Lian Yu

The island off the coast of China has been the base of operations for many things, no matter what or who has need for it. As long as its tribe remains untouched, the island is open to whom ever has need for it.

The Suoyou Fùqīn tribe has inhabited Lian Yu since the very beginning of Man's existence. They lived in peace. As the centuries passed on, and technology advanced, the tribesmen did not adapt to "Man's ways". They kept their traditions alive: they used bow and arrow to hunt, they used fire for heat, and they kept their homes of wood and grass.

In the wake of the 21st century, their peace was disturbed. Men came to the island, and they didn't come for sanctuary. The tribe was pushed back, away from the beach, by force. The newcomers used the advanced technologies that they created, and many tribesmen were wounded.

The chief called for his people to gather at nightfall in the safety of the forest. A fire was lit, and the chief began, "Man has come, and he is not friendly. He has brought Death with him, in the form of what they call 'guns'. Never has Man dared to hurt us, yet these... èmó (devils), come to take our home," he looked at the fire, "They will not win."

The chief's daughter, Alina, went two days later to the other side of Lian Yu to make sure that the threat was only on one side of the island. She climbed up a tall tree, quiver strapped to her back and green hood pulled back, and looked towards the ocean. There, at the shore, she saw a raft. Beside it was a young man - a beaten and lost, young man. She swiftly climbed down, her blonde, braided hair whipping about as she ran towards the beach. She stopped short of the cover of the forest. Approaching the castaway was a hooded archer - the mercenaries' escaped prisoner. She called to him, "Yao Fé! Is he alive?"

He turned to her as she came out of the trees and grasped her forearm in greeting, "He is alive but weak. He is foreign- not of the area... seems American."

"Take him to the cave. I will care for him."

The next day, the man woke up to two green eyes staring at him intently. He started, "Where am I?!"

Alina put reassuring hands on his arms, "It's alright! I'm not going to hurt you. We found you on the beach."

"We?"

Yao Fé came into view, "Wǒ shì Yao Fé. Huānyíng lái dào Lian Yu."

"He says his name is Yao Fé. He welcomes you to Lian Yu. And I am Alina, daughter of the chief of the island's tribe. What is your name?"

The man coughed, "My name is Oliver Queen. My ship went down a long way from here... I am the only survivor."

"How unfortunate... yet I am afraid I cannot provide much more than this," she gestured to the cave, "My father is not very open to outsiders."

"What does it matter? I'm gonna die here anyway."

Alina slaps him, "Do not speak so! You are alive for a reason. You may not know it yet, but all actions have a reason!"

She stands up, and Yao Fé exits the cave before her. Before leaving, she turns to Oliver, "Survive, Oliver Queen."
