For the next 33 days, the testing went on without any real changes the extra testing had not revealed anything of any real consequences. But that was not the real problem because on this day the first human got up from his death sleep. A large man had gotten drunk in a bar he was hassling a waitress at the bar and causing a scene. He went as far as to lift her skirt and pulled down her underwear. She let out a scream and that drew two bouncers over. They tossed him out of the bar, and he landed on the sidewalk then they called the cops. At first, he just sat there he was drunk enough that he was finding it hard to get back on his feet. It was not long before the cops showed up that made him quickly jump to his feet. He was not seeing quite clearly and still, half stumbling around he only fell once but managed to quickly get back to his feet. As soon as the car stopped the bouncer told the cops what happened and the direction that he went staggering off in.
The cop shouted out to him, "Hey! You! Freeze right there!"
This made him start running or the best he could do for running and the cops started chasing after him. It was not long though until he stumbled and started to fall and swerved out into the street right in front of a bus. The bus slammed on its brakes but not in time he cranked the wheel hard to the left trying to avoid him to no avail. As the bus hit him it pulled him right out of his shoes and pinned him to the bumper. The bus skidded to a slow stop but not before it slid into a parked car. The blood squirted halfway up the windshield. His body was squished on one side of his chest tearing him about in half. leaving his feet dangling and kicking he died instantly.
The cops blocked off the area and they sent for an ambulance even though they knew it was too late for that. This was a very busy public area, and they needed the body removed quickly so that it would not draw a big crowd of onlookers. The ambulance was not that far and 2 minutes later it arrived on scene. The medic checked the body over it was definitely dead. The problem was going to be getting the body from between the bus and the car that it was lodged into. The cops set up a barrier to keep the onlookers back but before they knew it the reporters were there taking pictures and streaming live video of the scene. They were hoping to catch some action to help their ratings.
When they moved the bus back it released the body and half of its chest was crushed from being between the bus and the car. Once the body was released, they quickly started loading it on a gurney. What no one saw was his right hand started to move a little. Even if someone would have been looking at his hand, they would not have seen enough to think anything of it. At first, it was just a few twitches then slowly grew to the hand opening and closing. Before he could start any real movement, they had him strapped down and covered.
They had folded his arms at his waist before they strapped him on board since his body was almost cut in half. They treated it with full respect, and they carefully slid the board under it and secured it so they could lift it onto the gurney. Even though they were driving slow at one point a reckless driver cut them off forcing them to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting them. That made the gurney shift and one of the straps loosened slightly. The other straps held tight leaving the body secure, but his body did slide some. That was enough to jostle the body and make it move more. Even though the body could move it was unable to because it was still strapped down. It opened its grey eyes to the darkness of the cover of the sheet that had been thrown over its head. The two paramedics were in the front there was no need for one to be in the back once it had been put in and secured down. There was no need for the sirens since he was already dead there was no hurry getting him anywhere. With the music blaring and the two of them talking neither one of them heard or noticed any kind of sound or movement that was coming from the back.
Jim had only been dead for a short time before he had reawakened as the creature that he had become a mindless creature bent on feeding on the brain to ease the pain of its existence. Its moaning grew steadily louder as the time and pain increased. At first, the moaning went unnoticed the music and the talking was far too loud after all the were transporting a dead body there was nothing for them to pay attention to. As the electrical pulse grew stronger as it started moaning louder the paramedic heard part of it. At first, he blew it off as an unknown noise, but as it grew in strength, he told the driver to turn down the music. As the moan grew loud enough to panic the paramedic and have him demand that the ambulance pull over and stopped so that he could check what was going on.
The driver quickly made his way over toward the shoulder, but he had to keep going until there was a good place to stop. They were both afraid that they had assumed that the guy was dead and never really checked that close. That would mean an investigation and possibly a reprimand, but that was not really the main concern that was that the guy was alive and maybe slipping away. He would need a lot of help and maybe some pain control.
Dave quickly slid into the back before the ambulance had come to a stop. He almost let out a scream when he pulled back the sheet that was covering Jim's face. As he looked into the gaping mouth with gnashing teeth. As he looked at it, he saw the greyed eyes that seemed to stare straight through him with hunger and anger. Jim seemed to be pulling at his straps hard as if to try and rip them off the gurney. Dave just thought he must be in pain seeing his eyes open and everything moving. All he knew was he had to get some drugs in him to ease the pain and get him under control so he can check his vitals. Dave could not believe that this guy could be alive and moving. Jim was acting weird though, Dave had never seen anyone constantly biting at him before no matter what was going on. The glazed-over eyes were milky, and the pupils were showing no responses. With him strapped down, it was easy to slip the blood pressure cuff around his arm.
Dave wanted a good set of stats recorded so he could tell everyone what was going on. That way they could treat him. The only thing was that he was not registering a heartbeat and the blood pressure was too low. The low pressure was kind of expected even though it was too low the lack of a heartbeat was not expected. He was awake and moving even though his vitals were not showing that fact Dave immediately thought it was either the equipment which was checked every day before they ever left the base. The more logical thought was that maybe his arm was pinched and that was why the cuff was not reading correctly.
Dave moved closer so that he could check its neck if there were vitals that is where he would be able to get some readings. Dave kept talking to Jim trying to get a response but all he got was a mixture of moans and growls.
"Don't worry Jim, we will get you there as soon as we can. Can you hear and understand me?" Dave asked. As he looked deeply into the pail grayed out eyes that only seemed to have no real understanding.
The thing just moaned and snapped its teeth at him nearly catching his hand as he drew close. Dave quickly drew back his hand instantly with a disgusted look on his face he had no idea what his problem was, but he had no intention of getting bit. It was a close call if he had reacted a little slower, he would have been bit.
Even though the lights and the siren were on the driver had to swerve to miss hitting a car before he could pull off to get stopped. This threw everything off balance and almost knocked Dave off his feet but did push him into Jim. Dave's hand hit Jim's mushy body and sunk deep into the cold flesh. He felt the small intestine flop on his hand as the sheet that was covering him was pushed deep into his chest cavity.
Dave looked down to see the ooze dripping to the floor of the ambulance it was a mixture of blood and other body fluids that was already starting to solidify, and the smell was starting to be enough to make him gag. The only thing that he was glad about was the fact that the sheet was still covering him. As he pulled back the thing grabbed his arm and clamped on. It would have dug its fingers into his arm except for the jacket that he had on stopping it. Dave instantly pulled back trying to get free. Not only was it hurting, it scared the fuck out of him being grabbed.
Dave let out a girly scream as soon as he was grabbed which made the driver Steve slam on the brakes and put it into park. He knew something was wrong and he had to try and help.
Dave was trying to push away from the gurney without any luck. The slime that had coated the floor was way too slick for him to get any real traction. In fact, he almost slid to the floor if he had not managed to grab the handle of the gurney.
At first, Steve could not tell just what was going on the situation was completely wrong and unexpected. Steve said to Jim, "Everything will be all right, just relax. We are here to help."
Dave in a panic yelled, "He has a hold of me and won't let go!"
Steve took a better look at him and saw just how panicked he was, and he could tell how much pain he was in. Just then Steve heard a loud crack and a sickening scream out of Dave as the thing broke one of the bones in his forearm the ulna snapped under the pressure and the stress of the torque that the thing had produced.
Steve frantically grabbed a needle filled with drugs to knock it out and went for its neck. As soon as it saw Steve it started biting at him. Steve said, "We are just trying to help you this will only sting a little, and then it will take away your pain."
Steve had never seen anything like it and was having trouble getting close. Just then Dave cried out in pain again and drew its attention and Steve slipped the shot into its neck and pumped all of it in. Before he could draw the needle back out the thing twisted its hand and threw Dave into Steve. Steve was almost able to recover but did not quite make it on time and it managed to start biting his hand. It clamped down hard enough to take a chunk of his hand just below the pinky.
The only good thing that happened was that it let loose the grip on Dave's arm and he pulled free and fell to the floor. Steve quickly grabbed some gauze and a couple of wraps and wrapped his hand the best he could then helped Dave splint his arm so they could get moving again.
As soon as Dave's arm was secure, they tore off to the hospital not knowing just how to explain what happened. After all, they were just supposed to be transporting a dead body.
Once they were underway again Dave called the hospital in order to prepare them for what was coming. At first, they thought he was just fucking with them like Dave loves to do he was always joking about something or the other. It was not until they heard Steve cussing at Jim that they started taking things more seriously.
Steve yelled, " I have been goddam bit and I will be needing some fucking help the cocksucker fucking broke Dave's arm so you better fucking be ready. We will be there in 4 minutes."
They had only heard Steve cuss once when a patient died in his arms, they had almost made it, but they were too late, and they were too far gone.
"We will be ready," they replied.
As soon as the ambulance came to a stop 4 of the ER staff came running out to help. When the door was opened the smell hit them and as they looked in and saw the slime-covered floor and the sheet that was now coated with it too. They wondered just what had happened. The first one looked at Steve and Dave and unlocked the gurney so they could get it inside. Two of them wheeled the gurney into the room that had been prepared to receive the victim. The other two came to give Steve and Dave a hand.
Steve said, " Careful Dave has a broken arm I heard it snap."
The Nurse asked, "What happened?"
As they walked in Steve carefully filled them in on everything that happened from the time that they had picked up the body.
