Melody's New Idea

Eventually, everyone did find out the next morning.

Melody and Charlie informed Dumbledore, who told Dippet, who then proceeded to tell the whole school.

Then Melody proceeded to go to the library again (without tripping over any petrified students).

Melody set all her books onto her usual table and began reading. She rested her head on her hand and stayed like that until she heard someone sit down across from her. (The table was two meters long.)

"Basilisks?"

Tom.

'Why does he look unnerved?'

"Yeah," Melody looked up from her books.

"May I see?"

Melody shrugged and slid the book over to him, then got Hogwarts; A History. Once that was out, Melody tried searching for any information on the Chamber of Secrets. But everything she found always referred to the Chamber as a 'myth.'

Her frustration must have showed at some point, because Tom spoke again. "Are you alright?"

Melody reread the paragraph on the Chamber of Secrets, then went back to read about what split up the Founders.

"This information is a lie."

"What?"

"I think that, as a descendant of Hufflepuff, my version of the story is more accurate. The story of how the Founders were split was passed down from generation to generation. Salazar Slytherin didn't hate Muggleborns," Melody finally stated. "Simple as that. All this is a lie."

"Are you sure?" It was rare to surprise Tom, but this time he was positively confused. Because when you tell someone everyone's lived for over a thousand years, a lie, it is a little hard to believe.

"Yes, 100%. It was because of..." Melody tried to recall the story that her mother always told her. "Regarding the medieval Statute of Secrecy. He believed Muggleborns had a right to their magic, but he thought it too risky for them to attend Hogwarts, because back in the medieval times, Muggles hated wizards and witches. They burned anyone found practicing witchcraft, because apparently, 'all witches are the same as those in fairy tales'," Melody said sarcastically.

"True, witch burnings were pretty common in the Founders' time," Tom said thoughtfully, as though trying to consider Melody's version of the story. "Although the actual Statute of Secrecy was created somewhere in the 1700's...."

"Remember when I said one day you two are going to use mathematical equations in your conversations?" Cheryl suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "Well... I take it back, now you two are using history."

Melody laughed quietly, so as to not tick Madam Rivera off.

"History is easy to understand if you actually tried to study, Fawley," Tom half lectured half argued/debated.

"Well, not everyone doesn't fall asleep during History of Magic, Riddle," Cheryl sniped.

"Then perhaps you should get your so-called 'beauty sleep' then."

"Hey!" Cheryl hissed, as the three were still in a library. "I'll have you know that I wasn't the one who stayed up all night!" She gave Melody a look.

Melody just shrugged. "Oh, Cheryl, I should have you know....." Melody repeated the same story she told Tom, to Cheryl in whispers.

Cheryl gasped. "I've lived my life a lie!"

Melody just nodded matter-of-factly.

"Melody, you've been reading all this time?" Cheryl gave the books a weird look, as if just realizing they were there. "I was literally searching everywhere for you!"

"I'll take a break, calm down. So, isn't there a Qudditch friendly in a few minutes?" Melody's friend, Cheryl, was a Chaser on the Gryffindor House Team, and teams usually had friendlies to keep up with their skills.

Cheryl nodded vigorously. "C'mon!"

So Melody packed her books in her bag, then looked at Tom. "You're responsible for that book, it's up to you to return it!" Then she allowed herself to be dragged off by Cheryl.

Once it was time to return to the common room (because hello, classes end, C-U-R-F-E-W), Melody began reading on about time. According to the book, there have been no known records of anyone going back in time and changing something that already happened. There were ten pages explaining the complexity of time travel. The Unspeakables, apparently, in the Department of Mysteries, 'are studying this ancient piece of magic.' Time travel requires very advanced Runes and Arithmetic methods of creation (If you could actually try it). And then there was the theory of the risk of going back too far, and how you could accidentally prevent yourself from being born.

Melody shuddered. She did not want to know how it felt like to be unborn.

Then there were more theories of how you couldn't actually change anything because if it is a matter of the past and your present, the past already happened. So like if someone from 1997 came to 1943, and their age is 15, it stays that way in 1943. So even if said person was born in 1982, and lived a normal 14 years, people between 1943 and ( insert the longest amount those people could still be around), will remember someone odd or the said 15 year-old who time travelled. But as there have been no records of a linear or planar dimension in the universe, researchers and Unspeakables can only guess.

After finally realizing that she was going in circles, Melody shut the book and yawned. 'Time travelling is so confusing!'

Melody decided that she could look more into Ancient Runes and Arithmancy the next day, so she called it a night and went up to bed. 'Thank god Charlus is on Prefect patrol tonight, I do not have the energy to do so myself right now...'

But even as she went to sleep, she still thought all about time travel. Was it the solution to her problem?

Even if it was, it was very complex and easier said then done if it was. And besides, she had to try without that method first. She didn't want to take drastic measures yet. But even if she wasn't going to actually use travel, it didn't mean that she wouldn't try designing a method.

Easier said then done, she knew. But she was going to try. She had to. She was a White. Whites made sure they got what they wanted. They honoured their name.

Melody was already thinking of where to place her time travelling device. In her journal, in a magical restraining bag, that way it wouldn't work if u just dropped the book. She'd preserve her journal, ward it, and make sure it got into the right hands in the future.

But first, she had to actually make the 'time travelling device.'

But what to call it? She couldn't exactly always refer to it as 'the time travelling device' all the time. It was too long.

Hmm....

Well, she was messing with time, so what about..

Time messer?

No, that sounds too weird...what about...

Time Turner?

Yes, it was perfect.

So Melody finally fell asleep, thinking about Time Turners.

She had to honour her name and save Tom from the Dark Arts.

No matter what.

A / N : Thanks for reading, I won't beg for reviews, but reviews would help me fix any mistakes or improve. Considering the fact I do not have a BETA reader, how was it?
