It starts 3

The sun was just about to set on a midsummer evening as Tim crushed out his cigarette in his usual spot. Seeing a cockroach crawling on the ground out in the open he flicked his cigarette butt at it nailing it on the head. A good shot he thought to himself with an evil grin. He was proud of himself, and this day was going to be great for him. He had an easy job that he could get away with not really doing much of anything all day and it had great pay as well. It was his first job, but his mind was not into doing any work, all he really wanted to do was play games, smoke, and drink. As he hit the roach it jumped back, tipped on the stones, and wound up on its back. Tim watched it struggle to try and flip back over.

He was just about to step on it when Sandy caught his attention or rather her short skirt moving with the summer breeze did. Tim looked hard and as a gust came along, he managed to catch sight of her black thong it was showing off her perfect little ass. Tim wanted to see more but he knew that she was not that impressed by him, and she had a boyfriend that she had been seeing for a couple of years. He was hoping that she would come over and smoke one with him.

As she started over another gust came along and started to lift her skirt again, but she caught it in time. He would have had a great show in front of her if she hadn't caught it in time. Seeing the look on his face she immediately blushed. She knew that he had seen it lift her skirt before and from where he was standing, she could tell that it showed off her ass and her thong. There was no way that she could face him right now, especially out here in the breeze. Sandy really liked showing off her ass it always gave her a feeling of power knowing that someone was looking at her. There was something about Tim and the way he was either trying to look up her skirt or down her top that made her want to tease him just to see how far he would go. There were times that she had intentionally moved just to watch his eyes follow her breasts.

Seeing Sandy change direction inspired Tim to go follow her he was hoping that another gust might come along, so he could get another look. It was just this behavior that creeped Sandy out. Tim knew that most of the time she avoided him, but he liked the way she looked and loved it when she would get close enough that he could smell her perfume. It hadn't helped that he hadn't had a steady girl for a long time, and this job was not exactly the best place to find one.

The cockroach finally managed to flip over off of its back. It had always shied away from people and anything else that was larger than it was, and that was just by nature, but this time it did not see the human at all. It had crawled out of a storm drain when it had started to get dark. It had not waited long enough and as it moved slowly taking it a little at a time like always, but this time it had been seen and almost killed. If Tim knew what was going to happen next, he would have forgotten Sandy and finished killing the roach. But it was not to be he had missed his opportunity, as soon as that short skirt had come into view. The roach had made its way to where the glass had fallen off of Tim's boots. When its antenna touched the glass, it had gotten a zap of pain that traveled up into its brain. The whole insect vibrated in pain, unable to move for what seemed like an eternity for it. At first, it started moving slowly but it didn't take long for it to return to normal. Even when it could move freely it was still sluggish but managed to return to the storm drain where it had come from. The only thing that had touched the organism was the cockroach's antenna but that was enough for it to get into the cockroach and start making genetic changes.

The pain was intense. The waves of pain went from its antenna at times making it stop in its tracks and just wait for the pain to die down. Slowly it made it to a place where it thought it was safe. There it just stood, it had no clue as to what was going on and it was not used to this it had become aware that something was wrong although it had no clue as to what or why. There was a soft glow on its antenna and a fair amount of heat the insect instinctively tried to clean it off but that just made things worse for it. Now it had been passed to its legs and its jaws. As the cells started to merge with the roach it started taking over control of the roach. The organism was a virus in every sense of the word its purpose was to convert everything as food to be rebuilt into itself.

This left the roach hissing in pain as it slowly started to glow as its structure started to change the shell on its antenna now thickened as the virus merged with the roach the DNA was now twisted and mixed. As the roach changed and mutated the shell thickened and grew spikes. The virus had changed as well the mixing had shifted it to something new. It was still deadly, but it was now weaker. Now it started taking on some of the characteristics of the cockroach it started cleaning itself. As it sat there its nature was changed as well and it quickly doubled in size.

Its hunger increased as well when it caught sight of movement normally it would flee in terror but now things were different it was drawn to the movement its hunger demanded to be satisfied.

In a flurry of moving parts, an intrusion of cockroaches came into the storm drain. This worked perfectly for it, and as they scurried past it speared one of the passers-by. The roach hissed as it trembled and slowly died. It quickly devoured the other roach easily tearing it apart and throwing parts of it off to the side while they were still twitching. Now that it had fed the pain stopped and it found that it could move freely. It took advantage of that moving through the storm drain at lightning speed. It was aware that it killed one of its own and it reveled in the power that it had.

As it moved deeper in the drain it found itself in bigger pipes that were leading into the sewer system. The glowing had almost died now that the change was complete although the other roaches did what they could to avoid it. Moving quickly and silently along the walls of the drain it knew that it was looking for something but didn't know what, but it was drawn just to keep moving. As it got to a section of the pipe it stopped dead in its tracks. There it stood trying to feel the way it needed to go.

While it was standing there its exoskeleton started to itch at first a little then it grew more and more. As it used its legs to dig the shell started to come loose. As it dug the shell lifted and popped up and loosened. The spines changed, they were now soft and when the shell came off, they smoothed down and as they re-hardened they were now slicked back. The spikes on its legs grew in size and thinned into blades they were razor-sharp even though they were only 1/4 of an inch long.

Meanwhile, back at the lab, the alarm started sounding off as Dave went into the decontaminating chamber.
