Chapter 4

"Ouch!" Eden squealed when she hit the ground hard. "Ow!" She sat up, holding her head. Somehow she had managed to roll off her bed, again! Maybe she should go to the Artistry to ask for bars for her bed.

She stood up and shook the dizziness away, fluttering her wing. There were sparkles of Fairy dust where she had fallen and she grumbled, she would have to sweep it off.

Fairies didn't always release Fairy dust from their wings whenever they moved or that would be a waste of the sparkly dust, not to mention the piles of it that would gather in houses.

So Fairy dust was only released when the Fairy wanted it to be, it could also sprinkle everywhere if they were feeling an intense kind of emotion.

Well almost cracking your head on the wooden floor counts as intense so there was a small pile of the gold dust on the ground beside her bed.

Her room was spacious, consisting of a bed, a cut wooden cupboard beside it. Two cupboards filled up the fat side of the wall, one carried all of her weird junk that she gathered gradually over the years, the other one was totally covered in vines which was another weird hobby of hers, while other Fairies filled their rooms with all sizes and colors of flowers, Eden had her vines.

The vines were everywhere, they trailed across the floor, wrapped around her wardrobe, her bed and ran across the green painted walls. She had started growing them as a child and now, it was like they had a life of their own.

Stretching, she yawned and stumbled over to the bathroom, a couple vines ran across it too but she adjusted it in a way that it didn't lock her out of it.

She reached forward to turn the knob then gasped, snatching it back, the vines on the doors had moved, like they wanted to help her open the door.

Narrowing her eyes, she stretched out her hand again and this time around she was ready for it. They moved again but their movements obviously lacked coordination and after a long time of straining and lots of hand waving, she managed to get them wrapped around the door knob.

Bending over to rest her hands on her knees, she panted as she tried to catch her breath.

"What is happening?" She whispered to herself, staring at her hands, she was still in a mild shock.

Sure there were Fairies whose Fairy dust could make plants grow faster but she'd never heard of anyone controlling plants, plus the plants still took time to grow just a little bit faster than normal.

Placing her hand on the knob, she quickly opened it and rushed inside. It was a Saturday so that meant she didn't have to go to the Outhouse, she was supposed to meet with Poppy in the afternoon beside the hunting grounds so she could continue her training but this couldn't wait she had to tell her best friend and now.

Her parents were out, her mom was a Florist and her dad a Builder. They didn't have to go to work either but they wanted to make some Fairy dust so they went to the Depot, Eden wasn't licensed to make Fairy dust yet but she could use the one her parents made, being a minor and all that.

Because Fairies had to be responsible with their dust, there were a lot of things that could go wrong if it were used nilly willy so until Fairies reached the age of eighteen, they weren't allowed to make Fairy dust. The ones produced unconsciously, did not count.

Quickly cleaning up, she dressed up and swept up her dust, storing it in a small pouch she slipped in her rucksack, today she was wearing pants and a loose tunic.

Grabbing a handful of berries which went in the ruck sack, she locked up the front door and went to the back to check on her plant.

"Hey Xavier!" She greeted the ancient plant that had taken over the entire expanse of the back wall of the back yard, it did help to give them privacy though.

Some of his vines waved towards her and she grinned wider, impatient to tell Poppy about her newest discovery. If she could control plants, she could defeat the Elves, it was a simple solution.

Closing the flower covered front gate, she took off, flying the fastest she'd ever gone in the direction of Poppy's house.

"Good morning, Mrs Payne." She greeted, coming in the front door.

Poppy's house was like her second home so the blue headed Fairy just waved the energetic child in and continued peering at a tiny plant with hand held lenses.

"Poppy!" She screamed, rushing upstairs to her friends room, who was no doubt still sleeping.

"Poppy!!" She shouted louder, "Get your lazy ass sef off that bed right now." She slammed open the door of her room which was done in pastel blue and pink, with a ridiculous amount of colorful flowers, everywhere!

"Poppy!!!" She shouted this time, directly beside Poppy's ear and the poor Fairy got startled and rolled off her bed, laning hard on the wooden ground.

"Owie!" She wailed. "Eden!"

"I'm so sorry." She apologized quickly, already pulling Poppy off the ground without giving her time to recover for her rather hard fall. "Come on you need to get cleaned up, there's something really important that I have to show you." She insisted, practically dragging her friend in the direction of her bathroom.

Poppy dug her feet in the ground to stop the forced motion. "That's what you said yesterday." She accused Eden, giving her a look. "Yet all I did was see you struggled to run for four whole hours."

Eden didn't let up either and being stronger than Poppy was able to pull her to the front of the pastel blue door that led to her bathroom. "I promise you that this time it's really important." She half begged.

Poppy gave her a look that said, I don't fully trust you but because we've been best friends forever, I'll do it. "Fine, give me a couple minutes."

Eden paced around the quaint sized room while Poppy cleaned herself up, she wondered if it would work on flowers too and decided that it wouldn't hurt to try.

She moved to the flower sitting in a vase on the drawer beside Poppy's bed and leaned down, concentrating hard, she tried to move it.

It bent in a ninety degree angle sharply and ejected it's petals which flew across the room and embedded itself in the stuffed bear that was sitting on a cupboard.

"Wow!" Eden whispered, flying over to get a good look at it, she could not only control plants apparently but she could also manipulate them.

The previously pillow soft petals were now as hard as a branch and as deadly as a sharp one too, it penetrated the stuffed bear and Eden hoped Poppy didn't murder her and hide her body for this.

"So what is this that you're on about." Poppy asked, coming out of the bathroom in her underwear. "It better be good." She mumbled unhappily, slipping on a peach colored dress. If there was something Poppy liked, it was her sleep.

Eden was tempted to show Poppy there but she wanted to keep it a secret, knowing West Village and how ridiculously docile they could be, they would prevent her from trying to use it to fight.

"It is, I promise you." She nodded, already going towards the door.

"Where are you going? I haven't brushed my hair or put anything on my face. What? Do you think this sort of ethereal comes easy?" She waved a hand in front of her face and Eden's questioning expression.

"Fine, brush your hair and we go or I'll drag you screaming with your hair all tangled." She threatened lightly.

"Fine." Poppy eyerolled, dragging a brush through her short curls. She also patted on some powder and put gloss on her lips.

Eden was impatient but she waited, dragging Poppy out immediately she saw that she was done.

"Keep that up and I'll shower you with Fairy dust." Poppy said drily as they flew off in the direction of their secret place, it was just a small enclosed space beside the Hunting Grounds that no one ever went to. "Trust me when I say you do not want to get fairy dust in your hair."

Eden was too preoccupied in her thoughts to hold conversations on the way there and Poppy caught on to her friend's mood and stayed quiet.

When they got there, they landed on the ground and faced each other.

"You won't believe, the craziest thing happened to me this morning." Eden started to say, sitting on the soft grass.

"Let me guess." Poppy said softly. "You found out that you can control plants.

Eden shot up quickly, beyond stunned. "W-What? H-How do you know."

Poppy walked a little bit away from her and brought out a sunflower seed, she dropped it on the ground and stretched out a hand. "I know because I can do this."

Eden froze in shock, her mouth wide open as the sunflower seed sprouted just like that with no water or earth, growing into the biggest sunflower she had ever seen. It was almost as big as a tree.

"You what?"
