Dylan finally stopped explaining, leaving Max to digest all the information gained while also answering any of his questions.
"I am a werewolf…" Max spoke softly after a while and everyone was able to hear it.
Max didn't feel affected by this new world he was introduced though, this in fact cleared a lot of questions he had gathered all this time, for all the strange things that occurred, the strange things he couldn't understand so far.
"You said that I will become stronger, more agile and my senses will be sharper than ever before, right? When is that going to happen, I don't feel any change for now" Max asked after examining his body a little, not feeling anything out of place.
"Your body will become change rapidly in the course of about a week. Time will vary depending on the individual." Dylan responded while looking at Max.
"How much time have I been asleep for?" He asked while getting off his bed, stretching his stiff body.
"It has been about a week and a half, you got four more days before theoretical classes begin once again." Dylan helped Max out of the bed. It wasn't because he thought that Max couldn't get off on his own but his physique still improved and who knew what he might accidentally break while doing even the slightest of movements.
"I recommend you to not leave the room until you manage to control your body. Trust me when I say this, you will think you have it under control but you won't. Every night your body enhances until it's fully satiated. This process doesn't in fact stop but its effects become less apparent every night that passes, the first nights will also be the worst nights you can experience."
"We draw power from the moon, right?" Max asked while recalling what Dylan said. The latter told him that each species draw power from certain but specific things while also weakened by other things. This made a war between the species possible, using each other's weaknesses to their maximum potential.
"Yes, our bodies automatically absorb the moonlight present during the night. This is how the different ranks are formed as the different amounts of moonlight we have gathered so far change our bodies constantly…" Dylan once again began explaining the evolution process thoughtfully.
"I managed to understand most of it" Max admitted as he walked around his room. His body felt lighter while his vision keener, making him certain that what Dylan told him so far was the truth.
This also meant that the other things that Dylan told him were true though, such as him being an underling of his and that he still had to be accepted by the leader of the pack in order to escape the clutches of death, because as Dylan put it:
"If he doesn't agree with you being one of us then I won't be able to stop him from killing you, he is just too powerful for me"
It felt tragic, Max experienced death once after all and as he thought of going back to that place and stay in it for eternity, he felt like throwing up.
"When will I have to meet with the leader?" Max asked as he looked at Dylan in a worried manner.
"Soon enough, I was told to bring you as soon as you are awake but I can't do that, we will hide you being awake until Sunday. By then I'll come and get you; and also, do not resist it at that time alright? It will just turn out for the worst" Dylan advised Max for the last time, getting up and heading for the door to leave the room.
"I'll also be heading out; I am glad you are well now. I just hope to call you a pack member by next week." Bryce also headed for the door as he saw Dylan leave, he didn't feel like there was anything to tell him. He was already told what to do and was given the minimum knowledge he needed to know for now.
"Prove yourself to be of worth newborn. You have a lot to pay, bringing a lot of headaches to your seniors is bad after all." Though, to Max's surprise, Ernie didn't leave the room while also not showing any signs of leaving soon.
"Don't look so surprised, I am not doing this because of my own accord. All three of us have to keep watch on you at all times and we thought of sharing this responsibility equally, one day for each person. Today is my day to keep watch and now that I see you moving around, I want to choke you even more than before" Ernie felt dissatisfied but Max felt that it wasn't thrown towards him, it was thrown towards the situation he was in currently.
"I am also here to answer any questions that might appear in your mind during the time. I might be less knowledgeable when it comes to those two but I think I can handle any questions a newbie might have."
"T-thanks…" Max said awkwardly. 'Why of all people him?' He thought as he remembered the past experiences with this guy.
Ernie opened the window before sitting on a chair next to it, closing his eyes while feeling the breeze sweep on his face. His hair fluttered as the cold air swept inside Max's room in a moment, refreshing the smell inside the room.
Soon after Ernie closed his eyes visible light green particles began glowing around his body, moving in a spiral towards him.
"When night comes around, you'll have to meditate in order to absorb more moonlight than your body usually does passively. Think of your path now being split into two, wouldn't it be easier to take just one and become the strongest you can on one of them? The answer is yes but that also means lacking half of your potential. I suggest you continue training as a magician while also evolving as a werewolf." Ernie said as he continued absorbing the magic particles around his body, the process continuing even when talking.
'So this is the power of a Mid-Tier?' Max thought as he looked at the other, seemingly impressed.
"I will have to experience it all on my own to be able to judge what is best for me. Your guidance surely helps but it won't shape the best path for me" Max shared his thoughts with Ernie who he felt he can trust for now.
"It's just like at the academy, teachers are just here to give us insight on the matter, they aren't here to guide us through life." Ernie then responded to Max, not showing interest in his words while seemingly concentrated on other matters.
Max and Ernie did small talk with each other, the talks being mostly initiated by Max asking things about being a werewolf. And so, the night quickly arrived and as the shadows poured inside Max's room he began meditating as well, only being able to do so for an hour before Ernie interrupted him.
"Get up now, we are starting your training" Ernie kicked Max and the latter was shot away into the wall with a loud thump.
"I heard you, only if you waited for one more second before shoving that foot of yours into my face" Max complained before getting up. He was interested more in what Ernie was about to do and not in what he did.
"I get my payback slow but steady" Ernie replied before walking towards the window which was still open, showcasing the crescent moon that hung in the middle of the sky.
