Thirty-Eight

December 2019

All the shocking revelations took days for my friends to understand. Surprisingly, my classmates are also happy with the news. They also admired Archer more, I mean, Alexander.

We even did a DNA test to clarify things around. I was scared at first, thinking that what if it was all wrong? What if he wasn't my brother?

Oh, how wrong I was.

When the results came out, I was happier than ever. Words cannot describe the happiness that has occurred in my entire body at that time. It's real. It is all real. Alexander is alive, and he is with us now.

As for my dad, he flew into another country to find a job. Mom was okay with his decision. There's no need to worry anyway, we're here by her side. I don't know if I can completely forgive him for what he has done.

But he did manage to fix our lives, somehow.

The bond between Alexander and my friends grew closer as they treated him like how they treated me. He is now home. I'm happy that fate found ways for us to meet him again.

"So, we have this special thing that we always do every Christmas. Asher, I know you know that right?" Mom happily spoke while we're eating dinner.

I nodded as an answer and took a bite from my food before speaking. "Yeah, it's the secret-Santa-thing right?" I asked.

She nodded as an agreement and explained how the secret-Santa-thing works. She pulled out a jar that contains our names on a folded paper. She made each of us pick one paper and said not to tell anyone who they picked.

I got mine and it wasn't bad. I picked the easiest person to give a gift to us. I already knew what present I would give.

"You all got one?" she asked. All of us nodded and answered. "Alright, then, open it!"

"Oh, I already opened mine." I pursed my lips. My mother gave me a sigh-look and shook her head. I chuckled and let them opened their notes.

While looking at their faces, I noticed Alexis scratching his head. "What's the matter?" I tapped his shoulder. "You got a hard one?"

"Yeah, you could say that." he scratched his head again. We all chuckled and laughed while enjoying the dinner.

"I'm guessing you picked Asher." Alexander chimed in while leaning towards Sevron like he was whispering.

"Shut your hole, Benj." I responded.

He rolled his eyes and let out a loud breath, "Don't call me that." he warned, glaring at me.

I shook my head and chuckled while teasing him. We finished dinner and went to our bedrooms to have sleep.

The next day is the last day of our school before the holiday break. I greeted my friends and gave them a piece of candy so that they can have toothaches. Just kidding.

We started our first class and we all noticed that Mr. Eric has a different aura this morning. He is very bubbly and optimistic.

"Good morning, class." he greeted us but in a cheerful and singing-like way. We all greeted him back. Some started murmuring on what is happening to him.

"Alright, alright, settle down," he ordered and placed his bag on his desk.

"So, I just got off from a meeting with the teachers. And we've come up with the decision to..." he paused and imitated a drum roll sound. "...cancel all classes today."

My mouth parted open, caused by the surprise. "That's it?" I asked loud enough. Mr. Eric smiles widely while raising his eyebrows and nodding. So, that's why he is in a good mood.

Well, still good then. The vacation started early. Students started to go home and do their own things. I greeted my happy holidays to my friends and to Candice. I'm not going to see her for a long time.

As for me, instead of going home, Alexander and I decided to stop by first in the grocery. We've also come up with an astonishing plan.
