" Joan asked excitedly as Bella told her all Ben had told her.
"Ssshhh," Bella said, motioning for her to reduce her voice so her parents wouldn't overhear their conversation.
"I am not sure about that yet since I still have to go for the interview tomorrow morning. But hopefully, if I don't flop at the interview as I always do, then I just might get the job," Bella said with a smile.
"And you're going to be living with him in his famous glass house? I feel so envious right now," Joan asked in an awe-filled voice.
"I don't know anything about his house. What is so special about him or his house anyway?" Bella said flippantly as she looked at her face in the mirror.
"Don't allow anyone else to hear what you just said. Dan Williams is a screen god, he is an award-winning actor and singer, and he is breathtakingly handsome," Joan gushed.
"Don't worry. Since you admire him so much, I'm going to make sure I tell him about you when I start working for him," Bella promised before walking over to her door to confirm that neither of her parents was within earshot.
"What do you suggest I do about my hair? I intend to cut it, but I'm not sure I want my mother to know about it either," Bella asked as she returned to Joan's side.
"You can easily get a wig, but it would be a shame to cut such a beautiful hair. Why don't you get a wig that looks just like Ben's hair instead?" Joan asked as she reached out to touch Bella's hair.
"You know, I never liked the length of my hair. Besides, what is the big deal with it anyway?" Bella asked with a scowl.
"Quit scowling! You're a lady, and you should look like one. Come on, don't cut your hair. I'll get you a wig that looks exactly like Ben's hair instead," Joan offered. She didn't want Bella to cut her hair because she was hoping that one day she'd finally fall in love and give up getting a gender reassignment surgery.
"We will have to go get it tonight since I'm supposed to meet with him by 8 AM tomorrow," Bella said, running her fingers through her hair.
"I really hope you get the job. I can't wait to pay you a visit over there and sleep over under Dan Williams' roof," Joan said excitedly, making Bella roll her eyes. She was not even employed yet, and Joan was already planning a sleepover.
"Are you girls going to help me out in the kitchen or not?" Heather yelled, making Bella roll her eyes. She was yet to forgive her mother for the bruise on her elbow.
"We are on our way," Joan called out and hurriedly stood up.
"I don't know why you bother with such things when you don't do anything in your own house. You're the reason my mother sees me as a bad child," Bella said with a scowl, while Joan chuckled as she took Bella's hand to help her up.
"Mrs. Stuart, do you know Bella has a job interview tomorrow morning?" Joan asked as she helped Heather slice vegetables.
"She does? She is probably not going to get the job as usual, so we shouldn't get our hopes up," Heather said with a sad sigh.
"I will make sure I pass this interview and get this job. If for nothing but to prove you wrong, I will make sure I get the job," Bella promised in a low voice.
"Please do! If that is what it takes to help you get the job, then I'm happy to help. Getting the job will make me very happy since I won't have to see you lying around the house lazily," Heather said, making Joan giggle. She quickly put on a straight face when Bella glared at her.
"We should just go over to your place... I'm not sure I want to spend the night here. Maybe there are evil forces here stopping me from passing my interview," Bella said, looking directly at her mother, who was glaring at her.
Joan looked from one to the other with amusement as she wondered why they were always at loggerheads with each other.
"Are you both at it again?" Mr. Stuart asked when he walked through the door with Ben and noticed the tension in the room.
Ben gave Joan an awkward smile before returning his attention to Bella. "Shouldn't you be getting mentally prepared for your interview?" He asked, looking directly at her hair.
"I'll be leaving for the interview from Joan's home. Goodnight, dad, Ben," Bella said and returned to her room to pick up her bag without sparing their mother a glance.
"Make sure you get the job!" Her mother called after her.
