The Surprise - Part 1

Little did the pup know what it had brought upon itself. I had prepared a great curse for her for getting me trapped in such a nice place. I had a good plan in place for her unruly behaviour even though I had much love for her.

'Just wait till we get home,' I uttered in my head. 'I have the perfect punishment in place for you. I won't just starve you here but I'll make you sit out in the wet fields for the whole night.'

Thankfully, Sam's mum had left right after checking up on the two of us. We were only worried about what to do with the cake as we hadn't been able to put it in any box to hide the whole secret properly. And I was even more thankful that Sam hadn't screamed on finding the little "beastly" creature had snuck into his room and been there the whole time.

"When did that one get here?" he demanded an answer from me as he suddenly sat upright on the bed from his rising temper at Layla. "Who dared to take that creature in for the crime it had done?"

"I let her in," I said in a dissatisfied tone. "I couldn't leave it out in the open sulking and pouting, and I couldn't inform either of you since you have allergies and your mum would certainly be against it."

He just sighed and dropped himself back on the bed with an arm over his head. I plopped down on the edge of the bed and stared at the wooden floor. I hadn't meant to not let him know but I knew he would have been frightened for his life after what had happened. I was still pondering how to get that cruel injury that he had gotten from her teeth healed.

"I'm sorry, Sameer," I said in a soft voice. "It's really my fault for chasing that creature. My brother had been right about keeping that creature away, but I just couldn't let her go hungry."

"You earned a loyal beast, Ash. You shouldn't let go of her so soon. I know I suffered some pretty bad injuries from its teeth, but it had been trying to protect you. And it certainly did the right thing."

"Still, it's my fault that you sustained such wounds. I can't even open up about them to your mum for I shall be in great trouble."

"I will take the hit for you. I will say that I went through a dark alley where I didn't know the strays had started to exist and give anyone a vicious bite if they found them to be not to their liking. It shouldn't hurt me as much as it would hurt you."

"No, you can't do that. That would be really unfair when it's my fault. I can't let you take the brunt for me."

"I can't have you get in trouble with your own family when you have got such a loyal pup with you. Besides, it was my fault for following you out like a kidnapper and alerting the pup's senses. That would be a great loss for you, especially when it loves you. Now that I think about it, I never thought that wolf pups were known to be loyal too."

I was speechless for a few minutes. I could only stare at him and wonder what he was planning that he was going to take the hit for me. I felt like I didn't deserve such kindness on my part as I had only created a disaster for him and now he was suffering more than he deserved to.

"I'm truly sorry," I said again, bending my head down and feeling the guilt eat me up slowly from the inside until I could find a solution to his wounds.

"Don't be so sorry," he said in a concerned tone watching me as he leaned on the headboard of the bed. "You have nothing to be sorry for. I am glad I could be friends with you and learn to view the world in a different light. If you weren't in it, I am sure I would have suffered much more than the wound I received today."

"I will search the cure for those wounds then. You will not be able to visit a doctor or get one to visit you in this heavy shower although it's an emergency. And bringing it up with your mum now might only land you in more trouble."

"Don't worry about that. I am sick enough for her to be able to yell anymore at me. If I let that happen, then I don't think i would have been able to volunteer. There are times are temper can be unbearable. You know how mums are like when they get really worried. But this one should be able to work in our favour."

I shook my head and held it in my hands as I couldn't imagine the favour he was doing just for me. I was ready to get screwed but not so soon. I felt ashamed that I had made a wrong choice and that it had led us to this.

"I'm going to have you spend the night outside in the rain," I chided at the pup, averting my eyes from meeting Sam's eyes. "And you're going without food until tomorrow morning."

I heard Sam's chuckle from behind me, but I made no effort to look at him as I sunk my head back in my open hands. I wanted to cover my reddening cheeks and ears that felt like it was revealed to the whole world.

I heard the sheets crumple and the bed creak as he came closer to me. I still didn't react to it and instead bent further forward. I shivered a little from the cold as I felt it sting me suddenly when I realised that we had both been in our wet clothes.

The most unpredicted thing happened in the next second, and I couldn't recover from the shock for a while. I got a back hug from Sam, a person who usually kept to himself but would now have a few kind words to spare other than his sometimes rude tongue.

"Look at me," he said with a small scoff as he brought a made-up flower in front of my face whilst hugging me. "I ended up giving a colourless flower to cheer you up instead of a real one from the fields. They have a good collection of them."

"You're good are insulting yourself at yourself, aren't you?" I retorted taking the flower from his fingers and looking at the way he had finally gotten it perfectly without any mistake.

"That's why I'm called the funny guy, remember? That trick helps you win in making jokes or creating humour. It's the best tool to create a fun friendship and become closer with a person."

"Thank you for the present. I'm going to treasure it like our friendship."

"That's not a problem."

The beam on his face when I gave a small smile at the flower he had created made me grin harder for him. I could have laughed with him if he started laughing. His laugh and smile were known to be contagious and it was also the reason his bully group from before would be found laughing and smiling except when they found their prey for the day.

"I think I know what's missing in this flower," I said after a minute's thought.

He pulled back from the hug and asked, "What now? I thought it had been done to perfection. Don't tell me there is another tear or hole in that thing."

"Oh no, those are not the things that this flower is missing. If you added this, you could make it extra special if you plan on creating a bouquet for her."

"Then what is this brilliant idea of yours, may I know?"

"A scent for the flowers and some glitter or paint."

After a minute's pause, his eyes grew wide and he said, "No way, are you asking me to—"

"Yes, indeed," I said with a smirk. "You will have to steal into her room and, if you get caught, you'll have to take the brunt for those wounds. Deal?"

"You're very cunning, aren't you?"

"That's who you made friends with."

"I'll accept the deal if you'll come along. I need you to check the perfumes and find which one is the perfect one. We'll then have to find a replacement for that one if we're going to drain it to the very bottom."

"Alright, I'm coming with you. I was only joking about not tagging along. But you had better be prepared to take the brunt soon after I have treated those wounds. Otherwise, you're going to be in a hell lot of trouble and the last thing I want is for you to get grounded because of me."

"This is still a contract with the devil."

"You chose it for yourself. You can't complain anymore. We're both in trouble if either of us slips up: I'll get it for keeping the pup here and you'll get it for trying to prepare a surprise for her in your siling state."

He shook his head and gave out a huge sigh. I knew that I had come out victorious.
