Jade's POV
It's my second day living at my new home. Well, it's old and small but I don't have the money to buy something more cozy and safe. For now, I'm residing at an old apartment in this almost abandoned building. The previous apartment I live in since I was born claimed by someone saying that it belongs to the government property. My mother and father died in a car accident when I was sixteen and my grandmother became my guardian until I reached my eighteenth birthday last year and that day she died because of her heart disease. Since then I became alone in our house, I don't have knowledge how to survive without anyone but I tried my best to gather all my intelligence to think what's the best thing I could do, I applied at the convenience store to sustain my daily needs while I'm studying. I became a scholar in a private school and it's a great opportunity to finish my studies. The money that my granny left I used in school projects and all. It's exhausting to study at morning and work at noon but I can't blame anyone, it's just useless. No one will ever listen, no one will care. Because I'm all alone for a year, I'm used to it.
I took a short bath and fixed myself a little before I stormed out of this old place. I don't have the time to eat breakfast because my class will start twenty minutes from now and I'm fifteen minute walk away from my school. I only ride public transport when I woke up late but in normal days like this, I walk to school.
It's my sophomore year now and good thing, nothing's wrong happening to me in this privileged university for the richest and worst teenagers. Every now and then I heard my classmates talking about how bully the Six Kings are. They bully guy students here which is less powerful or the ugly ones. I don't know how are they when it comes to girls, the girls around never talked about it. But something caught my ears, it's the modern version of Clark Kent. He always saves the students from those assholes, the girls are talking about him beating two members of the six kings. I never saw him because I always stay in our room and rush to my work after class.
When I'm near at my department building, I heard a loud thud followed by voices. It came from the side of the building. I rushed to the wall and peeked over to the place.
"Stand up weirdo!" The six kings leader shouted.
"She's more of a freak, Blade." The blue haired guy butted in and they all laughed. I furrowed my brows when I saw the poor student lying on her stomach. I thought they only beat guys but this is a girl for goodness sake!
"I said stand up!" Blade harshly grab and pulled the girl's collar from her back. He held her up but her body looks worn out. Her eyeglasses were broken and her beanie fell on the ground. The other guy with a gray hair punched her face that made me stepped back and cupped my mouth because I almost yelp. I need to do something! I need to help her! But how? The superhero!
But how can I call the modern superman now?
"No one will ever have the courage to save your ass now. Your savior is not here anymore."
"Jace is right. Your brother got scared that's why he dropped out." Blade pulled her hair to level their faces. But the girl is half lidded now.
So, who'll gonna save her if the hero isn't here anymore?! And what?! Her brother?! They're taking revenge on this innocent girl.
"You fucking weirdo! You know that everyone's disgusted on you, don't you?"
"Just follow your brother and leave this school. We don't want to see a freak walking in the campus everyday." Jace guy slapped her face hard that I heard the echoing sound of it in this abandoned hallway.
"Give her the best shot. Make sure that she can't walk for awhile." Blade instructed and pushed the girl back on the floor. She managed to kneel while she's palming the cold ground trying to support her body from lying flat on the ground again. The guys smirked and picked the metal bats on the ground.
"Die now wierdo!" The gray haired guy shouted but before he can hit him I spoke.
"Stop or I'll call the professors!" They all looked at me without any expressions. What will happen next? Did I do the right thing or I just dig myself into my own grave?
"Wow. You're beautiful miss. Do you want to eat with us later?" Jace broke the silence and walked towards my direction.
"Don't go near me!" I warned him but they laughed at me.
"The kitten is scared. Don't be, baby. We won't hurt you."
"Run." A very low voice caught my attention. She's having a hard time trying to keep her head up looking at me, her lips are bleeding and her eyes screams pain.
"Run." She repeated.
"Hey freak! Want to be a savior? Pathetic." Blade smacked her head again that made me shut my eyes.
"Let her stay and feel the goodness we can give." Jace step forward to me while I stepped back and to my luck, before he could reach me someone spoke.
"One more step and I'll kick you out of this school, Jace." Mr. Flynn Smith warned him. He's our professor and the son of the owner of this school.
"Fuck." He mumbled and start to walk back to Blade and other guys. The leader cursed before signaling his men to leave the three of us. The moment they left, the girl fell on her stomach again.
"Oh my god! Campbell, wake up." He immediately runs to her side and carefully turn the girl's body.
"I-m... I'm f-fine." She tried to lift her body but she lost her strength.
"Can you stand up? I'll bring you to the clinic." He said and help her but his phone rang. He looked at me asking for help and I immediately comply. I helped the battered girl to stand while our professor accepted the call.
"Yeah! Okay. I'm coming," He ended the call and looked at us.
"Kim, can you please bring her to the clinic? I have an urgent meeting to attend to. Don't worry, I'll inform your other professors on what happened." He said leaving me with no other choice than bring the girl to the school's clinic.
The nurse was busy checking on her while I stayed in the clinic watching her treating the girl's bruises and she fell asleep. I sat on the chair next to her bed and stare at her. She's... beautiful, even with those bruises in her cheeks, the side of her eyes and lips, and the cut in her lower lip, it looks really bad but it can't hide her beauty. Why are those jerks said that she's a weirdo or a freak? She doesn't look like one. I mean, she looks too precious and gorgeous. Or just because her brother is the campus's savior, they made her innocent sister pay for everything.
I heard her stomach growled even though she's peacefully sleeping. She's hungry, should I buy her some food to eat when she wakes up?
"Excuse me. This is her medicine, tell her to drink this when she wakes up. I have a lot of things to check. Director Smith send me alot of paper works this morning. Is it okay?" The nurse put the pain killer and a glass of water in the side table.
"It's fine, but can I buy something to eat first before she wakes up?" She smiled and nodded. I went to the school's canteen and bought two sandwiches and one bottled water then I went back to the clinic. I rushed to her when I saw her crouching, she hugged her knees while sobbing.
"Oh my god! What happened?! Where does it hurts?" I placed the plastic bag at the table beside the bed and held her both shoulders. I heard her whimper before lifting her head up and our eyes met. It's red and glistening in tears.
"You... you s-save me." Her weak voice travelled to my ears.
"I did nothing." I smiled awkwardly. It's true. I just shouted then if professor Smith didn't appear we're both lying in here now. She wiped her tears like a little kid.
So cute.
"But really, thank you." Then her smile showed. She's really beautiful. But before I forgot, she needs to eat. I grabbed the plastic bag and sat beside her.
"You should eat and drink the pain killer after. But I apologize because this is the only food I can afford." I pulled out the sandwiches and offered to her. She accepted and start unwrapping. It's the cheapest food in our canteen and least of students buy those because mostly are rich. This girl looks wealthy from head to toe. Maybe she came from an extremely rich family.
"It doesn't matter unless it's poisonous." She took a bite and the way she chewed makes me want to pinch her cute cheeks.
"Why would I do that?"
"Because I'm a werdo and a freak?--wow! This is really good."
"You know what, I'm confused why are they calling you that." Referring to her first sentence.
"Because I'm weird." She answered but before she could bite her sandwich again I spoke that made her paused.
"And you're letting them? Why? Do you have any good reason why you're letting them?" She straightened her upper body.
"Honestly, all I have were negatives."
"Tell me and I'll tell you what's my impression on you."
"Do you really wanted to know?" She mumbled while fidgeting the wrapper of the sandwich in her hands and her eyes were buried on them.
"Yeah." She raised her head and looked at me.
"Okay. Do I look normal? Yes. But I'm not. I'm an introvert person. I like being alone. I like to stay in the library just to avoid crowded places, play on my laptop or computer just to not be bothered by anyone because I don't like attentions. And being a freak..." She paused, I think she's having a mental discussion whether she'll continue or not. She heaved a deep breath before speaking.
"I'm... uh. I have something that the guys have." With that, my eyes went wide. I think I heard something that I shouldn't?
"Based on your reaction, you seems to figured it out already and be disgusted by me." She looks sad and disappointed. I shook my hands in front of her.
"No. No. It's not that! I'm just thinking that you don't have to tell me, it's your privacy." She chuckled bitterly and shook her head.
"Almost eighty percent of the students here knows that."
"What?! Wait. Can you confirm it yourself? I doubt my conclusion. I want to hear it from you." I said and studied her face. Is it true or she's just pranking me? I need her confirmation.
"I'm an intersexed." I stiffened. So, my thoughts were real?
"Wow." The only word that formed in my brain right now. This is the first time I met someone like that, or she's the bravest one to admit? But I heard that there's very few of them in this world so I guess, she's the only one I met.
"See, I can read it. It's written in your forehead 'she's a freak.'" She said gesturing an imaginary rectangle shaped that was placed in my forehead.
"You know what? You suck at reading me. No one can read what's on my mind."
"Okay, noted. Now, tell me your impression on me after knowing my supposedly secret." She smiled before eating the sandwich again.
"You still look normal to me. Not a freak or a weirdo. It's just you. A very precious rare gem, not everyone can appreciate but there's these wonderful people can."
"Like you?" I nodded and smiled back at her.
We talked alot. What course, hobbies, favorites, likes and all but lately realize that we didn't even know each other's name. We laughed like young kids not minding who can hear us. We didn't notice the time that it's already two in the afternoon. Our class ended so we headed to the exit. It's nice to know her and from now on she's a friend of mine.
"You told me that you have a shift in the convenience store at three. You still have an hour left. Let's eat first? My treat." She excitedly asked. I tried to refuse but she's persistent so I end up saying yes without any other choice. She called a cab and told the driver to bring us on the pizzerias. It's her and her sister's favorite that she wants me to have a taste of. I wanted to complain because I know how much a pizza there cost and it's almost half of my salary but I didn't say a word, it's only the nearest store we can eat at this very moment.
"Thank you, Leon. You're a good company." We're infront of the convenience store now.
"You're welcome. You made me happy, Jade. And for that, thank you." She beamed at me, her smile is way more beautiful. She should always wear those.
"I should go now. My Uncle told me to go home early." She said and open the door of the cab behind her.
"Leon." She stopped and glanced at me.
"If they still call you weirdo or freak or you're feeling down because of those, just send me a message or give me a call and I will remind you over and over again that you're something they don't get to see often. You're a limited edition, and we're lucky to have you." She smiled but I panicked when I see tears streaming down her cheeks. She run to me and gave me a hug.
"You made me feel special that no one ever did only my sister and now you. Thank you so much." I caresses her back 'til she stopped sobbing and we bid goodbyes.
"Who's the girl with you? She's cute but did someone mistakenly think that her face is a punching bag?" Chichi welcomed me when I came inside the store. She's my co-worker, a friend of mine but we're not really close outside the store. We only greet each other when we passed by. But here we didn't have a choice but to talk or we'll get bored.
"Hi to you too Chichi. She's Leon, and some assholes in our school beat her up."
"You should change into your uniform now or you want to be scolded by the old man again?" She smirked before punching the barcodes of the customer's items. I went to our back room to change into my uniform.
"What a lucky day!" I exclaimed when I noticed that I forgot to put it inside my bag this morning. I stormed out of the store, I heard Chichi's voice shouting but I didn't care. I need to run my life and be back before the clock strikes three thirty. It's a ten minute walk to my house, but I'm running so maybe less than ten now, I have only fifteen minutes to be back in time.
It's a worst day but not the time when I'm with Leon.
