Katherine's P.O.V.

We ordered smoothies when we arrived at Odette's. We chatted for a while, and after quite some time, Dash excused himself for fresh air, and Blake followed suit. Bella was looking at me in the eye, expecting for a question.
"Uh... Bella?" I asked. "Not to be nosy or anything, but, can I ask you something?"
"Sure. Go ahead."
"Back outside earlier, Dash seemed kind of off when I said that being a rescuer is my job. What is going with him?"
Bella's eyes widened. I cringed; I must have touched a sensitive topic. The older Glaceon turned to Diamond and Bambi.
"Dia, Bambi, why don't you go with Lonnie over there? Kate and I are going to discuss about... things."
Hearing this, the two kits soon ran up to Lonnie and began begging for a story. Well, she was a reading a book...
Bella breathed in before letting out a big sigh.
"We came from Greenhills, not far from here..."
She began. I sipped my smoothie nervously. Damn you Kate, why are you digging deeper into topics like this?!
"Before me and my sister, Emily, moved in, Dash was a former rescuer. He and his partner-may Arceus bless his soul, formed a powerful bond that tied them together, until..."
I stared at her, with a feeling of regret washing over me for bringing it up.
"-one day, they were on patrol. His sister-Sophie ran up to him. His brother, Chris had broken his leg. His partner told him to go, and he did.Took care of him until the medics arrived. But when he went back, there was an emergency, and his partner had gone out, alone. Dash rushed after him, only to find his partner... dead."
"I-I'm so sorry..."
"There had been a small family who was attacked by o-outlaws, and his partner defeated all of them, and it cost him his life. Dash searched through the bodies, and f-found an Umbreon and a Vaporeon. They were both dead, a-and clutching their lifeless bodies, were...us."
Her voice was seemingly tight, as if she was trying to hold back tears.
"Me and my sister never blamed him for that. Until that day, after we both evolved, we moved to the town of Greenhills. I met him again in the square. I recognized him instantly, and... it made me angry that he could be so happy. He offered to help us, and I treated him badly. Until..." Bella says, looking at me at the eye.
"Over time, you fell in love." I guessed. "He melted your frozen heart."
The Glaceon's sad face drained from her face, morphing into surprize.
"How did you know?!"
"Well, I took a look at the title, and made a hunch that it was you who had a 'frozen heart'. I connected the dots you made from your backstory, and there, I confirmed my deduction."
"You sound like a true detective." She said.
"I-I'm so sorry again for bringing it up." I apologized.
"It's okay. It wasn't your fault."
"You could say that, I guess..."
Bella laughed a little.
"Why don't we talk about other things instead?"
Blake's P.O.V.

I followed the Jolteon out from Odette's, silently walking towards him. He sighed and sat beside a tree, leaning against it.
"If you are gonna ask me something, you'd better drop the words into the dirt right now."
I flinched on the spot. Did he know I was following him?
Dash glared at me, and after a few seconds his gaze softened, and smiled sadly.
"You know, you do remind me of someone." He said.
"Who?"
"My partner..." Dash sighed.
"You're a rescuer?!"
"Was a rescuer."
"Oh. So... can you tell me what happened?" I asked.
"I don't want to talk about it." He replied. I walked up to the older Pokemon and sat beside him. We watched the falling leaves of autumn, and I could tell he was getting ready to tell me.
"Why are you so curious about me?"
"Nothing, you just seemed kinda off when Kate mentioned we we're rescuers..."
Dash sighed and stared into space.
-------
"And that's how it happened." He said.
I kinda felt sorry for the retired rescuer. The only awesome thing he told me was he being a gold-rank.
"Huh, so I guess we're the same." I said. Dash stared at me, confused.
"I lost a partner five years ago..." I started. "I searched for him everywhere, but, it seemed he just vanished from thin air. If only I could see him again..." I sighed.
I never told Kate about this. Neither did Lonnie.
"No it's not." Dash says, breaking into my thoughts. "We're not the same. My partner died and your partner still had a chance to be called alive somewhere."
"Maybe you're right." I sighed. "But it's nice we had something in common."
A smile returned to the Jolteon's face. I was glad I made him feel better.
