CHAPTER THREE
Sophia could hear her phone ringing, she groaned out and chewed her mouth slowly.
"It's Monday morning....who is calling me" Sophia said half asleep.
"ITS MONDAY!!!" Sophia jumped out of her bed. She looked at her alarm clock "oh my God it's 8:00 already????" She ran to the shower. "You were supposed to beep at 7:00 not 8:00....ugh"
She ran out of the shower "why did I sleep for so long" she groaned out.
She got down her apartment and could see her car "I can't take you out today baby. I'm starting my new work today and I don't want them looking at me like some crazy dude who got a Maserati and works at Wendy's"
Sophia dropped her car keys in her bag and took a taxi down to work. She rushed into Wendy's and could see a middle aged woman looking at her as she rushed in.
"Miss Hernandez?" She said looking at Sophia who was half panting.
"Yes that's me," Sophia replied.
"You are late and this is your first day at work? That is not a good start miss" The woman added.
"Can I talk to the manager please? I owe you no explanation ma'am" Sophia replied. She looked around and could see a waitress passing by. "Hey, excuse me...where is the manager please?" Sophia asked
The waitress looked at her confused, she point at the woman beside Sophia. "Huh! Her?" Sophia replied whispering to the waitress
"Yeah" the waitress said as she walked away. Sophia looked at the woman beside her, she grinned widely at her.
"Hello again ma'am, I think I owe you lot of explanation" Sophia said
The manager sighed "start your work tomorrow but for now just watch how it is done" she said as she turned her back to leave "but....."
Sophia who was happy quickly look at her.
"But...if you are a minute late miss. You know what will happen next right?" The woman added.
"Yes" Sophia replied in a low voice.
A week passed. Sophia was on her free day, she was making cereal in the kitchen when her phone rang. "Ava"
"I feel like we haven't talk in a month, your new job must be that stressful" Ava said. Sophia stood by her kitchen staring at her cereal "yes honey and I'm so sorry...it has just been so..." Sophia breathe in and out deeply.
"It's alright Soph. Let's go out today, what do you think? Are you free?" Ava asked.
"Yeah I am, today and tomorrow are my free day" Sophia replied. "Okay get dressed and meet me at our regular spot" Ava had said.
Sophia opened her closet "I feel i need More clothes but unfortunately I am so broke" she said sadly. She brought out a blue pants and a tank top "this should do it". She looked up at her cereal.
"I shouldn't be wasting food this way though...ughhh" she groaned as she left her apartment. Sophia got out and could see some group of teenagers taking pictures with her car.
"No..no guys, she isn't for that" Sophia said frustratedly. They all ran after seeing Sophia coming out
"I am so sorry baby" Sophia said looking at her car. She got to the lasagna restaurant and could see Ava waving at her.
"You look so pale Sophia, what has been going through that lil mind of yours?" Ava asked worriedly.
"Work" Sophia replied sitting down "I'm so hungry" Sophia added. After a while their lasagna was brought to them.
"So have you talked to mom and Dad yet?" Ava asked taking a spoonful of lasagna
"Uhnn? No why should I? They did this to me..." Sophia replied rolling her eyes. Suddenly they heard loud noise coming behind them, Sophia looked back and could see the female manager of the restaurant yelling at a waitress.
"You are so fired, get out of my restaurant" the manager said out loud. The waitress rolled her eyes,
"Think I care? I'm also done with your aggressive behavior towards everyone here...I will rather starve than work here" she said angrily.
Sophia smiled "Yes!!! Tell her"
The female manager mover near the waitress and slapped her hard on the face, Everyone in the restaurant gasped. Sophia stood up angrily
"Sophia....stay out of it please" Ava said looking up at Sophia who left her table.
"Why on earth will you hit someone like that?" The female manager looked back and could see Sophia walking towards her.
"How is that your business" the manager replied angrily
Ava grabbed her head as she walked up to Sophia. Sophia moves near the manager "I don't care who you are or where you are from but hitting someone like that is a very bad act and a disgusting move" Sophia said
The female waitress dropped her ID card "I am out of here" she said leaving the restaurant.
"Don't ever think everyone working here are all pathetic, you might be a manager and be more pathetic....." Sophia moved closer to the manager "you suck!!!" She added.
Sophia looked at Ava beside her "give her the money for the lasagna we bought and let's get out of here for GOOD"
Ava looked at the manager and sighed "you have got the best lasagna but now i don't know anymore" she dropped the money and left the restaurant with Sophia.
Sophia sighed "why won't people be nice to each other? You been in a higher position doesn't mean you should be rude to others" she said as she saw the female waitress coming towards her.
"Hey....ermm! Thank you for supporting me there" she said.
Sophia smiled "I just don't like people cheating others"
"Yes I agree with Soph. You deserve better" Ava added. Sophia reaches out for a card in her bag "here, have this"
"What is it?the female waitress asked
"It's a business card, just call the number on it and tell him you want to apply for a position...you know what to do" Sophia replied
The female waitress sighed "but I stopped going to school after my high school, how will I get in Hernandez company?" She asked. Ava looked at Sophia who smiled "just call the number alright?" Sophia replied
Sophia and Ava got home later that day. Sophia dialed her Dad number immediately
"Hey Dad. Please I need your help" Sophia said
"No, not money....I ermm don't need that. It's about a girl I gave your business card to...please dad I need you to give her a job Daddy. She really need it more than anything, any position Daddy"
Mr Hernandez sighed and didn't reply for some while. "Okay" he replied through the phone
"Thank you Daddy...I love you...her name is Chloe" Sophia replied happily. She ended the call smiling.
"You know Soph. Why didn't you apply to your Dad company? Why work at Wendy's? What if the same thing that happened to Chloe happen to you?" Ava asked. Sophia took off her top
"I will so beat her up...no one can hit me like that" Sophia replied
"Why not work at Dads'?"
"I want to work hard for my own money, if I work there with dad, I am sure I won't be as serious and I would have been the Assistant manager to Dad....everyone will be calling me boss"
"Nah..., I am tired of been called that. I want to work and I mean WORK. I am pretty sure when I get married to Liam I will start working in some I don't know big company" Sophia replied
"You are one rare girl" Ava said smiling.
"Oh yeah...I am going to see a friend down the street...wanna come?" Ava hurried up.
"I just pulled off my top...ughh okay".
They got out and could see Ava friend coming towards them. They all walked down the street while Ava and her friend started talking leaving Sophia out of the conversation.
"Why did I follow her when they won't even talk to me" Sophia folded her arms. She looked at Ava who was laughing out hard with her friend. "I'm happy she is happy though. I hope she get to be serious with this one" she added.
She saw a very big library not far to her "ermm hey Ava.... I will check in there for a while" Sophia said walking towards the library.
"Thank you" Ava whispered to Sophia who looked back at her "Have fun" Sophia said as she entered the library.
She looked through the books in the shelves quietly "hmm nice" she said as she looked closer to a Non fiction book "hmm cool" she added.
"Space hmmm.... I should read about that" Sophia said as she picked the book out and opened it
"Wait a minute, did I just see a man standing behind the shelve?" Sophia thought.
She looked up through the shelve slowly. The book in her hand dropped
"Oh my God!!!"
