Chapter 2

I looked around, the house was dark, and the air was cold, my voice echoing throughout the house with no one to hear. The pain in my neck is still strong as ever. But even so I sit in my room watching my family's lives go by. I tried to reach out to them hoping they would see me, Hear me, Something. But nothing, it was like I was only air, but I can clearly feel. I can hear my voice; I can feel everything around me. One day while I was watching I saw them with boxes where they were leaving. Why aren't they talking to me? Every now and again I would head back to the void but while I was here, I would watch as they walked by and did their own thing, but they never noticed me. They just rush by as if they do not want to see me. Sometimes when I came back from the void, I would find a plate of food on my dresser, and I would eat it before vanishing again and seeing the plate gone when I get back. Soon my mother came up to my door and I went over to talk to her. With a smile on my face, I stood in front of the door and said, "Hello mother" Instead of her responding she slammed the door, I tried to open it, but it was locked. I felt my heart sink in my chest "mother? Mother why are you locking me in my room?!" I fell to the floor thinking "What did I do wrong?" I put a hand on the door getting up and walking around my room. I looked at my things, they had a bit of dust on them. 'How long have I been out?' I thought while walking around the room looking for something to clean up with. I found a duster by the window, I looked at my record player, I smiled as I placed the disc on it and played it, I smiled listening to my favorite disc while cleaning. Soon I heard the door click open and my sister peeking in with a scared look on her face. I walked over "oh dear Lani are you okay?" She started shaking as I approached her and shut the door locking it behind her. I sighed finishing cleaning before Sitting down and just listening to the music playing throughout my room. Soon I got bored and looked around my room, Things had been moved so I placed them back in their correct spot. Once I finished, I tried my door again. It was useless of cores but does not hurt to try. While I was at the door, I heard a conversation going on, having nothing better to do I listened in. I heard my father's voice saying, "Are you sure it's okay to sell the house to him?" My mother laughed "When have you turned down money? Besides there are too many memories here and too many incidents with death, He needs a place to stay and since this place is open enough for all his things it will not hurt" My father sighed "I know I am just worried about what may happen if he is here. What if he goes into the room?" My mother sighed "Dear I have the key hidden, No one in going in there" My father gave deep sigh "fine we'll be gone by next week" I was concerned about this. But even so I could not do a thing, Days went by the sound of objects being moved throughout the house happen all the time. It got to where I could hear and tell who exactly was going through the house and where in the house they were. One day while it was just Lani at home she came into my room. "Nora are you here?" I smiled "Yep I'm right here! Not like I can leave my door locked" I laughed a bit, but she jumped then just looked sad. I went over to her and rested a hand on her shoulder "Lani what's wrong?" She just backed up "Nora why are you still here?" She looked annoyed I looked at her "Where else am I supposed to go? I wake up from a nap and I get locked in my room" She looked at me "What do you mean nap!? It's been two months!" I shrugged "I lost track of time but hey I'm not in as much pain as I was when I woke up So that's good" She sighed "Since you are here can you help me with something" I looked at her "Lani I have nothing else to do" She nodded "right..." "Now what is it you need help with?" She looked down "So you remember jack?" I thought for a second then it hit me "Wait, the jack Alice was supposed to marry?" She nodded and I sighed "Yeah what about him?" She said again "Well I'm going on a date with him tomorrow to get to know him and I wanted help with the outfit" I nodded "all right where is he taking you?" She thought for a moment "it was harpers edge" I scoffed "Wow he's so original, it's not like that was where he was going to take Alice" Lani nodded "yes, but hey I least I know where it is." I sighed "you do have a point there; Anyways I suggest something warm and comfy" She nodded "Aright and before I go" She looked back at me "I love you Nora, I know I haven't been the best, but I just wanted to say it." She then left and shut my door back locking it. I gave a small sigh flopping onto my bed. The next day she came back while mother was cooking breakfast. "So how do I look Nora" I smiled "You look great but come here for a second" She walked over, and I did her hair "Perfect, Hope you have fun" She smiled "Thanks Nora" She then left, I sat down waiting for her to come back. When she did eventually, she came to my room "Nora?" I looked over "Yes Lani" She walked to me "Thank you for helping me" I nodded "Of course" She looked down "we're leaving in two days and the guy moving in is mom's friend's son, He's like twenty-five I think" I looked at her "So a few years older than us? Okay." She nodded "Yeah along with that mom says we knew him as kids" I sighed "great, I didn't like most of the people we grew up with" She laughed "I know but hey I got you a gift" I smiled "A gift you say?" She handed me a bag, I looked inside and smiled "You got me some new records and books" She nodded "yes, there's more in there but I know how much you love that record player over there" I looked at her "Do you remember why I love it so much?" Lani shook her head "No I don't remember" I smiled "It was grandmas remember?" she looked at me "That's right you were really close with grandma and grandpa!" I laughed "yes and you were closer with mom and dad" She looked at me "What else of hers do you have?" I went to my closet and opened it "I have her old jewelry, make up, and some dresses I though where really pretty" She looked in the box "Whoa" I smiled "This dress was actually her grandmother's dress" She looked at me "You really kept these in good condition" I nod "Of course I did, I even have some of the swords and knives that grandpa collected" She just looked at me "You really are something else huh?" I nodded "yeah, I still wish I could have a garden as gorgeous as theirs, Maybe the new guy could help me" She gave a nervous laugh "Yeah maybe" I nudge her "hey you never know! He could have been one of the ones I tolerated!" She smiled, helping me put everything away before being called down for dinner. I tried to follow but got stopped by an invisible force keeping me in my room. Lani looked sad "I wish you could come," I nodded. "Same I don't know why I can't come out though, but you better lock the door back before mom notices" I shut my door and she locked it. Then she spoke from the other side "I'll sneak you some food" I smiled and sat down with a small sigh looking at the records she gave me. I noticed one had a song mom absolutely hated. I smiled, setting it aside while I kept looking in the bag, she gave me. I felt my heart jump when I saw the sketch book, I wanted a while back along with some pencils in there. I was so happy she remembered. After a bit Lani came back with some food and a drink, I finished the food and drink happily, "thank you! I was really hungry" She looked very confused; I just laughed a bit "What you've seen me eat a million times why is this different?" She spoke "Well your- Never mind it's nothing I was just shocked by how quick you ate it" I laughed "I said I was hungry, also you might want to hurry up out of here mom should be coming soon." She nodded, taking the cup and plate, locking the door and hurrying downstairs. Soon I ended up playing the song mother hated because I was bored and heard mom getting so annoyed, I laughed and heard her knocking on my door "Nora that's not funny you know I hate that song!" I laughed and changed the song, but I guess she thought she was talking to just my door because when I did, I heard her stumble back in fright. "N-No way that happened Nora if it's you knock like me!" I walked over to the door, and she knocked at a rhythm on the door, I copied then next thing I knew the door swung open. I asked her "Are you okay mother?" She looked terrified "this... This isn't happening!" I sighed "What is with you guys you act like I'm a ghost" I then shut the door, "Go ahead and locket before you have a heart attack, all right?' She did not lock it, instead she ran to father who instead of checking just locked it. He spoke saying "Darling I'm quite sure it's because you are nervous about moving" I heard mother give a deep sigh "yeah you're right, I'm just overreacting." Mother and father went to bed while Lani came to talk with me. She opened the door "hey Nora" I looked at her "yes?" She looked at me "I'm sorry I can't be here for our birthday" I went to her "Lani you can visit whenever you want to" She sighed "What if he doesn't allow me to?" I smiled "Lani, I will force him to let you visit if I have to, don't know how but I will" She smiled and hugged me "thank you, Good night" I nodded "good night, Lani, Also How do you unlock my door when mom has the key?" she smiled "I made a copy" I nod as she walked away and locked the door back. I went to my bed and laid down going to sleep.
