THE NIGHTMARE

We returned to the lake side after collecting the fire wood. She was cooking something with Eve. We had never seen this place without the brightness of the son ever since we woke up in that room. The sun was always up and shining.

However, Adam and Eve had said that after a while the sun gets covered by some cloud like thing and its all dark for about as long as two pots. I was waiting for that phenomenon. For them it was night time when the sun is not there. I stood close to the water, looking at the reflection of the huge trees surrounding the lake in the water. The reflection was same, there was no difference when the water was not stirred up by the occasional breeze.

It was looking at the exact same thing in symmetry.

"Wanna swim."—girl.

She was done with whatever she was doing with Eve and had come to stand there with me.

"Why do you ask?"—me.

"You are staring at it. The water."—girl.

"I just noticed something strange."—me.

"What?"—girl.

Perfection…"—me.

The sky turned dull suddenly. I looked up and saw a huge dark cloud slowly devouring the sun's light. In a matter of seconds it was all dark. The new bluish theme of the place was a little weird. I could never see through the trees and therefore I had no way of knowing if the cloud was exclusive to the lake side or it was for the room as well. Still it was exactly was Adam had told us. Dark-ish.

"Guess it's supper time."—girl.

She went to Eve, who was putting white plates on the table outside the cottage. Adam was busy making the fire. He had arranged the wood we collected in a conic shape and put some dry leaves and grass in the middle. The fire place embraced the place with light and warmth. We sat around the table like a family and ate our 'dinner'.

Once dinner was over Adam and Eve went inside the cottage. Adam had made me and the girl two hanging beds, tied to some trees. She jumped up on her bed and closed her eyes. I was staring at the cloud. I felt like I didn't see enough of it even though it was up there. Then it started pouring down. It was raining. We were guarded in the shade of the trees although some drops made it through the canopy and hit the ground where we were.

"Can't sleep?"—girl.

I turned at her. She was still lying on her bed but her eyes were open and looking at me. I walked up to my bed which was next to hers'. I placed my head in the opposite direction of hers'. We could look at each other's faces in diagonals.

I was lying on my back and staring at the canopy up above. I looked at the occasional drops that slipped through it and hit the ground.

"So?"—me.

"So what?"—girl.

"What is the plan? What do we do after this?"—me.

She rolled on her back and faced at the canopy just like me. I just heard her clothes rubbing on rough fabric of the bed. The rain was smooth, soft, and calm. It was like a slow music. Playing the same note forever.

"Well…"—girl.

"To start with, we can't stay here."—girl.

"Hmm."—me.

"But that means we have to go somewhere looking for something…"—girl.

"And I have no idea what might that be."—girl.

"I guess the most important question is clear then."—me.

"What is that?"—girl.

"Is this world real? Is this all real? The rain, the sun, Adam, Eve, this place, the room…are they real…and are they the only thing that exists in this world?"—me.

"That is…"—girl.

"Freaky…ish."—girl.

"I have an idea."—me.

"About what?"—girl.

"About this place…the question."—me.

"It's the most stupid question I have heard ever since I woke up in this nightmare."—girl.

'nightmare'

'yeah…it is a nightmare.'

'if it is real…then surely it is a very bad nightmare.'

'but…'

"Let's go"—me.

"Where?"—girl.

"I want to sort this thing out before the rain is over."—me.

"Why?"—girl.

"I have a feeling of urgency ever since I woke up. It is really irritating because it makes everything a waiting process."—me.

****

We walked through the forest and were soon far away from the rain and the lake. We discovered that the cloud was an exclusive phenomenon for the lake area. Everywhere else there was no rain, just the same old green night surface effect due to the sun and the canopy.

We didn't have to cut any bushes this time thanks to our previous endeavours. The path was clear and straight. Soon, we were out of the forest and in the dry plain.

"Why do you think Adam never walked this far out of the forest?"—girl.

"I don't know. But its questions this obvious like this that make me feel the way I do…"—me.

"Feel what?"—girl.

"This world is unreal."—me.

The plane was still there. We packed up our stuff, conjured some fuel and food for the journey. She turned the plane towards the room. Of course we couldn't see it but we knew which direction it was. The engine powered up and the blades became invisible again. We were returning to our point of starting. She pushed the throttle and the plane moved forward with increasing speed. In a matter of seconds the huge bird was airborne. We were flying above the dry lands. The journey back was silent and exciting, either we were going to discover something truly amazing or we would make fools of ourselves.

"You know what?"—girl.

She was speaking with a higher tone as the engine drowned the soft sounds. I had to answer her in the same way.

"What?"—me.

"This conjuring anything you want thing kind of makes me feel that you are right. This idea is something that can only exist in some game world."—girl.

"That is a good point."—me.

"You mean your point was something else."—girl.

"Yeah.."—me.

"What was it?"—girl.

(Engine sound drowns the answer, but she heard it)

"That is a better point."—girl.
