The sound of somebody clambering their way up the ladder followed. Moments later, Brenda poked her head around a stack of boxes and held up a small basket.

"Brought you some breakfast," Brenda said. Mand nodded at this and Brenda came the rest of the way around the corner.

"I take it my dad didn't find you?" Brenda asked as she set the basket down and started to pull out its contents.

"No, I kept still. I don't think he suspected that anyone was up here."

"Great..." Brenda trailed off. She seemed somehow unenthusiastic. She pulled a small plate out of the basket and started to pile food upon it. "Nothing fancy for breakfast," she said. "Pantry is running a little low here now at the tail end of winter."
