Chapter 7- Demon Doctors

"...When you have established that one alternative is good and the other is evil, there is no justification for the choice of a mixture. There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil." Unknown

What I felt was worse than death. The pain in my back intensified the dark abyss I was in was even worse. I was in a valley, everything was dark, stumbling through the dense fog was hard enough. Taking a breath in I fell to the floor, the darkness enveloped me again but it didn't overwhelm me this time.

The pain in my back left and it's place were my wings, they were really large and pure white. They were so light they emitted light. I stared flying through the darkness it was bearable I was reminded of something my mother said to me a while ago.

Though I walk through the valley of shadow and death

It brought me a sense of comfort until I saw it. It was ugly and menacing the darkness warped around it like a robe. It red eyes snarled at me, it's teeth were horrible to look at it looked dead but I guess so was I. It saw me and flew towards me, I panicked and turned away and flew, flapping my wings harder and harder. I knew it was gaining in me but I didn't look back. Then something odd well more odd than what was going on. There was a beeping sound going on louder and louder the faster I flew then suddenly bright eyes flooded my vision.

I was in the hospital again

Forcing my eyelids open I saw Xena and Xavier beside me and Nathan in the corner staying as far away from them as possible. I was in the same room as before the scratch marks evidence of this. Struggling to sit up my grunt snapped all of them out of their trance and making me the Center of attention. I didn't dare look at them but played with my fingers instead. The throbbing pain in my back subsided. Nathan wanted to say something his eyes hard to read, but he opted to keep quite. Xena broke the silence.

"Xavier go get her some water from the vending machine. Nathan please could you get a cupcake from the cafeteria? Please?", she asked. I have never heard her say please before. Her and Xavier shared a look before walking out followed by Nathan.

The room was silent, Xena watched me and I watched her. I had flashbacks of the library and then I moved away from Xena she saw it and she flinched like a I physically hurt her. "What happened in the library tell me the truth. You knew what was happening but you watched without saying anything.", I asked looking into her eyes. She was usually easy to read but it was hard this time.

She wanted to reply then the door opened and that doctor came in. The room became cold and I could tell Xena felt it to she stood up and blocked me from the doctors view, her eyes blazing. The doctor didn't even glance at her, he smiled at me but it was more menacing I had chills up my spine.

"Now now now, Xena is it I suggest you move from my patient so I can check on her.", Xena stood her ground and something happened she was flung from my side to the floor, her head hitting the corner she had a cut and was bleeding but her blood wasn't red, it was amber a lighter shade from Nathan's eyes.

The heart monitor beeped louder and louder as the doctor came closer, his eyes darkening becoming red like blood. He touched my head and I couldn't move like I was paralysed it was weird my head was buzzing but I kept my focus on him. Suddenly Nathan slammed the door open and nearly tripped on Xena's body. He faced the doctor holding a small blade.

His eyes were hard and dangerous he took a step closer to me but the doctor didn't flinch he smiled more, his eyes dancing with glee the wrinkles in his face were more prominent and his greying hair seemed like it was in fire.

A blade flew from the door and embedded the doctors shoulder causing him to snarl. The sound was hellish igniting goosebumps on my skin. Xavier stepped in, it was obviously him that threw the knife. "What did you do to her?", he directed to the doctor but he faced his sister instead.

"Ah two Angels, a mismatch and a halfling how splendid. I'm sure there are more of you and but I got you three. I didn't do much per say she might just need a doctor.", he laughed at his own joke but the guttural sound couldn't be counted as a laugh. The blood seeping through his white coat stared to drip on my leg, it burnt drawing my leg back instinctively I drew his attention back to me. "Ah I see it hurts. No? Well I suggest you and your friends step away from your quest for knowledge. Else there will be more bodies."

More bodies? What was he talking about Nathan threw the blade in his hand and it landed in his heart. He exploded ashes flowing everywhere. Landing mostly on me his eyes still at the back of my mind. The room went back to normal the cold almost non existent. My eyes flashed to Xena who groaned standing up from her position on the floor, she was leaning onto Xavier for support while Nathan made his way towards me.

Upon reaching me he inspected my leg and placed his hand over the burn it stung but when he removed his hand the burn was gone. He inspected me for more injuries and dusted ash from my hair. He traced his finger across my face. I was thoroughly entranced with his amber eyes and gold highlights.

"Get away from her Demon!" Xavier yelled startling me out of my trance. Xena who was still leaning on him whacked him upside his head. Resulting in a glare from him. Nathan refused to move away from him which made Xavier angrier and suddenly the blanket rested on me again like it was suffocating me.

Not this again

I yelled breaking their stare down they both looked at me while Xena smiled at me shyly. "Whatever you idiots are doing is hurting me please stop will ya. Or get out your choice. I'm already in a hospital I don't want to be in a coma again!" I yelled my voice raising steadily till I was full on shouting.

Xavier apologised immediately then Nathan spoke up. "You feel it?", he asked.

I nodded, " whatever you guys do it hurts please stop.", my voice falling below a whisper. "Can someone please explain what that Demon Doctor was saying? What is a mismatch and a halfling and what are you guys exactly?", I asked looking at each of them in the eye. I was met with silence it was uncomfortable.

Fine don't talk I'll find out myself

"No don't we'll talk.", Xena pleaded. Did I say that out loud, she nodded the boys weren't looking at me but rather at Xena. "She's obviously not normal we may find out about her a little before-" she was cut of my her phone it was blaring she picked it up and put it on speaker it was Anai.

"Guys there's a dead body at school. Looks like one of our classmates. Female by the looks of it, it's really brutal the authorities are calling it in.", she said her sweet voice said through the phone.

"And why are you telling us this?", Nathan asked earring him a glare from all of us. No one was snarky to Anai ever.

"Because... it was a demon attack. High level by the looks of it".

'Else there will be more bodies', the doctors voice echoing in my mind
