Chapter 1

Jin's POV

She had been working on it for a very long time now. Twelve months ago, ever since she arrived, she had constantly been working in her lab. Day and night. She sure was a competent figure and I appreciated her for that.

She left no scope for anyone to call her useless or amateur.

But it did worry me sometimes about the thing she was working on. An AI robot. The discovery of transferring human data into microchips had already been discovered but AIs had been banned after a massive international clan of roboats rebelled against many humans and disagreed to listen to their owners.

Soon robots started questioning humans and their authority so the world thought that it was best if roboats with artificial intelligence were seized to exist.

How foolish of our race.

But my step sister Sue, was planning on making a robot. That too An AI. Which made matters very fragile.

It indeed would be a big deal if the organization found out what she was working on and up until now we had kept it a secret saying that it is just a mere research about robots and their function.

But Sue on the other hand was dead set on what she was up to. She wanted to prove the world wrong. That robots were indeed helpful and that it was initially the fault of our race for being cruel and not cautiously treating them as they deserved to be treated.

Stubborn she was.

The death of our father had never been explained enough by the organization. The cause of his coma like state, his research journals being under the custody of the organization, and most importantly the thing they were working on.

It pained me to see him go away just like that. The father who had raised me. But I felt satisfied as well. Seeing the man being buried who had once cheated on my late mother.

It was hard to believe but now both my parents had left the world.

However what they did leave behind was very precious.

The moment I met Sue, we became great friends. She helped me through a lot which had happened in those twelve months of my life. Those twelve months where she'd always stay by my side, giving me all the love and support she could offer.

She was never like a step sister to me. She felt like my own.

Speaking of love...

Taehyung and her had been dating for a while now as well. Not that I had a problem. I liked Taehyung. He had been through a lot in his life as well before he himself got into the WRO (World Research organization). I had never seen him treat Sue with any kind of harsh behavior or being rude towards her and it genuinely made me happy.

Things were going just fine.

Greeting everyone with a warm smile, I headed over to sister's room to check on her progress with her AI. The last time I remember, it was almost done with only a few minute details left to be covered up.

"Sue-ah!" I purposely called her out with a heavy Korean accent which I knew she found annoying. I snickered and waited for a while before I knocked again.

"Sue-ah open up."

Heavy siren noises could be heard from below the building and my body tensed up.

Recalling the fact that the lab was built miles away from the city and on the outskirts, my breath hitched.

Something doesn't feel right.

"Go forward. It's on the fifth floor." A heavy voice which sounded like was coming through the other end of a walkie-talkie could be heard from the stairs near me.

"I am on fifth floor. Over." The man in the police suite, who was now walking towards me said.

"Wh-What's happening?" I asked nervously. Subconscious feelings of the worst clowding my mind.

"Sir it is important that you stay calm, it is all under control." The man tried to eaze me down

"I-It can't be..." my breathing got heavier and a I felt a sudden pain pulse up in my brain.

No.

"Sir, I need you to stay calm." The man warned once again. Before he could open his mouth once again, I barged in through the door and into her lab room.

I was greeted with silence. One of the large windows in her room was open letting in the air from outside.

The distant sound of the siren which I assumed were the police— or the ambulance, was now clearer.

I slowly walked over towards the window. The man in the police suite tailing behind me. I was scared to look down since I was scared of heights. But this time around, it wasn't just my acrophobia.

Grabbing onto the side pane of the window I saw many cars with blue and red siren lights above them. My vision blurred as I couldn't make out anything below me. The man behind me grabbed my lab coat to prevent any accidents.

But what I witnessed after I regained my senses...

Was something much more than I could register.
