When Words Became Ashes

As I said, I was scheduled for a check up this Thursday. So, that means I have to skip school for one day. I informed my professors that i'll excuse myself to proceed into a check up.


After school, I stopped at the nearby 7-Eleven to buy snacks. I'm planning to do a movie marathon tonight since I'll be skipping school. I grabbed some potato chips since they're cheap and a bottle of soda, then I went home.  


I opened the door and threw my bag on the couch. My dog, were surprised, he was sleeping when I did it so it felt kinda mean. But, anyways I greeted him and changed my clothes. 


After changing my clothes, I jumped into the couch, grabbed the remote, and turn on Netflix. I also grabbed the snacks that I bought earlier.


I was choosing a movie then something hit my mind. "Oh, shit. I forgot to cook rice!" I said out of annoyance. Then I quickly stood up and went to the kitchen. I grabbed the pot from the rice cooker and put some rice, washed it, then throw it into the rice cooker. 


I set the timer and turned on the rice cooker. 


It's already 7 o'clock, we usually eat dinner by now but because of my stupidity we're going to eat dinner late. I turned off the TV and turn it on again then just switched it to the news. Then, I went for my phone and slipped into social media. 


Minutes have passed, the rice were cooked and I was hungry so I went to the kitchen to grab the rice cooker. I handled it with no gloves and I forgot it was hot. So, I nearly burnt my fingers. 


My brother came out and prepared the table then we ate dinner. 


Mom came home at 9:34 p.m. I was watching TV by that time. "Did you guys eat already?" she said while putting down her bag. 


"Yeah, there's still rice left." I said, greeting her. She went to the kitchen and opened the fridge. "Uh, the rice is at the-" I was stuttered when she talked. 


"No, I don't wanna eat rice." she said. 


She grabbed the bread and took a bite. "This." she said with her mouth chewing the bread. "You're aware that you need to wake up early tomorrow right?" she asked me while walking towards the TV.


"Really? I still need to wake up early?" I asked. 


"Ofcourse! Your gonna come with me through the medical center at 8:00 in the morning." she explained. I sighed and went to the bedroom. 


"Goodnight!" my mom shouted. "Night." I responded. I closed the door behind me then hopped onto my bed. I took a deep breath and stared at the ceiling. I was thinking about tomorrow's check up. I don't know if the results will be bad or not. 


But, the answers will be revealed tomorrow so I put on my earphones, played some music, closed my eyes, and went to sleep.
