Chapter 6

"Jack! Wake up!" Snaps me awake to the most horrible sight that I've ever seen.

A group of zombies had surrounded the car. Their group forming a tight circle.

"Shit." Is all I say as I try to figure a way out of this. Cassie begins to whimper as the circle begins to enclose the car. The first of their hands start to beat on the windows.

The car shakes as they try desperately to get to the fresh meat hidden inside. Cassie begins hyperventilating.

"Pass me the shotgun and the box of shells." I say. Cassie, with shaking hands, passes them both forward. "I have a plan but it's really faulty."

She looks at me, tears beginning to fill her eyes. "It's our only way out." I say. She looks out the windows

"Okay, let's do it." She says, trying her hardest to keep her voice from shaking.

I fill the shotgun with as many shells as it can take. I pump it and tell Cassie to get ready.

"Here's the plan. There isn't enough zombies to stop us from shooting our way through on the sides. Although, there are enough at the front and back to prevent us from driving out of here. So, I'm going to clear a way out of my door, I want you to climb out first and then I'll follow."

"What about the zombies that try and fill the gaps of the dead ones?"

"I've thought of that too. I'll continue to provide cover until you're able to run, when that happens, I'll get out."

     "Okay," she says. I nod.

0Get ready." She climbs back into the front and puts her knees on the center compartment, ready to spring forward and run out of the car.

I aim the shotgun to the head of the nearest zombie "Three, two, one," I pull the trigger.

The window explodes outwards taking the head of the zombie with it. I pump the shotgun and blow the right side of another's face off.

"Now!" I swing the door open and Cassie crawls over me at lighting speed. As she's exiting the car a zombie reaches for her and I send pellets through his face.

Once she's fully out of the car I off another zombie that tries to grab her. Once she's a good fifteen feet from the car I begin to climb out. I dodge hands and attempts to grab me.

I get out of the crowd but the collar of my shirt tightens, until it acts as a cloths line. I try to keep running but the imbalance brings my top half to the ground.

I hit the ground with a thud. The light of day slowly being covered by the undead. I jump to my feet and swing the stock of the shotgun around manically in a desperate attempt to escape the clutches of death.

I'm breaking through their ranks. The sound of jaws breaking loose and moaning are deafening. Their hands continue to try and grab me, ripping my shirt to shreds as I twist my body around to shake their grips.

I swing the stock into the zombie blocking my opening. The right side of its head caving upon impact. A zombie that fell to the ground during my rampage grabs my ankle.

I point the shotgun at its head and pull the trigger, its head explodes and pellets ricochet off the pavement of the parking lot. Brain matter covers my leg and the pavement.

A zombie on the left grabs my wrist. I punch him in the face. Once, twice, three times, four times. His teeth begin falling to the pavement. My opening is closing fast.

I rip my arm from the zombies grasp just to be grabbed by another on my right arm. I try pulling away but another zombie gets his hand around my upper arm.

I throw Cassie the shotgun. Pain explodes on my right arm and sends a fire through my entire arm. I look and see the skin being pulled away, the muscle stretching and popping.

I look to Cassie. She knows what it means to be bitten. She puts a hand to her mouth to stifle her sobs. Her eyes become miniature waterfalls. I mouth  the words, "live, for me. Goodbye."

Blood begins to cover everything. I unsheathe my knife and send it through the zombies forehead, I may be dying, but I'm taking as many of these mother fuckers with me as possible.

The warrior beginning to take control for the last time. Another one takes a chunk out of my thigh. The warrior screams as I plunge the blade into the zombies head that bit my thigh.

The clothing ripped away along with ligaments, muscle and my femoral artery. Blood sprays the crowd. My breathing becomes heavy, with every beat of my heart a fountain erupts from my leg. I send my knife into the head of one last zombie.

My vision begins to blur, "Cassie! Run!" I yell over the moaning and the warrior screaming in me. I can hear her shouting but can't make out the words. I hit the ground.

The pain begins to fade to that of a bed sting. A sting pinches my stomach. I look down to see my internal organs being ripped from my body. My lower intestine being chewed on like a long spaghetti noodle.

My vision goes entirely black. The sweet relief of death taking the pain away.
